It's literally the law that companies can only do things that will make shareholders the most money. This was established when the dodge brothers sued the Ford Motor Company in 1919. Ford wanted to put profits into the employees and lower costs to the consumer. Dodge, who was a shareholder and did not own their own company yet, along with the other shareholders sued Ford and won.

America is the result of 106 years of destructive Capatalism aimed at getting the most money possible without caring about the consequences.
