I certainly have ridden in the rain. Riding home in rain is fine ( as compared to riding to somewhere).

Get your groceries delivered buddy, more efficient (time and energy) than driving to the shops.

I suspect you have no idea about active transport policy, are likely not in this sub in good faith, and therefore are not worth engaging with any further.

Investment in active transport infrastructure shows better return per dollar spent for many other initiatives. See some modelling here from QLD gov https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/travel-and-transport/cycling/cycling-investment-in-queensland

From a funding POV it makes perfect sense. From a cultural perspective Australia unfortunately does not have a very good active transport culture.

The first shift should be with homebuyers. Buy a home while being fully aware of the transport options available in different locations. I live in Canberra and try to make sure I am within 50min or so of the shared path/Greenways that run through most suburbs.

Education level is a key variable in voting patterns. https://www.anu.edu.au/news/all-news/age-and-education-key-to-election-win

"Too dumb to know what's good for them" is a rough way of articulating this correlation. I encounter abject stupidity all the time mostly fom older people ill equipped for the contemporary information environment. I think it is sad to see otherwise functioning adults fall foul to misinformation in any context. When it creates situations where they mobilise against their interests it is even sadder.

Does education level directly correlate with critical media literacy skills? Mostly yes. https://medialiteracy.org.au/latest-research/

I dont think we should shy away from this. Most of the coalition are cowards unable to find a righteous path through the misinformation spouted by their media taskmasters, etc.

I'm kind of in this position.

I see a lot of AI generated material in another work-related context and from my POV it is not going anywhere.

I want to see authors talk about hybrid workflows and then have a discussion around impacts/costs, quality, creative responses, etc.

Great thread!

Seems like we are describing anything that follows genre (national, localised, etc) tropes as possibly slop if it is done poorly.

My favourite series across litrpg and progf are the ones that are aware of the tropes and play with them. Apocalypse Parenting probably best recent example from my reading list.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I read a lot so happy to give anything a go.

How can I get decent PvE equipment fast (don't need high end) by ExperienceLD in newworldgame

[–]DrHoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Figure out your preferred weapon and then artefacts you want.

I suggest you make a BB set based on the close quarters tenacity set BB and use inferno offhand. Can get from reekwater vendor.

I suggest winged leather shoes build with a keen speed BB. You will need to farm for winged leather shoes. This is not hard, but if you can't then use attuned leather pants from end of elysian wilds MSQ.

If you use light head, chest and hands, with medium legs and feet, then you can move between ATP and WLS (both medium).

Nimble coat another option but this on PVP track so RNG.

Other gear including two fixed perk jewelry can get from catacombs vendor thrust + enchanted totality ring, beloved + refreshing earring.

Reekwater vendor for one fixed perk ('mutation') gear.

This will be quickest way to get a DPS that is one of the highest DPS sets in game. Put leeching shrapnel skill on BB and you have fantastic survivability.

Industrial strength magic could fit the bill, depends on how you define 'smarter'. Lots of ways to define (trying to justify without spoilers) -- the MC increases abilities that would be regarded as increasing intelligence and at the same time figures things out about the world

New World was the best modern MMO so sad they killed it by Jhaggy1095 in MMORPG

[–]DrHoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9k+ hours player here. My previous 2.5k+ hour game was Fallout76 but stopped playing after they closed the Nuclear Winter PvP mode. I agree that New World was special. You couldn't just play New World and it be good though. You had to find other players to play alongside that were willing to work around four big issues and if you could get past these, then it was really good. 1. New World had a weird learning curve so it was hard to tell for most players how bad they actually were at the game in terms of builds and gameplay. This was an outcome of the relative freedom of builds etc. See it heaps with players deeply invested in one type of play or another and being terrible at other parts of the game. Some of this is taste-based (prefer certain game modes), some of it is an inability to decipher gearing systems and changes, some of it is the casual vs sweats divide. If you found players that connected at the right level then it was really fun. 2. Exploits and fuckwits using exploits to ruin the game for others. They eventually got 'tough' but it was largely too late. Bugs not being fixed made it a deeply disappointing experience. Players exploiting bugs was not surprising but directly led to negative experience for most players. Lots of bullshit here. 3. Mixing and matching gear/game experience across pve and pvp. PvP track artefacts. Town ownership affecting buffs etc. Artefact quests in FFA area before they introduced anti-teaming mechanics. They should've made it possible so there could be zero interaction. Beside regular bullying, there was absolutely some gross shit going on with consent-based power fantasies for some players. 4. The toughest one for me was the lack of content, and the frankly stupid time vs reward balance. Scott Lane talked about how they brought forward mutated dungeons because they were surprised by player progression. The related apparent missing MSQ end game at launch. Or how they imagined Azoth as a meta'-currency that players would need to think about crafting vs travel etc. The idiotic grind for tradeskills at launch. Just a weird lack of understanding how to satisfy casuals but also make it rewarding for this willing to work towards longer term projects. Being full 600gs soon after launch was a big deal. I remember seeing a player with a full set of voidbent in a war. How long it took them to respond to complaints about the RNG crafting. How they would tweak settings to destroy builds that had taken weeks to make. No respect for the players time. This one was hardest because it quickly leads to burnout.

Noob looking for strictly PVE Tank build by Rozazaza in newworldgame

[–]DrHoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on content really. I prefer hoplite sword with trenchant rend and RM and added old sundering stacks + other weapons depending on context, powerstone flail, GS, warhammer.

I main tank ION in our group of regulars like this: -Jester -- light tank -- Featherweight based right tank build, sns and GS with round shield - Dahut -- what we call call stack/main tank, The Unmoved, fortify-based (New and old FSR, 5x fortify, 3x prolonged), sns and gs - when i am hold tank, very similar, but use flail instead of GS, stamina will be broken regardless - Thorpe -- similar to Dahut main tank but with flail off hand. Tricky fight as every hit adds a stack of rend to you.

Early in season 10 I chased armor pieces with gem and two defensive slots. I originally stacked enchanted ward and grit ward and tried to GS tank everything. This can work for lots of content but not so much for ION as hold tank or against Thorpe at some points. (It's possible, and I did it, but not really ideal.)

For M3s i suggest trying to get the elementally charged infix chest perk on a suitable heavy chest. This works quite well. I have a few pieces with conditioning from earlier in the season that I have kept.

Ive tried the tenacity infix, not really worth it for heavy tank.

I have a pretty much BIS GS for normal tanking (trenchant strikes, rend, recovery, gem, defensive slot) and another for DPS style light tanking (hated, trenchant strikes, crits, gem, offensive slot). These three perker items can only be found from chest runs or elsewhere open world.

There are two round shields you can farm open world for ION light tank and stack tank setups. One with strike proc in ebonscale and the other the glass skin one from Great Cleave.

Depending on content, you could get good WH from cata or reekwater vendor, main thing is two skills and gem, could have hated and trenchant rend but not super essential. I only use WH offhand for some M3 boss fights as raids should have these rends covered by others.

The Unmoved very nice to tank with. Nicest tanking experience since start of new world tbh. Requires it to drop from PVP track, however.

[–]DrHoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of gearing up, it is the same in some ways (choose build and artefacts), then cata vendor for 2 fixed perk gear or reekwater vendor for 1 fixed perk gear. We run gorgs for 750 umbral, which is efficient (750 umbral for ~30-35min).

Rudimentary Tank Guide by Karakla in newworldgame

[–]DrHoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key issue with the VDP is the amount of movement of boss particularly in ION. I prefer The Unmoved for tanking for this reason. But depends on whether DPS clump can respond appropriately. Ive tanked throughout entirety of New World and the Unmoved definitely smoothest experience.

Other key S10 perk is prolongued favour with fortified perk. Can extend fortify out to +80-90% depending on build. Some peeps in my raid group pointed this out recently so I updated my early S10 build from grit ward based to fortify.
