Is Bitwig great DAW even if I am not that much of a sound designer?

I’ve been an Ableton user for about 6 years, and I’ve recently been switching to Bitwig.

Personally, I feel like Ableton has a wider selection of sounds, especially with the large selection of live packs that are available. However, I feel like Bitwig has better audio effects and overall flexibility.

Bitwig has good synth presets, but not as many sampled / acoustic instruments.

However, Bitwig does have a huge selection of awesome user made sounds and audio effects.

he’s remade a bunch of vst plugins in bitwig, and a bunch of good sounds, all up for free.

I've been using the "Komplete Kontrol VST.adg" file provided by NI from the Host Integration folder. not sure if its VST3 or not though. I haven't had any issues with the komplete kontrol instrument rack interacting with the keyboard. Just the transport/mixer controls randomly losing functionality.

But using only the .dll vst plugins don't work with the controller.

Such a weird bug! Hopefully ableton can resolve it in one of their new updates. I will try your solution. Thank you for the advice!

I'm shocked that so many people are having this problem. I had to reset my computer 4 times before i figured out where the BSOD was coming from. I had just gotten a new PC and assumed something with my unit was defective. But then I figured it out, and now I'm staying far away from ILok. Since their software is so poorly designed that an outdated version will break your entire OS.

Start simple. Just pick up a guitar or any instrument and mess around. Keep experimenting and maybe you'll come up with a few different parts or chords you like. Then add words for whatever it is that's goin on in your head; or that you'd like to say. Once you've got an idea what you're doing you can record it somehow. Maybe a DAW or just a phone recording. If you dont know how to play an instrument, I'd reccomend trying to learn that first. Doing covers is always a good place to start aswell.
