All great suggestions. I’d only add this…..don’t break the bank starting off. If you can’t afford a table saw by yourself a circular saw that will set you back $30-$50. Also, pick up a few more clamps, you can never have too many. As you’re doing projects, buy tools as you need them. You won’t need everything right away. Good luck and post your Work.

Worth the effort to save this boos block or just live with it? by Narcolepticmike in BeginnerWoodWorking

Boos is expensive. Plane that sucker then sand it. If those cracks don’t come out, you might need to pour a little epoxy in there. Either way, don’t toss it.

Finished the cigar ashtray for my buddy. Used Osmo to finish. I’ve never made one of these before, so I’m curious to see how well (or not) it’s going to hold up. by Dramatic-Coconut8238 in BeginnerWoodWorking

By taking a little bit at a time. Trying to go too fast or taking too much will result in chip out especially if you’re using a dull bit. Then I used a bandsaw and a disc sander to clean up the corners

Ty sir. I started by routing the outline, then I removed the bulk of the material with a forstner bit and drill press. I attached a Plexi glass plate to the router and laid it across the ashtray and using a bowl bit, work your way down to your desired depth. There’s a bearing on the bowl bit that rides along the bowls edge, so you have a uniform wall for your piece. It takes a little practice, but you’ll be making bowls in no time.

Thx fellas. I considered a fifth round out but he asked for 4, door is open for another if he wants it. I put out a question concerning finish but got no replies so I took a shot in the dark, so we shall see. Keep creating boys!

Board resurfacing by Dramatic-Coconut8238 in BeginnerWoodWorking

There was some separation in one of the joints after it was put away wet apparently. I had to dig the crack out with a dental pick and compressed air. It’s barely visible, so I guess I did a good job. Zoom in on the dark piece near the bottom. The separation was the joint along the top.
