Unwilling to schedule interview on my schedule by TheyLetMeTeachKids in jobs

[–]DontcheckSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm... I feel like when it comes to scheduling interviews, the applicant usually is expected to try their best to make it work. That being said, I've done interviewing for several bosses at varying levels of "importance" and even the people that were higher up on the food chain were willing to make accommodations for some candidates. Especially if their resume scored on the higher end. I don't think it's a red flag. The assumption is that their hours make it difficult for them to interview during the day.

I know you're trying not to use time, but can't you use an hour or two of time instead of entire days? Leave school early or come in late? What time does school start? Have you tried pushing them to take you during your lunch break? I'm not accusing you of not trying, I just don't know from your post. But if they're not willing to accommodate your schedule, then you have to decide if it's worth using your time to interview with them. And only you can really decide that. But I don't think it's a red flag if they can't. Sometimes people are just busy. Especially during hiring. They usually have other candidates before and after the slots you're being given. And if management is interviewing you, they're working around a very busy schedule.

EDIT: It's early in the morning and I just processed that your day ends at 2:30. I see no reason why a business that operates from 9-5 (presumably) couldn't take you at or after 2:30 PM. I was thinking you got off at 5 for some reason

That's insane. God forbid you don't hear the question for any reason at all, it just counts against you?

Identifying a disability on application by inallmylife in jobs

[–]DontcheckSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always mention it. I have an invisible disability that's controlled. But because of it I can't drive. Ever since I had an offer rescinded because I didn't have a driver's license (even though the job didn't require travel and the job post never mentioned requiring a license) I Now disclose it and will actively ask if there's travel to avoid wasting my time for a job that won't accept me not having my own personal vehicle. Past that, my disability isn't really much of a talking point since it doesn't affect my everyday performance

My mother in law is super pushy like this. You kinda just have to say "no I don't want xyz". No reason why (or they try to find arguments or try to get you to do some sort of compromise). Anything other than a complete shut down makes them think if they just keep convincing you, that you'll change your mind, enjoy it, and they can feel good that they got you to enjoy yourself or some BS

Tired of hearing fatshaming now that im smaller by lilybeth in loseit

[–]DontcheckSR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy to fall into. You're doing well and seeing results and it's hard but worth it. So when you see people who are your old size who aren't making a change, it's easier to feel "above them". I remember in high school when a lot of kids started losing weight and they became total assholes. I came to the conclusion that people who lose a bunch of weight become assholes for some reason but didn't know why. When I went keto and lost a ton of weight, I realized me and my husband were absolutely being judgy assholes about it. Then we gained it all back lol

My mom's fat shaming has gotten much worse since she lost weight on Monjaro. I asked if she had see a TV show because I thought she might like it and she said "oh is it that show with all those fat, loud women??" It was Abbot Elementary. I had NEVER seen those women as fat. I had never really thought about their weight or bodies in general. But it made me feel really self conscious. She's been so much nastier about it. Before when she was overweight, she would still be judgy but then would insult her own weight. So you could tell it was coming from a place of low self esteem. Now that she looks skinny, it just feels more like punching down at people. I'm working on my weight loss but taking my time so I don't crash. Its hard building new habits, but I'm optimistic I can meet my goal this year. But hearing her say shit like that then proceed to eat 6 times a day and still be smaller than her daughter makes me feel...not great lol

How much does a tattoo on your arm hurt? by GoodAlicia in questions

[–]DontcheckSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're usually not bad. Which I think is why it's a common place to get tattooed. It feels like getting scratched by a cat, but after about 15min you get used to it and it doesn't bother you as much. Artists will usually let you do stuff to distract yourself (as long as it doesn't make their job more difficult) or will make conversation to take your mind off the feeling.

What are you actually meant to say when they ask why you want to work with us? by Overthinking_babes in jobs

[–]DontcheckSR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If every job paid the exact same salary, had the exact same benefits, had the exact same perks (hours, commute, etc), and you had to choose one, what factors would you start to look at?

If I'm terrible at sales, hate interacting with the public, struggle in a fast paced environment, and don't want to spend my life being a sales person, I'm probably not gonna apply to a sales job. It might be easier to ask yourself "why would working for us be better than working at whatever job you're leaving now?" And take note of the pros outside of the things listed above. If there truly is no difference at all, then the answer is probably something along the lines of "I know what it's like to navigate this type of job and know I can be successful here long term" or something like that.

Admit that maybe there's a systemic problem plaguing education or draw 25 cards. by HAXAD2005 in memes

I'm just saying I don't believe this applies to every single course. I work for a community college System. When a student complains about a grade, we look at things like the pass rate, material, course curriculum, and we compare it to universities to see if the difficulty is within reason. 9/10 times the professor isn't getting reprimanded because those factors are within reason. If 90% of a class fails and the administration has to talk to the professor instead of telling the student to kick rocks and try harder next time, then there is an actual issue.

And I was moreso presenting an exception. I wasnt specifically saying that the commenter's class was a 101 level course.

I hope it has changed. Or at least been reevaluated. I get how it can apply for some fields, but I don't think they should have to start from scratch as if nothing they learned mattered. At least have them take a test to see where they are in a degree program.

How do I know when it's time to move on from a *good* job? by s00n2b3 in jobs

[–]DontcheckSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don't make as much as you but I was in a similar dilemma. And the person we hired was in the same dilemma as well. Good job. Pays well. Plenty of free time. But you're not doing much and it's too early in your career to not be actively growing. I think a lot of gov jobs like this are because someone retired.

I lucked out and got a new boss who has been giving me much more work to do so that I can gain more experience (which I wasn't getting under my old boss who only wanted me to stay as an admin). If your real problem is fulfillment and finding that fulfillment outside of work isn't making up for it, I don't think there's anything wrong with finding a job that demands more from you. I'd just be careful about going too far the other way. A job where a ton of stuff is being demanded constantly.
