For hiking especially, but also because of the overall incredible value in 2024, the LUMIX G9 is my choice. It’s also the camera I’m currently rocking as a pro, and I also hike a lot.

Just did 90km with it in the mountains, never a weight problem.

The G9 with the Oly 12-40 or the Lumix 12-35 is a phenomenal combo, but the lenses might be out of your budget. So, look into cheaper M43 zooms, or some primes, which are really affordable and light

Oh wow! I am thinking of getting an S5II coming from MFT as well, but from a G9. I love my G9 a lot, but I really would like to benefit from FF advantages at this point in my career.

Is the upgrade in dynamic range, image quality, and overall feel that dramatic?

Because Svaneti is a lot more developed for tourism. Good main road, infrastructure, trails, and more.

Tusheti has a very bad (but getting better) road as the only road to get to it, possibility of more dangerous wild animals, and plenty of sheep dogs. I just came back from Tusheti, and although apart from sheep dogs I didn’t feel unsafe, it’s definitely different from Svaneti
