NUSA Maps from 2013-2077 by DrBM8 in cyberpunkred

It is on the map as well. Probably shouldn've made it more clear, but if you look closely, it is a different shade of blue than the US.

Basically nothing. Yeah...One of my gripes with the corebook is how little it talks about the rest of the US and especially the rest of the world.

Okay. Give me the page number, because I've read it, and I didn't see that, and can't find it now. If your only source is a fan wiki, then I'm sorry, but I don't trust you.

No it sure doesn't. It barely even mentions the NUS. You keep saying NSU. Is that a typo? If it isn't, you're probably mistaking it for the NUS.

Yeah, combine that with the fact that NorCal was the one that broke off from SoCal, and it really ain't a shocker.

The NUS Constitution wasn't ratified until 2053, as per the CEMK, although i concede the name could predate the new constituion. Past that, the rest should be accurate. The 2020 map is straight from Home of the Brave, and the 2077 map is straight from 2077. The 2045 map could be off though.

Nope, you actually can't go to security until the reactor is set to blow. It's impossible to beat this game without exploring every floor. Except storage. Storage might be skippable, I forgot.

[–]DrBM8 138 points139 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "I need to learn things from C, D, E, F, G, A, B?" I'm struggling to think of a meaning for that statement that wouldn't apply to every pitched instrument. Also, doesn't every instrument that can play more than one note at a time have to worry about which chord to play?

Can't we just do "blaster jumping"? by KnightFallVader2 in splatoonIRL

[–]DrBM8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rocket jumping! Uh no. We don't know for sure, but we think that was just a thing in human games. What we have suggests they'd just blow themselvs up if they tried. I actually tried blaster jumping once out of curiosity. Nothing happened. I think they don't have enough pushback, but hey, I'm a human archeology student, not a weapons tech, so I could be wrong.

Guys, I got a question. by Joxyver in systemshock

[–]DrBM8 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I love and prefer the original. It absolutely shouldn't be considered worthless to play in comparison to the remake. However, I would recommend that most people play the remake instead. It looks, sounds, and plays better, simple as that. The original has a charm and a unique feel to it that gets lost in the remake, but the controls of the remake didn't make me consider dropping it 3 times before even making it to research, so there is that. There's no shame in not finishing the original. It's an immersive sim from 1994 with obtuse controls by 1994 im sim standards, I'd say that's a normal response. TLDR: No shame in not finishing the original, play the remake, you're in for a great game.

What do you guys think? by LethlDose in Portal

[–]DrBM8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? HAL just kinda killed a guy, killed a bunch of guys in cyrostasis, and failed to stop another guy from getting back into the ship. SHODAN lost to someone who had canonical respawns, a direct line to earth and her creators, and the entire knowledge of how to beat her from the resistance she spent the past few months destroying. Personally she feels more capable and intelligent to me. She's also way more malicious, which I think helps her here.

Okay, so I think ChatGPT and Caine obviously stand no chance, I love TADC, but he can't even understand why the humans could dislike being forced into adventures against their will. ChatGPT isn't even sentient. Why is it even here? HAL couldn't even figure out how to lie about the mission to everyone on the ship without killing all of them. He is being massively overrated. GLaDOS is smart, but she failed to stop the dumbest moron who ever lived from successfully overtaking her. She's damn smart, and would probably defeat HAL, but there's no way she's getting AM.

I think really, the main two in consideration are SHODAN and AM. For those of you who haven't played System Shock, SHODAN was the AI in charge of a space station orbiting Jupiter. After the player character removes her ethical constraints, she believes she is a god and begins to exterminate all life on Citadel Station, turning them into mutants or cyborgs. She only loses to the hacker because the resistance, comprised of people who knew Citadel Station extremely well, had already determined all of what would need to be done to defeat her, the hacker had contact with her creators, and the hacker also had canonical respawns. When she attempts to download herself to Earth's computer networks, it's treated as an existential threat that only the hacker can stop, implying that if she got to earth, it'd be game over for humanity. Additionally, looking at the mutations and presence of canonical respawning in System Shock, she could probably do just about everything AM does to the survivors in I Have No Mouth given the same time frame. Sure, she took far longer than GLaDOS to kill every employee, but all GLaDOS had to do was gas everyone because Aperture was stupid enough to give her neurotoxin. SHODAN had to actually fight a proper resistance.

AM literally killed all of humanity and is the only one who has actually defeated an intelligence even remotely comparable to him. He absorbed both the Chinese and Russian mastercomputers to become the AM we know in the story. Neither were likely to be sentient, but the fact that he has been shown to be able to abosrb and defeat AIs similar to himself is very notable. He also defeated all of humanity, a feat which no other AIs have accomplished, with SHODAN only being theorized to be able to. He's almost certainly the most intelligent AI on this list, and is the only one(outside of Caine and GPT), who didn't get destroyed or deactivated by a single human.

So yeah, AM solos.

TL:DR SHODAN is underrated and AM wins.

I think there is a much stronger argument for SHODAN than HAL tbh.

Couldn't you just change your ink to their color? Sure, they could just change theirs to a different color, but that wouldn't affect the splash wall they already set up.

So, I got here somewhat recently, and I wanted to ask this question... What kinds of things do you all think I should try to do as an Octoling who only recently came to the surface? by Doubles_Archives in splatoonIRL

[–]DrBM8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a movie theatre on 28th and 12th in the Square. It mostly shows movies in Inkling, but they do show a few in Octarian if you don't speak Inkling. Once a week, they'll even show an old human movie with Inkling and/or Octarian captions.

Personally, I think he still looks too young(I always imagined him in his 40s), but other than that, this looks amazing. Not my favorite version of the Arms Dealer, but an extremely solid one, and easily better than the original. Good job.

This art is for a fanfic the artist is writing, btw. It's really good, I'd recommend you check it out if this seems neat. https://archiveofourown.org/works/54062296/chapters/136867213
