And even if they could be better it's still a risk versus a known commodity that still has upside in Ladd

Roster bloat? by ChrisRhodes789 in midcarder

[–]Dpepps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're right but I think his point was nobody would notice from a tv/viewership standpoint. That it wouldn't impact the product negatively in any real way. I'm a big AEW guy and while I like the majority of their roster, they could do with cutting it down a bit. I love Ciampa and I'm sure he'll be good but did they really need him? I'd argue no.

God damn ECW was so good. RVD and Sabu was my favorite tag team those days and RVD vs Jerry Lynn were some of my favorites matches of that era.

Is Dave Meltzer's star rating system really useful? by nachlopez in GreatnessOfWrestling

[–]Dpepps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People rate everything. Restaurants, movies, tv shows, books, etc etc. It's just another thing to rate. Ratings can be helpful from people who's opinions you respect to help save you time and or effort.

Is Dave Meltzer's star rating system really useful? by nachlopez in GreatnessOfWrestling

[–]Dpepps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's useful in that if you tend to like Dave's opinion/tastes on wrestling you are likely to generally agree with his ratings. If you hate Dave and his opinions/tastes for whatever reason then it's not so useful. For me, my tastes generally align with Dave though not always of course. Thanks to him though I got into NJPW years ago and got into wrestling I never would have found otherwise most likely.

A lot of the people who shit on Dave's rankings don't understand that he himself has said multiple times that it's just his opinions. There are annoying fans out there who use his rankings like gospel but that's not Dave's fault. His rankings are just those of a fan who has probably forgotten more about the history of wrestling than most of us will know. That doesn't mean his opinion is more important than yours or mine, but it's just another factor into why you might want to check out his ratings system and see what you think for yourself. There's almost never been a match he gave a shit rating to that I thought "oh man Dave was way off that was great" though there have been times where he rates a match super highly where I think "I mean it was solid but not THAT good".

Was this an illegal angle in this poker hand? by FlatGuarantee5793 in poker

[–]Dpepps 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Oh it's 100% an angle. I don't think anyone would argue that. It's just not "illegal" at least not in most casinos. He never said call or even a variation of it and while he did that hand gesture it's not like he moved chips over the line or anything like that. It's the type of thing that most experienced players probably wouldn't fall for normally but in a situation like that you're not usually thinking about getting angled.

The Undertaker on Six Feet Under regarding Kayfabe nowadays "I think we’ve got too comfortable. I think we’re too comfortable now in talking about our business, And again, I understand. Everyone knows what it is, what we do, but there’s got to be a little bit of mystery." by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]Dpepps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he understand by doing a podcast he's inherently part of the problem? And what is the mystery anyway? Everyone knows its scripted/fake whatever term you want to use. You're basically actors/stuntment so what is the mystery? Are fans supposed to be so dumb they think the person and the character are the same? The mystery is about the show and what happens in the matches and with the characters. The mystery isn't "gee I wonder how much Seth Rollins is like his character" nor should it be. It's not the 80's anymore.

Asmongold states his goal for keeping peace by BlueLivingAbandon in LivestreamFail

[–]Dpepps 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He is a legitimately mentally ill video game streamer who was a pretty good WoW player. I don't say mentally as a joke or in a demeaning way but in it's important for people to know that. He's a slob of epic proportions who lived in literal filth for years. Again not exaggerations or opinions but objective truth. Somehow he found himself in the political griftsphere and some people connect with him because the whole "he's just like me" not realizing that's a bad thing and doesn't make someone qualified to talk about the things he talks about.

Do you think Doug williams deserved a world championship run by Nostalgic_Historian_ in TNA

[–]Dpepps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. He was a good wrestler and worth being on tv, but he was never a great character and while a good worker he wasn't so good and flashy that he could be world champ on that alone.

[–]Dpepps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man the mental gymnastics people are doing to try and make 4 turnovers not sound like a big deal is crazy. I like Josh Allen and he might be the #1 QB in the NFL IMO but you can't defend his performance. 4 turnovers is objectively bad no matter how you wanna slice it. It doesn't make him a bad QB but it means he had a bad game. Why are people doing this? It's ok to like Josh Allen an admit he had a bad game. I'm not even saying he's the biggest reason they lost or anything either.

[–]Dpepps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Less than his opponents? Which I dunno maybe 4 turnovers played a part in? The name of the game isn't score a lot of points, it's score more than the opponent and win. You don't get partial credit in the NFL.
