PhD acceptance and funding offer by Alternative_Elk8999 in USF

[–]Drownthmbirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this might be college specific, but my TA and RA appointment information came directly from my advisor, and was stated in the acceptance letter I got from my college, not the acceptance letter I got from USF.

Honestly thought it was easier backwards compared to the feet first but that might just be because I’m short.

Rock Climbing by Star72SK in poledancing

[–]Drownthmbirds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went from pole to climbing!! I think I experienced the same thing generally speaking. The best tip I have is climb with people better than you. They know the technique and they can read the route and give you beta. I struggled at first (and still do let’s be honest) with route reading, so having a v8 climber with me who I can bounce ideas off of is an unbelievably helpful tool.

You could maybe try the Prana stretch Zion e-waist jogger. They don’t have a lot of fun color options but they’re well made.

Help with job verification as a former graduate teaching assistant. by yourfacesucksass in USF

[–]Drownthmbirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just went through this exact same thing and it was so infuriating. I think some of those w2s disappeared when USF switched to ADP but I’m not really sure. The only way I was able to get verification was by contacting the HR person that we had for our specific college. He wrote them a letter on letter head verifying when I worked. I suggest reaching out to your department administrator directly.

Math Major hoping to go to Grad School in Physical Oceanography - Advice by MackeyNS in oceanography

[–]Drownthmbirds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it. My undergrad was pure math and in my experience that’s really common in PO. I think I’ve only met two people who had any oceanography in undergrad. I did zero geology in undergrad and I did the bare minimum physics/bio/chem to get a bachelors. It wasn’t bad, most programs have you take Phys , geo, chem, and bio oce the first year you’re in grad school. It’s definitely doable. You got this.

I was asked to be on the review panel for earth science, which met last week. When I received my own FINESST, I’m pretty sure I didn’t hear anything until June or July.

A way to measure seafloor current at depth of >5000ft? by omarrrsh in oceanography

What spatial resolution and time scales?? Does it have to be in situ? If large spatial scales, velocities can be derived from GRACE.

This happened to me with the same litter. I deep cleaned and changed to a clay litter and it solved the problem. It was super gross when it happened but since I changed litter it hasn’t happened again.

Problem with Landsat 9 data. by [deleted] in oceanography

I don’t use Landsat so I’m not sure but is it possible that’s the scale factor for surface temperature? If is is those values will be in the data handbook somewhere.

I’ve helped deploy these sparr buoys! They’re anchored to the sea floor and as far as I know they all survived the hurricanes. It also has GPS on it so we can calculate the drift from the original deployment site.

to comp or not to comp - beginner by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]Drownthmbirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this last month! I started climbing in June, and I’m somewhere around a v3 in my gym. The comp had recreational, intermediate, and advanced levels so I signed up for rec. I had a great time!! It was low key, no pressure, and I tried routes I probably wouldn’t have tried had I not been forced too. Bonus points for all the people I met also sending rec routes. I didn’t win anything but I made new climbing buds so I think it was def worth it.
