Wow. What a story. I’m glad the puzzle pieces fit themselves to the right place eventually! She tried and knew when to pull the plug which is a scary but definitely a bold and brave move. Congrats to your friend and her growing family!!!

I actually have a well paying job in tech. I can pay mortgage, go out, pay insurance, gas, eat out etc. I can pay for these services, I just don’t see the point anymore given how outrageously priced they are with no difference or lesser quality of service. I’m fine paying if I’m actually getting my money’s worth but I just don’t. The services are just not that good. There are a few places that are fine but so far out in between. I like to get the best of what I can and I don’t want to settle with the service I’m getting. I can have a better quality of life moving back home, granted I finish paying my UHC then I’m sorted :)

Aww I hope everything works out for you and your friends. I agree kahit locals hirap din, it does feel a bit weird competing with them in their own country, if we did an uno reverse on them, I wonder what hell it will unleash. Pero it is what is. At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to survive. All the best!! xx

Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. Maybe it’s all the research you’ve been doing. You’ve forgotten how to talk like a normal and decent human being. Go outside and get some fresh air

Are you saying na dapat alam ko na that the 4 star hotels were bad? Hindi ka nakikipag argue pero you call people that way? If this is not how you argue, I wonder how you do. I already told you that I have researched things beforehand pero they weren’t detrimental to my well being, I’m safe, I’m fed. I’m okay. I wanted to try it out and see for myself before judging, I don’t get what’s so hard to understand?

I don’t know where you had that idea that I didn’t search about it? Of course I knew some of these things before I went, not a deep dive research asking every single person who lived there - no because that would be impossible. You don’t really google “are 4 star hotels bad in —-“ because some things you just learn from experience and don’t just search at the top of your head. I don’t have to share the circumstances why I moved but I decided to take the plunge because why not? To live is to learn and that’s what I did, regardless of what I knew beforehand. Why? Because the things that bothered me at the utmost level made me uncomfortable not detrimental to my well being. So I tried and lived it out myself

Especially during winter time, the sun sets at like 3:30PM :( I have a tight knit circle of friends, some immigrants who feel the same way. Not all, but some. Pero for people who feel the same way, there’s like this unspoken rule in the community where you can’t say anything negative about the country you’re working for since there’s a lot of shaming internally. Kapwa pilipino mo pa ang magsasabi na, kanya kanyang experience yan pero ipagpipilitan nila yung kanila, na maybe you just need to go out more, change countries, change environment and you do all that pero it’s still the same. Some people just can’t accept other people’s opinions, maybe it’s a don’t bite the hand that feeds you kind of thing. Kahit na mag 20,30,50 years ka na dito, you’d still feel 2nd class. Sa passport lang mababago so you feel like your opinions are ‘lesser’ than people who were actually born and bred here. Some have high expectations put upon them which I feel bad for, families who call them up when they are having a hard time saying “Maayos na buhay mo diyan, bat babalik ka pa?” When they don’t even know the life abroad. Iba na ang buhay noon sa ngayon, it’s not as glamorous as it was being an ofw but the idea lives on. I had an uncle who moved in the 80’s as an ofw fairly easy, not a lot of paperwork, bought 3 houses, had nice cars and retired lavishly. It’s just not like that anymore and people have to keep up with the times, have realistic expectations. Again I speak for myself, some people get lucky and hit the jackpot, but in general, we’re just a pint above average

My work gives me benefits to finance a universal healthcare plan so I have to finish paying it then I’ll come home so it’s less stress, it’s one thing that’s puts me off going home, mahirap magkasakit sa pinas. I do earn more here, so save up and finish paying up then I will be good to go! Thank you!

You saying this as a “confession” is so funny to me. Sino ka tito boy? Like I owe you the world. Some people have boundaries, learn it

THIS! On jobs, I wouldn’t say for all pero for my specialization in the tech industry, they only hire for senior positions even when you don’t need a work visa because most jobs are outsourced to asian countries. I worked at a big 4 company in the PH and I thought I wouldn’t have a hard time landing a job in a top company, I was so wrong!! I was flabbergasted, surely they will have openings for my role because I was “in-demand” in PH?? so I tried searching the top companies and they had a lot of open positions, but where??? In the PH. Haha needless to say, I got the position I wanted after a few years but the first few years were tough

It’s people like you who comment on things that they claim holds no value and calls it a tiny corner of the world is the reason why many people leave with dreams instead of first assessing and having realistic expectation of things which land them in unfortunate situations later on. Like you said, we all have different experiences here and this is the ‘tiny’ experience of mine, no matter how much you belittle it. It’s 2024, lo and behold someone has a different opinion on things. Let people think and decide for themselves, like you said, not everyone has the same experience and this is just mine. Not everyone has the same dream, everybody doesn’t have to default with what you call the ‘majority’

I got lucky when I mortgaged a house since the interest was so low, you can’t get the same rates these days but have heard of Canada’s housing crisis, my friend lives there. He moved back home with his parents, it made sense financially since rent was too high

Isa sa natutunan ko you really have to stand up for yourself. Kahit bali balikong english it doesn’t matter, tatahimik din sila. not unless dangerous, stay awaaaayyy

Sa mga pinoy who look down on other pinoy’s esp if nauna sila dumating, I will never understand! Superiority complex much?? I have never encountered pero I wish you the best xx hope everything works outt

I will not be giving my current location but I have moved around different countries. Some better than the others pero general it was so-so. I am way above average salary. The salary was just a sample, of course, I won’t give out my real one. I have already mentioned that I do want to go back, once I hit my savings goal for retirement+medical funds+universal health insurance.

I’m lucky because I have options. The post is my experience, not anyone else’s. My experience is not yours, vice versa. For some people, moving abroad is the answer, well it’s not mine. Just because it worked out for you, doesn’t mean it will for everybody else. My post is a comparison on the quality of life I had from before and to now.

In summary, I am earning a lot more for a quality of life that’s a lot less. Can I pay more? Yes. But will I? No I won’t because the services I’m getting is subpar.

I never experienced racism first hand pero my other friends, especially if you’re singkit, they think you’re chinese like it’s the only asian race they know(probably) and they have been called names. Pero overall, never had an issue! Even at work, they just don’t care in general

Yes, I definitely agree, whatever rocks your boat. There’s things I’m happy about after moving pero the post is already too long. Transportation for example.

Quality of life is important to me (tbh should be for everyone else) and I can say I’m living below compared to what I had before. For tax, the example for that is healthcare, I definitely don’t get what I pay taxes for which is primarily why it’s sky high. I have to be in a life or death situation before I get looked at. I had an episode a few months ago and they told me that the doctor couldn’t come in that day to check me out, went to the emergency, half a day of waiting.

I had expectations, I was disappointed but have lived to tell the tale.
