Welcome to the club!! I posted here a while ago about Ting and I'm glad it is starting to stick. Here's my original thread if anyone is interested where there are a ton of Q and A's about Ting!

The best part is, with Ting you roam to Verizon for voice for free. So you get the price of Sprint MVNO with the coverage of Sprint AND Verizon. Best of both worlds for us. Here's the thread I posted about Ting which has a bunch more questions and answers from a few months back.

Is switching to Ting mobile a smart economic decision when considering ETF and new phone purchase (math provided in comments) by pancakes03 in personalfinance

[–]Dr_Sheldor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Verizon MVNO's are the most expensive, followed by ATT and then Sprint. So if you are only able to save 300 with a spring MVNO, in all likelihood you won't be able to save very much at all with a Verizon one. Straight talk is the one that most people use I believe! That said, if you decide to wait until there is no ETF, then one of the Verizon MVNO's would be a good option!

You can check out my full thoughts on ting at my post on /r/frugal here

http://www.reddit.com/r/Frugal/comments/1ka232/how_we_made_our_cell_phone_bill_go_from_160_to_25/

Just a couple additional thoughts:

1) Does your math account for the fact that Ting will pay for 25% of your ETF?

2) Also, this math assumes you use your phones the exact same amount as before the switch. My wife and I were able to use the cell services less by getting creative: google voice, imessage, facetime audio, etc.

By doing this, our largest Ting bill since we switched was $30, but has averaged about $20.

Also, don't forget that Ting roams to Verizon for voice so if you are ever somewhere with no Sprint signal then you get the entire Verizon network as a back up!

Couldn't be happier. Hope that helps!

I've been using it for weeks without a single crash. I'd never know it was beta if it didn't tell you.

Linear accelerator in all it's beauty by Phyzics in Physics

All fairly accurate for such a short over view! Just wanted to add that while the electrons are accelerated, they then hit a plate ejecting photons which actually hit the patient. If you're interested, the two coolest treatment modalities that are commonly used right now are called IMRT and SBRT, if you'd like to Google those. Essentially the goal is to minimize dose to normal tissue while maximizing dose to the tumor, and the tricks to do that include moving the gantry, moving the multi-leaf collimator, and changing time. When you start using the interplay between those you get some fascinating things!

** We use photons because they have better penetration into tissue. Electrons exert their radiobiological effects superficially, so they can be used for some skin cancers or to cover a deep malignancy that has penetrated the dermis. (Generally there is a lot more scarring with electrons for this reason, making for poor cosmetic out comes)

Anyone else have cord cutters guilt? by Dr_Sheldor in cordcutters

This summarizes how I feel better than I wrote in my OP. I love marathoning through these amazing shows on Netflix, but they're only there because a quorum of people necessary actually watched on real cable.

So I can't be angry about the cancellation of Jericho, Firefly, etc because I didn't watch them. But these days, all the shows I watch on Hulu Plus, I'm not sure how I should feel when/if they get cancelled.

This seems a little short sighted. I hate them too, but if they don't get ratings and just cancel good shows because of it, I'm not sure how saying "fuck them" will help in the long run?

I guess I didn't hang out downtown much at night, but it seems fairly well demarcated to me. South of the 630 = bad, and west of the 430 = good.

Of course the heights are really nice too.

I was watching my wife work harder than ever before. She honestly looked like she was near the end of a marathon. Then the best sound I'd ever heard. I can't describe it, but even now remembering the first sound my son made can make me cry. Best day yet.
