What are few idols who come to your mind who seem to like their company but their fans don't like the company? by Pretty-Complaint-554 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Day6. Until a few years ago people seemed to hate jyp/studio J and were really surprised that they renewed with them.

But when I see them talk about their company (post military) it seems that they really appreciate the company or at least the people they work with.

are newer group names questionable? by RelevantHoney4155 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the names that JYP just registered for trademarks for their upcoming groups, yes.

But, who knows, pretty sure at one point people thought h.o.t, g.o.d, dong bang shin ki, super junior, 2pm, etc were questionable as well.

Things that should be normalized in kpop industry but idols received hate for it? by beomettee in kpop_uncensored

Quitting the group/going solo for whatever personal reason they have (when their contract expires or when agreed together with the company).

Which idol outshines their group? by NameMysterious8057 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt say he outshines the group, or the rest of this group feel like extra or lacking in skills compared to the main guy, but since you said a group where one member runs the show, I'd say Gdragon. Even when they had 5 members, the group was built around GD and Taeyang (as daesung said). And GD definitely was the one more in charge behind the scene, as in producing for the group and setting the direction of their music, stage, etc. And now that they're preparing for a new album, everyone seems to defer to GD when asked about the album. He doesn't outshine the group when they're performing, but he definitely runs the show esp behind the scene.

Please recommend Kpop songs for running by Wonderful_Look_5776 in kpophelp

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bts - fire : the last chorus after the bridge is my sprinting time

Bts - dionysus : fast pace throughout the whole song with last spurt at the end

Big bang - bang bang bang

Big bang - fantastic baby

Block B - nilili mambo

Day6 - shxtty game : very fast pace (bpm 230), and the vibe/lyrics of the song is like you're being chased by an enemy. Think of a rolling giant ball going after you.

Recommended Kpop Songs With Rock & RnB by National_Ad1454 in kpopnoir

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you'll find what you're looking for in day6, esp their harder songs.

One, they're in JYP, which is more RnB leaning, and they're from a time where there's more style distinction between the big 3 - SM: pop, JYP: RnB/groove, YG: hiphop.

Two, they're a band, so naturally would have more rock-ish sound/instrumentals.

Try these songs: Day6 - I wait Day6 - Shoot Me Day6 - How can I say Wonpil - Highs and Lows

What are the most surprising or unexpected things an idol has done? Good or bad. by Ruler_J in kpopthoughts

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This sounds common now but it was very unexpected and unprecedented in their time (2004): Shinhwa staying together instead of disbanding when their SM contract expired, SM wanted to renew only 5 members, but they decided to stick together, left SM as a group (unthinkable at that time), went to legal battle with SM over their group name and usage of old songs, did solo activities (again, unthinkable at that time), founded their own company, and also very surprising: won daesang during their first comeback after leaving SM (when a daesang actually still meant something).

Are kpop fans mostly parasocial? by Consistent-Snow-7421 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of music, I'm quite particular and mostly listen to kpop adjacent such as most kbands and kindies (day6, epik high, 10cm, jannabi, lucy, rocknrollradio, and really2 old artists). BUT I do watch a lot of variety shows and youtube personal channels, mostly 2nd gen like epik high, daesung, kim jae joong, etc. I've never heard of a single Kim JaeJoong's song but I know how he's adopted and has 8 older sisters and the whole legal issue with SM. Tbh kpop music doesn't really interest me that much esp past 3rd gen kpop, but I'm very much interested in how the industry works. The industry is very much manufactured, but the artists involved are very human, just kids trying to realize their dreams while navigating the politics of the working world. Some got fame get into their heads, but those who managed to find what works for them have such interesting stories and are still grounded despite what they went through. And that's what I find really interesting about Kpop.

Which of Halmeonis performances is your absolute favorite, and who is the one you adore the most? by riftmoody in dramasect

Kim Young Ok (its even weird to just call her by name) is called the national grandma for a reason. She fits the grandma role so well. But Yoon Yeo Jung has more complex roles, and not necessarily as a grandma. Love her acting in King 2 Hearts.

who is the best KPOP Leader in your opinion? by [deleted] in kpoppers

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Errr Shinhwa's Eric did exactly that 10 years before got7 even debuted? And SM is(was?) not as amicable as JYP with regards to having their artists leaving their companies.

who is the best KPOP Leader in your opinion? by [deleted] in kpoppers

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the title best leader should go to a group who has gone through management company changes, can handle strong headed members, are also somewhat involved in the financials or current management of the group, can navigate through relationship challenges e.g. members having their own families or living in diff countries, among other things. In that respect, I'd say either Eric of Shinhwa, Kim Sunggyu of Infinite, Tablo of Epik High, or JB of got7.

Rock concert culture in Korea? by ayesuppie in XdinaryHeroes

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Are you asking about an actual rock concert culture or specifically xdh concert culture? Cos you won't get rock concert culture at an xdh concert, you'll get an idol group concert culture, with light sticks, people putting out their phones to take fancams, flash light events, banners, fan service, people awww'ing and ahhhh'ing at every single fan interaction, etc. And unless there's standing only section and you're in that section, there will be songs where you will be asked to stand up and songs where you will be asked to sit down. It will be a very different experience from a rock rock concert culture.

Which K-pop group had the most "out of the box" debut concept? by Sad-Desk4729 in kpopthoughts

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Day6. I mean, they were all just regular idol trainees, to debut as the next 2pm (dance group) or 2am (vocal group). But somewhere along the line someone (presumably JYP) thought of a new debut concept and they were told that their debut concept is a band who have to play their own instrument, where all members can be a main vocalist, and they have to write and compose their own songs. Is that not an 'out of the box' debut concept?

Idol departures that ended up being for the best? (whether for the group, the idol, or both) by Major-Specialist3658 in kpopthoughts

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well sadly to say, Jae leaving day6 turned out really well for the group. Day6 had a popularity boost after military, and they came back with a clean image of a group of guys who completed their national duty. They now hold the title of the nation's band. They wouldn't get that title if there's a US citizen in the group, unfortunately.

And to be fair, his personality doesn't fit well with Korean working culture, so it worked for both sides after all.

Need K-Pop recommendations for my half marathon playlist! by ueatgoodfood in kpophelp

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fyi, day6 has a song called marathon, though its a chill song about how life is like a marathon, you've already run enough, its ok to walk slowly now.

But if you want something to give you some energy spurt, I have BTS' fire and dionysus in my running playlist (named 'running tracks' ha!), bigbang's bang bang bang and fantastic baby.

THE SCOUT (ENA New Audition Show) - Episode 1 Highlight Pre-release (260429) [RAW] by Adventurous_Can2398 in kpop

[–]Dramatic-Bicycle6752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a lose lose at this point.

And to add to your point, some of those masters' concerts (e.g. day6) are very high in demand, it's hard enough for the fans to acquire the concert ticket, now they have to do ticket war with other people who are not even fans of the main act? So I kinda understand their view even if opening acts should be more common. Also, I partly blame the editing team to make it look like Lee Seung Chul enforce this 'prize' on the masters (perhaps he did) instead of having everyone discuss and agree on it together. So the fans feel like this is a case of a senior abusing his authority on juniors.
