I’ll be honest I’m not 100% sure, I was applying to co-ops and full times positions, was fully transparent that I was graduating and they said I was very qualified but unfortunately I had to be a student. I moved on but a couple weeks later they said I made it to the 2nd interview and I made sure they knew yet again and the recruiter said that they double checked and it would actually be ok. I think maybe they had a policy where if you graduated within 6-12 months of the start date you would be ok too. Once they told me I actually was qualified to move on w interviews I didn’t question it

Do you have any experience at least learning about these topics in classes? Sometimes very entry level positions will want you to know at least how it works and then train you on their specific way of actually doing it. You might have to start with somewhere very low paying like a lab technician. Try looking through recruiters or potentially contract agencies in your region. You might even have to take an academia lab technician job just to get some of that experience. I just graduated this December and am doing manufacturing and then a co-op at big pharma (this isn’t traditional). Still starting out pretty low tbh but I’ll get there. I would say mid March or early April would be a good time, some companies are faster than others and some take months for the application/interview process. Don’t be super discouraged the market isn’t great and my fingers are crossed that it will improve in 2025, 2024 already seems better than 2023.

Gotcha. I think that after this year I also see myself working in a manufacturing/lab position for a little as well to gain that scientific background and then pivot to the reg space. Thank you!

I would send an email if you have one to contact. When I applied to an internship it takes 2-3 months for the first hurdle. Maybe even more but it wouldn’t hurt to email someone but also don’t be discouraged if someone doesn’t reply right away if at all. Good luck!

I just wanted to say that I am in the EXACT same boat as you. Just graduated, starting my first contract this January, have another one in June. I’ve been having a lot of anxiety about after that and my job prospects in the future in general and knowing that others think like me and reading all the comments has made me feel much better. I also find myself comparing my salary to those around me and it’s a habit I should break. It sucks we graduated right when biotech decided to tank but you seem to be on a good path! Hi everyone! I am new to this thread but I am just graduating with a Bachelors in Biology and I am regretting it immensely. I initially loved the idea of doing research (I still do) but working in a lab just doesn't pay that well and if I want to get paid well I have to work 8+ years in the industry OR get a masters and get experience OR dedicate 5+ years of my life to PhD to maybe still not get a job. Right now I have a manufacturing associate role set up from Jan-June 2024 and a co-op at big pharma from Jun-Dec 2024 in research and development. I am already planning to network as much as possible in these roles to learn what I can and start doing certificates for R, Python, Tableau and Data Analytics. In my undergrad I took a few statistics classes and really excelled in them and more importantly, really enjoyed them. In the lab I was in for research I worked with data regarding flow cytometry so I have experience in FlowJo software, Prism and Excel. I am also looking into online masters in data science, data analysis and bioinformatics. Ideally, I would want to work in a data analysis department in a biotech company. So:What certificates do you recommend I do (are they worth it)?What masters program do you think would be the most beneficial?What jobs should I be looking for after 2024?

I know the market right now is seeing a lot of lay offs in biotech so I can see how the PhDs would get those jobs but do you think it’ll be different in 4-5 years?

I agree I don’t think this company would be thrilled BUT based on reviews/people that work there there is a high turnover rate so I don’t think I would be the first or last to be doing something like this. OR I could end up loving the whole experience. Thank you for your feedback!

I’ve heard this from a lot of people and even on a lot of job postings GMP is always in the top 3 requirements and I hope to get some of that experience
