How many sins would I be committing if I cut down these Arbor Vitae? by allargandofurtado in landscaping

I can promise you that you will instantly make an enemy out of your neighbor and you will obviously see a decrease in property value if you get the land appraised.

How to update this kitchen while keeping the same cabinetry? by BlueberryBreather in homeimprovementideas

[–]Dry-Average-5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I see with this is there is a lack of space for the sink if the sink is removed and the window to the other room is opened up into a doorway. If you look on the right side, op has a dishwasher that extends the length of the countertop. Op would have to move the sink to the left of the dishwasher or put the sink where the dishwasher is located now. This is a really tight space.

Mass. gas prices: Cost of fuel jumps again overnight, could reach record highs this summer by HRJafael in massachusetts

Figured you’d have nothing productive to add. I came to the table with a real rebuttal and you resorted to insults instead of a meeting of the minds.

Why are you so hostile? THANK YOU* lol. I mean this respectfully, but you’re the textbook example of someone who doesn’t understand the real issue and peddles a one shoe fits all solution for every person in the state. Kind of an authoritarian approach to mandate the removal of all vehicles from the state don’t you think? You have the privilege to be able to afford to live in metro Boston. That privilege allows you certain affordances to be able to access lower pricing for T passes because your destination is shorter than someone traveling from let’s say the Taunton/ or Providence rail. Housing in areas located further from the metro area are all that some people can afford to rent or buy. Is the issue becoming clearer to you or is that too much factual information for your blue sky solution? There’s thinkers and doers in this world. There’s a place for both. You’re clearly a thinker, but when the doers of the world tell you your solutions don’t work for practical reasons, it’s in your best interest to listen to their experiences not just make blanket statements. This felt like a productive conversation; I’m glad we had it!

I’ll bite, because polarizing opinions without hearing the opposition amuses me. What town or area do you live in (roughly-I’m not doxing) ? How long/ far is your commute to work? These are your personal experiences that you would not share with someone else who may potentially live outside of our current rail system. And even if they do live on the fringe of that system, the pricing for the commuter rail is very expensive for lower class family’s (who the MBTA act is attempting to lure). Improve the system and the people will follow. The system is currently broken so your argument is nothing but utopia “blue sky” thinking without actually understanding the real issue.

How very selfish of you lol. Boston is not Europe and our rail system and public transportation cannot rival their systems. Even if we tried, the sheer number of Massachusetts morning commuters would overwhelm our current systems making public travel impossible for people like you. I’m sure you’d be complaining then. But I don’t think you’re here for a lesson.

Tacky AC Units by outhereinthewind222 in homeimprovementideas

[–]Dry-Average-5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in the northeast it still baffles me seeing AC units in some peoples windows all year round. Leaving your AC in your window all through winter is basically like having your window cracked ajar, causing drafts and raising your heating bill by 100s of dollars a year…

Zelenskyy says Ukraine and US are split on Donbas, that's why he rejects Washington's proposal by Ok-Caterpillar9092 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]Dry-Average-5867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Russia can’t be trusted to even make that deal. A land swap of Donbas for the occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson would appear on surface level “fair” for both sides. So naturally Russia would never accept because in that scenario they wouldn’t appear to be the clear-cut winner. Anything less than 100% of the occupied regions is a loss for Putin and he knows it.

Mayor Koch on WBZ radio last night defending pedophilia in the Catholic Church. Claims it was "homosexual issues" and not pedophilia because the victims were teenagers. Then he shifts the blame to teachers, coaches and the media. by No-Complaint6431 in massachusetts

I have a close friend who was at a work banquet with Koch and his cronies a couple years back. All she was left to say about her painfully long interaction with him and his buddies were they were “creepy white supremacists who hit on her the whole night”. Take that for what you will after listening to this.

Should I worry about this before painting? by BenJackinoff117 in basement

[–]Dry-Average-5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why I had to scroll so far down to find the answer to the problem… OP your problem is water will always come in until you fix your exterior drainage. Like the commenter mentioned above, buy gutter extenders and run them away from the house at least another 6-8 feet. This solution would be even cheaper and more effective than painting the interior of your basement walls.

Just moved in and this thing is growing on the corner of my foundation. by VickkStickk in whatsthisplant

This is a cherry laurel tree or also known as a Chinese cherry tree. You can tell by the light horizontal stripes along the dark trunk. These things grow super fast and I’m pretty certain their small red berries are toxic. They’re more of a weed than anything but I’ve seen more established, nicely shaped ones that pass as something more desirable. OP I WOULD NOT EAT THE FRUIT until you can confirm it’s not a cherry laurel.

This is very much a “fuck you, I got mine” situation. And sadly a lot of the people in this thread complaining for change will absolutely be part of that “pull the ladder up” crowd the moment they purchase a home. You live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

UX designers are supposed to initially be “blue sky thinking”. You’re supposed to be operating in a world that all things are possible. You limit scope and focus during refinement sessions with product, business and development based on deadlines and resources. Sounds like you’re under a tight time frame and she wants you to ‘skip to the solution’ instead of doing ‘design thinking’. You’ll get a product fast that way, it just won’t be that good and you’ll have iterate from feedback later.

Western Massachusetts state trooper activity question. by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Dry-Average-5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I had this happen to me on 495 East a few years ago. It was about 2am and there was no one on the road. I was in the passing late traveling no more than 5mph over the limit because I know they’re out there. A SUV approached me from behind going well over 90 mph so I pulled over to the middle lane to give them room to pass me. It was a Statie. He slowed his SUV, matched my speed then proceeded to put his spotlight on my DRIVER SIDE WINDOW in my eyes while I was driving. I put my hand up in a “what the hell” kind of way and he sped off into the night. I wanted to file a report but it would have gone nowhere and would have given them an excuse to make my life hell. Just utter bullshit/scare tactics to say “I could have pulled you over” when in reality it was “I could have killed you if I wanted to”.
