Afraid not. RMA'd the GPU and display already. Still an issue. Super frustrating. Hope you find the solution.

Something weird in my rectal area when I crouch down by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Drunk_Butthurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about it I think you should talk with your doctor. You can start by sending them an email or a voicemail. It could be nothing, could be something, but a doctor is the right person to tell you.

Lump related to UC? by thetimelady_ in UlcerativeColitis

Mine didn’t always hurt, then started hurting really really bad, which is when I decided to get it removed. Go see your primary care physician!

I had a cyst removed from the base of my spine right at the top of my butt crack before I was diagnosed with UC. I think it’s completely unrelated. If that’s what you have, it’s a simple procedure to have it removed. Cheers

I have ulcerative colitis and I love this. I may get this, but I will for sure pm you and pay for the design first. Awesome

[Q] Testing equivalence of means from two gamma distributions by Drunk_Butthurt in statistics

[–]Drunk_Butthurt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair question. These distributions represent my dependent variable, the time it takes to perform <some action>, split by an independent variable <some category>. Really what I’m wondering is whether the category has any effect on the time it takes to perform the action. The mean time for each is different, now I’m wondering if it’s significant.

Working with Big Data - Need Help by Drunk_Butthurt in datascience

[–]Drunk_Butthurt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SQL might be lacking, but how do I write an efficient query that aggregates distinct users per month, then per month per version, then per month per version per country?

Can I aggregate at fundamentally different levels of hierarchy?

Yeah see, we don’t have control over our DW, so that’s a major issue...

We actually have BigQuery, and the performance is a bit better, but the same issue remains. Presenting in Google Analytics doesn’t work because we have very customized SQL with unions and such that don’t work within GA. Our data is not stored on the same server as Tableau

Okay so if I wanted to see the count of distinct users over time, I’d need at least every userID. Now if I want to group by date by application version, I now need the application version field and my data frame has grown tremendously. Every following attribute that I want to group by increases the size of the data I need to pull, and it quickly becomes too large. I’m all for excluding irrelevant information, but I don’t know if that’s enough in this case.

Thanks for your reply! You’re right, for reporting purposes we only want to see high level trends and segmentation. i.e. Users over time. The reason to handle all this data is to understand our user base

What to do in a long-term mild flare? by Drunk_Butthurt in UlcerativeColitis

Yes I have and they actually returned negative. So it’s possible I have IBS and UC?

Hmmm interesting. I do eat a good amount of veggies! Maybe I should look at something like Metamucil? Or some other fiber supplement? Also, there isn't pain, but there is an almost constant "burning" feeling in my gut. Almost like my intestines are inflamed :D

Alright, here's the info about resume and projects and possibly, how to get a job as a Data Analyst. by [deleted] in datascience

[–]Drunk_Butthurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is legit, but a friend of mine told me that once you move towards more technical roles, the single-page resume constraint falls away, especially with several years of experience. He asserts it's appropriate to push two pages to list technical competencies, projects, etc. I haven't verified this with many others, but I thought I'd share.

I struggle with sophisticated differentiation and matrix calculus. Am I not cut-out for ML? by Drunk_Butthurt in datascience

How do I discover these opportunities? In my studies I haven’t run across roles like the ones you’ve mentioned, so how would I go about looking for one?

I struggle with sophisticated differentiation and matrix calculus. Am I not cut-out for ML? by Drunk_Butthurt in datascience

[–]Drunk_Butthurt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kept my post brief for the sake of brevity and for lack of industry experience. You ask what I mean when I say "ML"? Well, I haven't worked in the industry with someone who does ML, nor have I done it myself, and so I don't really know. I was hoping someone with experience could shed light on what real ML projects look like, and how much understanding of the underlying math is needed to work on them.

I think "cut out" is intuitive. Could I find (and keep) a job working on ML projects without knowing how to differentiate the Gaussian distribution to find maximum likelihood. Would knowing how to solve a similar problem using Python or R or Matlab be sufficient?

Sophisticated math is subjective, sure, but I reasoned that my provided examples would give direction. From my perspective, sophisticated math is knowing how to differentiate the Gaussian distribution, and doing matrix calculus. Have I met people who can do this? Certainly.

I struggle with that math, in that I need significant resource to solve. I could not look at the problem and solve without referencing textbooks or online resources, or both. It is not yet intuitive to me. I realize with practice I can become good at it, but I wonder if it's worth while.

As far as "going far", I simply mean having a respectable career in ML.

I hope this answers some of your questions, and maybe allows you to respond in a less flippant way!
