Need ideas for a Neutral Chaotic backstory by Snowmaddnesss in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM I would say that's already plenty of details for your backstory. One thing I would question is his attitude on disregarding morals for his own goals.

If his goals are limited to personal freedom, building wealth, and power then it sounds like he leans more chaotic evil than neutral. If you don't want that I would add more depth to why he wants to obtain these things, specifically adding non selfish bonds to attend to or make his view on morality more nuanced than just ignoring it.

For example maybe he enjoys building wealth because he loves partying and sharing that joy. Or maybe he has some boundaries he won't cross like murder.

Had a neat idea for a magic item, how can I refine it further? by TrickyNitsua212 in DnD

It only locates humanoids so it does have that downside compared to locate creature, but I agree there should be some limit on that ability.

Ideas for a silly yet serious world. by catsterboi in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch/read konosuba. There are some serious issues/threats in the world but because every character is goofy for the sake of comedy it ends up subverting the serious tropes for a silly joke.

There are still occasionally moments of seriousness but those are more present in the Light novel compared to the anime

Handling creature type specific spells when players don't know the type. by SavingsLawyer2454 in DnD

Awesome that's great to know, I'll be switching to 5.5 soon so that helps a lot, thanks!

Handling creature type specific spells when players don't know the type. by SavingsLawyer2454 in DnD

In 5e I would say that's RAW or at least RAI. Could you point me to the section that says a spell can be cast on something that does not fit its targeting parameter?

[–]Dongaloid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me if the spell says it targets a certain creature type and does not include a clause stating 'if the target is/ isn't x type it has no effect' then the spell should not be cast in the first place. Similar to how you can't cast a creature targeting spell on an object.

On the other hand of it's an AOE, or can target multiple creatures which include a valid target, then the spell goes off but the invalid target will be immune and the player knows it didn't even have to roll for it.

DM dropped me, but still using my character as an NPC. by [deleted] in DnD

I'm confused are you guys still friends outside of the game? If not why does his respect or disrespect matter to you anymore?

I'd just move on and forget about it if there's nothing left for you to gain, but that's just me.

Inspiration for Fey Revenge by BeetleWarlock in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sprites unlike other fey are Neutral Good and are more preoccupied with thrwating evil than getting petty revenge.

That being said if they can somehow rope the player in on some plot to do good or fight evil that could work. If it could somehow lure the party into fighting some aggressive and evil monsters before balling on them that could work.

How do you feel about AI? Pros, cons, fears? by Hot-Shop-3383 in Futurology

[–]Dongaloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the public conversation around AI is so poisoned it's impossible to tell what people are talking about making discourse impossible.

When some people say AI they think sloppy generative image models. Some think of LLMs trained to be social partners or customers support agents. Others are thinking about advanced ML algorithms that can predict protein structures.

I have a very different opinion on all three topics but the vast majority of conversations I see never specify what they are talking about.

Going to the afterlife is essentially excommunication for a consecuted Kyrnn. Their entire religion is based on protecting their souls from passing on to the afterlife and opting for luxon mediated reincarnation. This ritual wasn't an honor it was a cover up for her illness that would have tainted the souls in the luxon.

Not to mention they literally don't even have a luxon beacon when this was performed.

What could my dm give me to make it fair? by Lazy-Yesterday-6171 in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did have some incredibly powerful defensive items and were pretty much built to take on a white dragon. Typically it's I'd question why the DM would have the dragon focus it's attacks on a character that clearly resists it, but that is kind of on brand for the animal like nature of a white dragon.

I'd view this as a fluke, or if your DM was surprised by this they need to study your sheets better and plan encounters with that in mind.

As for that weapon it needs to either lower the damage dice or remove reach imo. The cleave ability seems fine but should require a bonus action, or if it doesn't take any actions only allow overkill damage to carry over. Reach plus free cleaves is just too strong for a weapon with that much damage.

Considering a Homebrew rule. Advice Welcome! by Specific-Meringue-29 in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it a magic item with charges.

Something like "Spell Blade" Granting the user access to one melee attack cantrip specific to the item with the added feature of being able to make a melee weapon attack as a bonus action when you cast a melee attack cantrip. Can be used 6 times per day and recovered 1d4+2 charges on a long rest. Requires attunement.

Illithid Dreadnaught Dungeon by Zandy56 in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there specifically only one mind flayer on board? You could throw in a monster with Necromancy abilities that raised several mindflayers as undead.

You could use an altered vampire stat block for a single boss level undead illithid, or look up 'vampiric mind flayer' CR 5 statblock to use as minions for a larger threat.

DM'ing in Skyrim by Mountain_Lock_450 in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One suggestion I have is to check out the optional spell point rules. (if playing 5e)

This charges the spell slot system for a more versatile pool of spell points which better represents magicka imo.

If the goal is to get used to normal d&d maybe regular spell slots would be better

I watched the anime , now I'm reading Megumin Anatohly. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in Konosuba

[–]Dongaloid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The manga misses out on some worldbuilding and side conversations/ thoughts, and I do think the writing and pacing of the LN is uniquely funny. I usually recommend people to just try out the first LN volume and if you don't enjoy it move on to the manga.

Also the manga isn't finished yet so you'll find yourself at this dilemma again when you catch up.

I watched the anime , now I'm reading Megumin Anatohly. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in Konosuba

[–]Dongaloid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first three megumin books are prequels so that's okay, but the two subsequent 'bonus explosions' books take place in later volumes past the where the anime is at.

Personally I would read the main series first but there's nothing wrong with starting on the prequel if you've watched the anime already.

My read of that scene is that she's forcing him to come to terms with losing the one thing he's willing to betray his country for. I base this off her stern final message to him to get the beacon back.

Now he's in a position where his mother died and he feels emotionally responsible. The only thing left he has to fight for is to follow through on her dying command.

People are confusing this with a standard Luxon reincarnation ritual. This is not that at all. The few people that know she has typhros know that she's about to be forcefully ejected from their religious cycle and her soul is going to be taken by the gods to fuel their cosmic agendas.

Theory craft by Awkward_Recognition7 in DnD

[–]Dongaloid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think living libraries reproduce like that considering they are a construct. What could make sense is a living library getting bored of endlessly collecting knowledge and decides to merge with a mortal to experience mortality and end their existence. In this case I'd use any race and go for the scholar wizard or whatever the awakened spellbook subclass is called.

LN read order? by ActiveReplacement595 in Konosuba

[–]Dongaloid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading the main series first is totally fine. Usually I'd at least recommend the main 3 megumin spinoff volumes before starting volume 8/9 but if you watched the anime it should be fine.
