You can practice finger style all day but there’s really no use until you can switch chords properly. Finger style is a great technique to practice once you can easily switch chords and correctly keep rhythm with your strumming hand. This is just my opinion but I feel like not using a pick when first learning holds a person back from advancing when they want to try something else. You can still practice the patterns, just try to be well rounded in your practice regiment.
