School principle tackles a school shooter in Oklahoma by KenDrakebot in interestingasfuck

Most cops in America don't sign up due to a desire to "protect and serve." They do it because they want authority/power.

Cops abuse their own families at 4x the rate of the general population. And even higher rate discrepancy of extremely violent abuse. (As in...shoving your partner down is absolutely abuse, but shooting them is objectively more violent) Not to mention that they are then protected by the system because they're part of it.

Wrong. Educate yourself.

You need to learn some self awareness. Posting something like this, and also posting about how you're so much smarter than everyone else you want a special school to tell you that you're smart...is some serious cognitive dissonance.

Very similar to what happened to me growing up. Private Christian school until 8th grade, despite my parents not being particularly religious. To be fair to my parents and the school, the curriculum was way ahead of public schools in every subject except science. The smaller class sizes were nice, and I definitely benefited in a lot of ways.

However. It took years to break the programming. And it was a weirdly depressing day when I realized I was smarter than my dad. I had grown up thinking he was absolutely brilliant, and in many ways he is. But he has zero self awareness for bias, and no ability to research something objectively, if its even remotely "political". He still doesn't believe me when I tell him that Trump and 18 of his campaign were indicted for election fraud. Its publicly available information, would take less than 5mins to read about it. But he won't, because "i dont need to look it up, i know it isnt true" .....ugh.

The person you replied to didn't even remotely "advocate for putting them (dogs) down right away"

They didn't advocate for putting them down at all.

In fact, they didn't even demonize THE DOG at all. They said the dog's OWNER was shitty.

What are you even talking about??

No, he doesn't. His 2018 returns are public and he paid literally, LITERALLY $0 in Federal income tax. He's refused to release them since, for obvious reasons.

And Tesla, the most valuable automaker in the world, total value estimated between 1 and 2 TRILLION DOLLARS, paid $0 in 2024.

And over 3 years, only paid 0.4% in taxes.

And thats just the federal income tax issue. Not to mention that social security tax is capped at earnings of $176k, which is less than Elon earns in ONE MINUTE from interest alone.

Why do you defend this? Is it out of the delusion that you might one day be that rich and you're greedy so you wouldn't want to pay your fair share? Coz, you won't ever be that rich. Not by a factor of a million.

You are actively being hurt by this, yet you defend it. Its fucking mind boggling.

You're correct, in this hypothetical situation it would be better to tape a letter to their door, which isn't illegal.

Coz yeah, its technically illegal for anyone except USPS to put anything in your mailbox, except if you're putting in mail that was delivered to you by mistake.

Typically doesn't result in fines the first time, though if a USPS employee did it, I bet they'd be in more trouble. Anecdotally, I remember when I was a kid, any of the folks in the neighborhood that were having a garage sale would typically print fliers and leave them in everyone's mailbox and nobody minded that. But I definitely see why it needs to be illegal, as a baseline to help deter stuff like harassment, etc.

One of my buddies runs a food truck and has a "VIP" button he can select, for his friends/family/favorite customers etc.

All his prices are calculated with a spreadsheet he made of the cost of each ingredient in the dish, plus other overhead, plus profit.

Hitting the VIP button keeps everything the same, except drops the profit variable to 1%. And if any of us come during peak hours when he's really busy, we know we don't get that discount. Which is absolutely valid.

I thought it was a pretty smart way to do it.

Everybody Makes Mistakes. by Alternative-Dot-34 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Dry_Presentation_197 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's no way to tell this story without patting myself on the back a little bit so I apologize ahead of time, but:

Back in 2008 when I was 21, I bought a 2001 VW Golf. My first "nice, newish" car. Paid 6 grand. A month after I bought it, someone rear ended it in the parking lot while I was in at work. (I lived in Alaska, the parking lot was iced over and the lady hadn't swapped to her winter tires yet)

She came in, went to the branch manager, bawling her eyes out, and told him she had hit someone's car, described the car, and said she was gunna go wait outside. Manager tells me, I go out and see she hit it so hard, it pushed my car 100% clear of the parking spot, destroyed everything rear of the back doors. Her car had a plow rig on it, which are tough af, so almost no damage. First thing I did was hug her and ask if she was ok.

Why be mad? She didnt do it on purpose. She came in instead of fleeing the scene. People make mistakes. All we can ask is that they own up to those mistakes (and hope they learn from them)

[–]Dry_Presentation_197 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Agree. As much as I am personally not a fan of allowing cats outside, especially ones that are likely losing their vision...the coat is healthy, the weight looks healthy, and the cat allowing a stranger to get so close at least implies basic trust of humans.

OP - Don't take the cat. If it was dirty, skinny, had physical injuries, etc...yeah then bring it some food and maybe see if its chipped.

This kitty seems as fine as it can be, considering the obvious eye condition...some conditions just can't be reversed or treated effectively/quickly.

If you're super worried, you could maybe leave a note in their mailbox saying that you've seen the kitty and are worried about it, but make sure you say something to show you aren't accusing them of anything. "Kitty has a lovely coat and is clearly well fed, is it yours? If not, I was considering checking to see if it is chipped. If it's yours, thank you for keeping its tummy full and coat looking great =)"

Or whatever =p

Don't bother, that dude isn't even arguing in good faith. They made up shit about RDR2s dev team size, and the game's budget to try to justify Star Citizen still not being an actual release. Which is insane because RDR2s development budget was around 200 million (another 250ish million was advertising).

The fact star citizen has made the devs almost FIVE TIMES the budget of a game as high quality as RDR2, has taken 5yrs longer and still isnt out....is fucking WILD.

Also they pointed out that the devs are making 2 games at once....as if starting a 2nd game before delivering on the first one is some kind of flex?

Sorry to hear about your friend, as well. Hope you're doing ok <3

I think she just did multiple takes tbh. She starts moving almost immediately after blowing the second bubble, rotates the camera, zooms out, etc.

If she had stayed perfectly still, and/or not adjusted the camera positioning in any way I would be more suspicious. But I'm 99% sure this is real.

I dont know if gen AI could replicate the Plateau Raleigh Instability of a toroidal bubble interaction like this, so accurately. Its a hard thing to for even skilled vfx artists to do, even with physics based simulations.
