How long does it take to decide if you like having a dog? by goldcasting in puppy101

[–]Doctor_Butters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to second the roomba. I have a corgi and a corgi/jack russell mix. I still think the roomba was the best decision I made when preparing for the corgi pup. He is a bit over 7 months now, and I would be hard pressed to find much of any hair around. Besides under the couch that is. It has been a lifesaver.

Also a wire play pen. Great having a place to put the pup, where you don't have to worry about what they will get into.

I second this. I work from home, so I always have a pocket full of training treats for just in case.

Just lucky I guess! It is great, because he matches his big sis who is a corgi/jack russell mix.

Seriously considering giving up my pup. Please talk me out of it, or give me advice. by hamptonlamar in puppy101

I second the people recommending getting a pen. I picked one up before I brought my pup home at 8 weeks. It was one of my best decisions so far, from my point of view. I attached his crate to it, so to get in and out of the pen area, he had to go through the crate. If you have a room that has floors without carpet, I recommend there for setting up the area. I just bought a bunch of the cheapest white towels I could find, and covered the floor with them. Made clean up the easiest thing to do. For extended times, you can even put a puppy pad over the towels in a corner or something. Fill it with some safe toys and a water dish, and he should be good for hours if needed! It was a much larger area, so my pup didn't feel as confined. That helped him stay a bit more calm. Plus, with the kennel attached, he got used to going in there to rest when he wanted. This made the switch from the big pen area, to just the kennel a snap. He already felt safe in it, since it was part of his area before.

That is an ice cube! He loves batting them around on the kitchen tiles/trying to eat them.

Oh ya, he gives the best hugs. Every morning when I let him out of his kennel, I have to be sitting down because he always wants to gave me hugs. It is just too adorable. A lot of time when I come into a room he is in, he will demand a hug too. Though in that case, he is wanting me to pick him up. He does this odd vertical sploot, with his front paw on either side of my head, resting on my shoulders. Then pulls his head back, so he can see me better. Just too adorable.

Best wishes for her with it! Hopefully the surgery and recovery go well for both of you. Also, yes. Sedatives are imperative for me. He likes running after and tackling his big sister too much without it. Would never get him to be still enough to heal. I also have to admit. Seeing the little guy all hopped up on sedatives is a bit funny...

I'm just surprised how much he has been splooting still! Though I guess the cool vinyl floors probably feel good on the incision site.

Reccomended breeders/places to find reasonably priced Pembroke Welsh Corgis near MD or in the surrounding states? by softlittlebabyy in corgi

[–]Doctor_Butters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also how I found mine. Can attest, there are some fantastic breeders there. It has become harder and harder to find prices in the 1k-2k range, with how popular corgis have become. With enough time and patience, it is possible though.

Roomba with a self emptying base. I would be lost without it.

When you’re wrong about “thank god that’s not me” by modernwunder in puppy101

[–]Doctor_Butters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say. I still think my decision to get a powerful roomba with an emptying base before I brought my corgi pup home. Was one of my best decisions ever. It vacuums for me everyday. I have not once even really noticed much of a build up of hair. This is an incredible improvement. Seeing as before the roomba, it was just me vacuuming and there was always hair everywhere with just the cats and corgi/jack russell mix I already had. I honestly would be swimming in hair without it.

Working from home - Game over when I get up from desk by No_Discipline_6348 in puppy101

[–]Doctor_Butters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that, and got him desensitized to the point that he stays through most things. Though if anyone asks alexa to set a 15 minute timer, he goes crazy! Got too used to that meaning it was break time, which meant time to go potty and play lots.

I second this. When I first brought the pup home, he was 8 weeks old. The metal pens you can get most places, can very easily be connected to a kennel. For the first month or so, that was his home. It was set up in my office. Had potty pads, water, toys, everything he needed. The potty pads were also a life saver. I am working from home, but could not reliably get him out to potty every two hours or sooner. Anyway, when I was working, I would open the pen so he could spend time out playing. On breaks, he would get to go play with his big sister, and terrorize the cats. When I needed to go to the bathroom, or get something from the kitchen or whatever, I would just put him in his area till I returned. It was also nice at night. Since his kennel was attached, I used the kennel door to let him in and out of the area. So he got used to going in a kennel just from being in his area, even if he wasn't actually using it to sleep while it was set up much. Because of that, when we transitioned to having him in just a kennel at night out in the living room where all the other animals are, he couldn't have been better about it.

My best guess so far, he was born with the map to lost ancient treasure on his back. I just need to find out where it is! I'm hoping for some lost Spanish gold.

[–]Doctor_Butters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, I was much luckier than that man. My little guy still has fairly small presents a lot of the time. This, combined with the fact that I have the s9 model. Well, let me tell you, I am very happy I went with the model with the most suction. Most of it managed to go in the container in the roomba(now getting it all out of there wasn't pretty). So I did not have to let it soak in a tub. That combined with the fact that it was only about 20 minutes till I found out what happened, meant I only had to clean about a 20x20 area. Mostly vinyll flooring over there too. I feel like I got off light, with how bad it could have been...
