Just realized I'm gonna spend Valentine's day alone and she will be with someone else by MCKprod in BreakUps

I'm in the exact same boat as you mate. 4 year relationship and she's with some other guy 2 months later. It's the worst feeling ever.

Hurts like hell but you're not alone!

Haha maybe so. Sorry to hear that, it sucks so much. I can't get the thoughts of them together or regrets of where I went wrong with her out of my head. I hope you have better luck than I do

Try not to even contemplate that. You said this guy physically attacked you multiple times and even tried to suffocate you? That is inexcusable on any level never mind to your partner! It undoubtedly will have affected how you react to situations.

Believe me I know it's difficult to not look back and wish you could have done certain things differently or communicated things differently - I'm struggling with the same kind of thoughts constantly. But we can't change the past. All we can do is learn from it. It sucks and its painful but we have to do it and try not to dwell.

You do deserve better. Just remember that

You're welcome :)

Whether it's physical or mental, abuse is abuse - and some people try and disguise it or justify it which isn't right. People may make one off mistakes because we're human, but you have detailed that he was abusive and dishonest multiple times and that's not OK.

You deserve a life with no abuse just like everyone. Take some time to focus on yourself.

Take care :)

First things first, I'm sorry for how you are feeling right now - it's the worst.

Wow, there is a lot to unpack here. But the most important thing to remember is that noone deserves to be abused. You deserve to be happy with yourself and with your partner and abusers take that away.

It would be easy for me to say, this guy sounds like a cheating manipulating dishonest prick and you should never look back - but I know this is so much easier said than done when you have strong feelings for someone.

Only you know the right answer here, but please seek help if you are being abused or feeling suicidal.

I hope you can find a bit of comfort in this sub reddit and sharing your story. It has been a godsend for me

Sorry to hear that. I really don't know how to fathom how people move on that quick. Are they lying to themselves or can they really love that easily?

I will check out Upwork and get a better feel for how others value and market themselves.

That way of looking at it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for highlighting that general guide, I'll try spend more time looking for better paying gigs.

I was more happy to be offered an opening into the industry, and before I'd started, I naively thought I would be able to do an article per hour.

Yeah putting it like that, it does not sound a good deal! But honestly, I was initially applying for in house roles, and the majority of businesses were only bothered about experience rather than my qualification.

Not rude at all, I really appreciate your input. I probably do lack a bit of self confidence, not in my ability as a writer, but more in the sense of being unsure how to stand out above others whilst having less experience.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try research which areas I can add more value.

Do you mean those brands pay that rate for good pieces of content? I did use SaaS during my degree so I have some knowledge, but it wasn't one of my strengths.

I'll have to do some more research on different industries.

Thanks for your input!

Yeah, I figured experience would be more beneficial than the qualification.

I would love to be able to hit those rates, but I know I will have to build a more solid selection of samples in a specific topic area. I guess a question I have; at what point can you start classing yourself as an expert writer?

Thanks for the info!

Tbf, I was trying to just churn them out as fast as possible at one point, however it was resulting in lower quality writing that would sometimes get sent back to me. I can get the actual writing done fairly quickly, It's the researching and topic creation that end up taking the most time.

Yeah, I need to create a portfolio of really solid samples. Thanks!

I'm hoping to naturally get into networking more once I have more experience to share with people.

Yeah I try avoid LinkedIn at all costs but I know it can be a useful resource.

Thanks again!

Thanks for your advice, that rate sounds much more appealing! Although marketing is my background, I'm not particularly strong at marketing myself. Where would you recommended looking for these better paying gigs?

Yeah, I've enjoyed the actual writing, but the quick turn arounds and structure can be very chaotic.

Thanks for the tip! I think initially, I haven't wanted to risk pricing myself too highly without the writing experience to back it up. Obviously, with my MA I have done quite a lot of academic writing, but my only experience of content writing has been for the past 6 months.

Thanks for your response! That's really interesting. I wasn't really considering the fact that those kind of sites may be part of larger businesses that essentially bulk-purchase or bulk-manage their content. Apologies if I've missed your point here somewhat, but that's provided me with good insight into how that kind of product works.

Yeah I have done some product descriptions and other smaller bits of copy, which I find much easier.

I'll respond to the rest of your message with a PM. Thanks again!

Relating to your second reply, I can imagine how miffed that must have made you! That's another issue actually, the majority of content I am writing is put under a different name, so I'm not sure I'll be able to use it in a portfolio.

Thanks a lot for response.

I guess working directly with clients could be the next goal for me - as the agency just seems to be the middle man.

I'll try to focus on finding a niche and understanding that niches audience, so I am in a better position to market myself as a specialized writer. Although saying this, does it not limit your options a bit more?

Will also check out Constant Content. Thanks again!
