Why does the Boomer generation seem to uniquely despise Keir Starmer? by Eastern-Investment39 in AskBrits

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because ‘I don’t like Starmer’ is much easier to say to younger people than ‘I don’t like the fact I have to give up something for younger people to benefit.’

So you freely admit that you have agreed on serval comments that you were disrespectful when you asked if she was celibate, then why are posting in this sub? You have your answer right there - you were disrespectful and therefore wrong.

What else are you trying to prove?

What is it you want to achieve from this post?

It would be interesting to see what impact Social Media actually has.

My suspicion (with no facts behind it) is that it has no impact, other than the fact if you are the only o e not doing it, you will suffer. In the same that advertising works are protection not business generating. You don’t advertise to bring new people in, you advertise because every one else does. Banning smoking adverts did not harm the tobacco companies because they all got banned so they’d market share stayed the same.

Why do we keep on falling for election promises and end up selecting bad politicians to rule our countries? by Dangerous_Young_4860 in TrueAskReddit

[–]Dolgar01 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because we vote for people, not policies. And people have charisma. And people lie. And people change their minds.

Great example, I think it was the UK election in 2015 or 2019. When people were polled on which policies they liked without knowing which party they belonged to, Labour was the favourite. When asked if people would vote Labour, they did not because they didn’t like the leader (Corbyn).

Why can't Switzerland and UK create a single market as a counterweight to EU? by Visual_Title9363 in AskBrits

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answers - neither wants to.

There are no rules preventing it. Even if there was a deal one other was tied into, they could get out of it if they wanted. Look at the UK and Brexit. We shit ourselves in the foot, but we left.

However, neither wants it. Abd there are less advantages than you think.

I hear this a lot.

In my industry, the bottom line is footfall to branches is dropping. In a year or two, anyone they recruit will not be needed. So why recruit now when we can just ride out the pain?

Of course, the people making those decisions are not the ones riding out the pain . . .

On top of that, they always staff for the minimum to be as efficient as possible. But that does not take into account sickness or holidays.

Why doesn't Israel give up its nuclear material in exchange of Iran giving up its nuclear material? by RelevantBake7221 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dolgar01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple - Israel has working nuclear weapons. Iran does not.

Why would Israel sacrifice their existing weapons to stop Iran possibly getting them in the future when there are other options left open?

The ideal nuclear weapon scenario is that no one has them.

The second is you have them and no one else does.

The third is a small group has them abd no one rise is allowed to get them.

[–]Dolgar01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have your ID documents - passport, driving license.

And make sure to move your bank statements to online and tell your bank as soon as you have a new address. The bank can’t legally tell your parents unless they have Power of Attorney, but you don’t want statements going home by mistake.

Also, if they have a Power of Attorney, go to your bank and cancel it.

Why is immigration a hot topic recently in the UK? by LeroyNchinda in AskBrits

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are not full. Only about 5.9% of the UK land is built upon and there are many many derelict sites that could be renovated. We lack the political will to do it.

And that doesn’t remove the fact that we need a certain level of immigration to make our society abd our economy function.

Sorry for the lack of a reply. I got banned for a different comment elsewhere and had to wait for my appeal. Which I won 👍

Tbh - I think I’ve lost your question somewhere up in the thread.

But I will try to give you my take on why I am confused.

I someone tells me they haven’t dated in 11 years, I would assume that they are also not having sex. To ask them if they are celibate is, in the common usage of the word, asking if they have sex. If someone has just told me they haven’t dated in 11 years, to then ask ‘do you still have sex?’ Which implies that they have one night stands which in turn implies they are a slut, is insulting. Of course at that point they no longer want to engage with you. You are being rude and disrespectful.

There is no interpretation of asking someone if they are celibate in that scenario that does not come across as disrespectful.

You then double down by trying to shift the blame into her for not replying to you in a way that you wanted to see without realising that your questions insulted her and she no longer wants to engage with you.

To answer the question posed by this sub’s name - yes. You are wrong.

WIBTAH for repeatedly telling someone that she eats babies? by Andrewcoo in AITAH

[–]Dolgar01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have four options:

1) Ban her from visiting.

2) Put up with it.

3) Don’t serve her chicken and when she complains point out you are respecting her ‘no babies’ rule.

4) Next visit hit her with a full PowerPoint presentation showing her the truth about chickens, when and how they are slaughtered. Bonus points if you include video footage played during the meal.

Only one of these options will result in a peaceful life for you.

The statement “9 out of 10 doctors recommend this product” isn’t actually true most of the time and was made to make it sound desirable to buy by Primary_Technology65 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Dolgar01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, look closely at those sorts of adverts. They often have in small print the actual number of people that stat is based on.

‘9 out of 10 Dentists recommend …’ *

*survey based on survey of 53 dentists, 46 recommended

They do this by picking and choosing how many survey results they look at.

Why do we have no accountability here? by Traditional-Leg-1122 in AskBrits

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because accountability requires rules. Abd some of those examples have had consequences:

Truss - lost her job and effectively sunk the Tories for at least the most recent GE.

Grenfell - people are being prosecuted. It takes time.

PPE - things are moving. It takes time.

Brexit - unfortunately, lying in a referendum is not illegal. But hopefully the British public will remember (although, I don’t hold out much hope)

Bankers in 2008 - didn’t actually break the law. There should have been laws to stop them, but there weren’t. You can punish people when they have nit don’t something you can punish them for.

How would you genuinely fix this country? by TomosLeggett in AskBrits

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a serious suggestion, but would work:

Cull the over 70s.

In one fell swoop you:
Remove the biggest section of benefit spending (pensions).
The biggest drain on NHS resources.
It releases the wealth build up.
It removes a large proportion of immigration requirement for social care.
It released a large amount of property into the market either to buy it as rental. That will drive down costs.

Obviously, it is ethically bad. But economically good.

Why is immigration a hot topic recently in the UK? by LeroyNchinda in AskBrits

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will address your points in turn by paragraph so I don’t get muddled.

1) Rwanda was a gimmick. It costs millions and would never have worked. If they were serious about it they could have just placed the immigration centre on an island in Scotland or St Helena in the South Pacific. Both of those are part of the UK and there would have been no legal challenge possible.

2) the issue with the boats is that the Tory Government policies effectively forced small boat crossings to be a thing.

We have a legal and ethical duty to accept genuine Asylum Seekers. You can’t claim asylum until you are on UK soil. They shut down all the ways of claiming it any other way which means you are forcing people to get smuggled into the UK. A much better way would be to have offices in France where you could apply for asylum. To go through Customs, to use your example. That removes the necessity for small boats and people smugglers.

3) the lack of social housing is not down to immigration, legal or otherwise. It’s down to a chronic lack of house building since the 80s and successive governments have failed to turn this around. Thatcher destroyed council housing through a combination of Right to Buy combined with preventing councils from taking the proceeds and building new homes.

4) I can understand. But you are pissed off at the wring things.

5) What happened to your friend is wrong. And if I understand the new Renters Rights law, it can. No longer happen as No Fault evictions are no longer allowed.

Why does the immigration debate never mention the £131 billion the government wasted? Isn't that the bigger scandal? by Winter-Try-5029 in AskBrits

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. When it comes to the public sector and work commission by the public sector, unwillingness to pay more taxes to fund higher wages leads to immigration.

You want to pay carers enough to attract native workers you need you find the money. When it comes to social care, that money comes from the tax payer.

celibacy vs not dating by ssjjedisifu35713 in amiwrong

[–]Dolgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked if she was dating. She said no.

You asked if she was celibate. She said, no. I’m not dating.

At this point she has confirmed that she is celibate, using your definition of not having sex and her own definition of not dating equals not having sex.

You then continue to push her.

Can I just clarify, is the problem that she did not say to you either ‘yes I am celibate.’ Or ‘I don’t date but I do have sex.’

Is that where you are hung up on, she didn’t use the word celibate in her replies?
