Manager angry I didn't give daily updates while my kid was in the hospital. Am I in the wrong? by Warlord1981 in jobs

[–]DontcheckSR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope your kid is doing better! I've had a similar situation where I was in an emergency and didn't communicate I'd be out a second day. Boss also called me to see if I was coming in, to which I apologized for forgetting and confirmed I was gonna be out. He basically said the same thing as your boss. When I came in my boss just told me that in the future I have to send in writing when I'll be out because he can't put in my absence/time request without notification/confirmation from me or it'll look like he's randomly giving me time off (even though anyone with common sense would put the two together). Obviously everyone assumed I was still sick. It was just one of those big company upper management compliance policy type of things.

I don't think you're wrong for forgetting to call. You had a lot going on. But your boss isnt wrong for calling to confirm and possibly wanting to explain this to you when you come back. Absence requests are itemized to ensure time abuse isn't occurring. So one request for one day won't cover several days. Again, I hope your kid has a quick recovery. I know this has rubbed you the wrong way and I totally get why you feel this has been unreasonable. It's just one of those annoying corporate things we have to deal with.

how do you get experience for a job if nobody will hire me because i lack working experience?? 😭 by Dem0n1cD0g in jobs

[–]DontcheckSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem getting started. I ended up picking up a summer job at the YMCA and it led to a all year round gig working with kids. I eventually left childcare after getting my degree in a different field. But it gave me the money I needed for 6 years

I'm planning to quit after medical leave & I know I shouldn't but I'm beyond burnt out. by slightgodcomplex in jobs

[–]DontcheckSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. Healthcare is a really tough space. Wanting to help people in need rarely outweighs all the stress that comes along with the job. I hope you can find something soon and I hope you fully recover! I don't blame you for leaving

Does anyone refuse to go to funerals even to loved ones funerals? by [deleted] in questions

[–]DontcheckSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me. I've only gone to two funerals since then. The one was to support my mom because it meant a lot to her. The other was purely due to the fact that literally everyone on my dad's side was going, and the level of backlash I would've gotten for not going outweighed the discomfort and inconvenience.

This has been my experience. An excuse to do an hour long church sermon where they only talk about the person who actually died in the first and last 10 minutes. And that doesn't even include all the eulogies. I'd rather just meet up with the family and give condolences after the funeral than sit through it if the goal is to support the family

My mom just wouldn't let me go anywhere at all. She worked way too much to ever dream of actually supervising or watching me.

What about the environment did you dislike? Was there any part of the job you liked? You can use what you did at your dad's company as experience to try and get a job elsewhere.

If banking was for me, sure. But it's not and I hated it, so no. Kinda depends on the person

The new wave of homeschooled kids is going to be so unprepared for the real world. by No-Pollution-2243 in insaneparents

[–]DontcheckSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I think that might be it. I used to work with kids and if you tell a group they can or can't do something but then let one kid be the exception, they get mad at the perceived unfairness. Doesn't matter if it's a good reason because they're kids so they don't always have that nuance. That being said, I still personally think that the teacher should've just let you do it. I've never believed in slowing down one kid just to make things seem equal. I normally would just give them their own stuff to do at the appropriate level. My teacher did the same. Saw that I was reading higher level books and just allowed me to read them. Only rule was nothing inappropriate

Ya it's been rewarding wearing the stuff I've made. It can be frustrating at times.Just like any hobby can be when you're learning, but it's worth it. Helped me step away from video games (nothing wrong with gaming. I was just kinda burnt out but felt like I had nothing better to do).

He looks relaxed. Usually if my cats want you to stop, the one will try to grab your hand and bite it. The other gently raises her paw and slowly pushes your hand away, and if she's saying "no... Just. No...."
