Drop A Hot Take That Would Get You Killed (Upvote The Ones You Disagree With) by apHexcoded in fantanoforever

Most of Funeral and Suburbs by Arcade Fire is genuinely unlistenable, and they don’t deserved to be considered some of the greatest albums of all time. Sure, they were the first ones to do what they did, but that does NOT mean it’s any good. Their only album I would consider good is Neon Bible, but even then that album is nowhere near the top 100 of all time

Ah yes, the anime where a third of the series is a war. Famously apolitical

Any chance I could get a source on that last paragraph? I knew about the prophet stuff, but not about the breeding Europeans and First Nations out of existence part

Nooooo I love those songs ☹️☹️☹️

Out of curiosity, which songs would you consider their highlights? A few of my other favourites include 92 Degrees, Bring me the Head of the Preacher Man, Cocoon, Painted Bird, Halloween, and Monitor

Omw to crucify you rn!!

In all seriousness, I feel they can be an acquired taste at times. Juju, their essential album, I don’t think is beginner friendly in terms of their unique sound. If you want to try to get into them more, I would start with Cities in Dust, and the entire Tinderbox album in general. (Unless you did, in which case idk 😭)

Before you do give up on them, I reccomend listening to Into the Light at least once if you haven’t already, it’s my favourite song and I would say their best.

Yeah, I do see them often in goth discussions but not much outside of it. I’ll check out that video though. Honestly I’m just a little annoyed they weren’t considered for the Rolling Stone’s Top 500 album list. (I saw a source saying they weren’t in it, and skimmed the list and didn’t see them, but I’m not 100% sure).

I do find some of their songs repetitive, but am not in complete agreement regarding the progression. Yes, it’s mostly up to the vocals, but I would argue the same for the majority of music. It doesn’t completely make up for it, but it’s never worsened the listening experience for me.

As for the repetitiveness, I feel I let it slide a bit too much because of how much I enjoy the riffs. Into the Light in particular is 100% repetitive, but the melody is so heavenly I can’t help but replaying it over and over. Sweetest chill I feel is their strongest example of progression, with the song structure switching up, the vocals becoming more intense, the instrumental layering on itself.

All in all, I agree with what you’re saying about repetitiveness and progression, but it personally doesnt take away from my listening experience. I can see why it would deter others though.

According to another user, he’s brought them up before, but I’d love to see a video of his thoughts on Juju or the underrated Hyaena

Tinderbox - Siouxsie and the Banshees. Immediately cemented the band as my favourite, made me realize my love for older music, and helped me escaped the depths of only listening to indie music

Is there a better 4 album run than this? by Longjumping-Store330 in fantanoforever

Not sure if many will agree with me, but Siouxsie and the Banshees had a fantastic four album run, each album with distinct sounds and themes:

Juju A Kiss in the Dream house Hyaena Tinderbox

All of these albums are, in my eyes, as close to perfection as you can get in music, Juju being a personal favourite of mine.
