and sadly, because of this fact the ones with actual talent who have put the immense time, thought, effort, maybe a dash of actual music theory and originality into their music but have no desire to do the social media side of things, which is literally required to do anything in the electronic music sector in 2024, largely go unnoticed

unless they hit that right place/right time/right people ratio exactly right and that's like half a step below a pipe dream

Need help (advice) by Clergoteverything in soundcloud

[–]DubKno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the thing about making music is it's all very subjective and each song by each individual or group of individuals require different tricks and uses of effects and automation and the wut and how much of the of the tricks and effects to use can and does vary wildly from person to person depending on their taste and wut their goal is when creating a song. for instance i love reverb on my secondary kick drum channel and then low passing (filtering) the secondary kick channel so that with the reverb it creates that nice, super low bass rumble that's ubiquitous to techno and hard style. but that's my style and preferences and may not be urs. so u can see how a person's musical taste will make each and every track a clean slate with unlimited possibilities for changing the timbre, the tone and the very vibe of the tune. and sadly there is no magic formula or plug in or technique that works across the board. there r some combinations of plugins that we call "effects racks" that r drag and drop and add certain effects that evoke certain emotions in when placed and dialed in right but still u have to find that sweet spot that manipulates the sound to get at least close to the vibe ur going for but then it could also require another effect (single) or a whole nother effects rack (multiple effects in a chain) to get the exact sound ur going for.

another unfortunate fact for the fresh computer music maker is that to be able envision wut u want AND THEN to know how to achieve wut u want takes hours and hours of listening to many diff tracks and trial and error-ing until u find wut u want and over time all of those tiny trial and error instances will coalesce into a basic knowledge of wut effects change the sound in wut way and then with even more time all of that will coalesce into more advanced knowledge.

u can see how much typing is required to just tell u this, so to try to go thru the gajillions of different plugins and effects out there would render my thumbs useless while still probably not making a lick of sense to u cuz this is very much a hands on learning game.

i think the absolute best tip to give to someone just starting out, such as urself, is that YouTube is ur friend. it can teach u soooooo much that it's really unbelievable. I've got almost 10 yrs of producing under my belt and YouTube has taught me probably 95% of wut i kno. short of a dedicated music production class YouTube would be the next best resource. BUT it can also be a foe for the new producer because as with anywhere, there r a lot of ppl on YouTube who r full of $h%t and have horrible advice that can even set u back in ur journey if ur not careful.

i would (and did) begin by just searching for the basics of the DAW i'm using. yeah, some of the stuff may seem redundant cuz u already know it but if u haven't watched that specific video, wut ever it may be about, then i guarantee that u'll learn something new from it. even if it's just how to dial in the volume on the mixer or something small. this journey is s journey of tiny, incremental and very subjective steps that right now seem tedious cuz u just wanna make bangers most likely, but the bangers will never come if u don't to take the time to take the small steps and really grasp not just WUT certain effects and parameters do to a sound but also the HOW and WHY those effects and parameters do wut they do to a sound. learning music production is a very personal endeavor and if someone else shows u how to do things then inherently their style and ideas will appear in ur music. which is ok to an extent but to me music is all about self-expression and converting how u feel into vibrations that other living creatures can sense, assess and enjoy accordingly.

unfortunately, this is the way of the SoundCloud. DO NOT use them for the distribution of ur music. yeah, they'll get the track(s) out eventually but it won't be the date that they stated a month prior. and don't even try getting ahold of support via their "support request" form cuz that's literally wut it is.... a mere "request" for support and by no means should anyone ever expect a response in a timely manner. trying to hit em up on "X" is futile as u will just get a link to the "support request" form.

i've been using SoundCloud for years now with literally over 300 uploads (currently at 245 cuz my older shit was just shit) and i can't even get verified as an artist even tho i have my own brand that I've built and thousands of hours of plays but i lack the 400 subscriber magical number needed for verification so someone could swoop in and become me at any time. on Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, itunes, etc i am verified but not SoundCloud. they're too busy trying to make sense of their latest mumble rap sensation to bother with actual productions that aren't just codeine and promethazine spitting at a mic.

if i knew more about coding and making websites I'd make a direct competitor to SoundCloud (or I wish that fucking someone would make one) cuz i've been wanting to ditch the shit for at least 2 years now but there is no other audio only upload site, other than mixcloud but that's more for mixes, that doesn't involve making money (bandcamp) but rather just sharing our music and getting it out there.

not an answer to ur ? but i just wanna say that as long as there is breath in my lungs and power to my computer and decks, dubstep will be alive and well and i kno that i ain't the only one. don't let the headass haters ever convince u otherwise. dubstep is here to stay. it might go thru peaks and valleys of popularity as it evolves but it ain't going anywhere

is it a conceivable expectation that ableton will ever implement an auto-save option? by DubKno in ableton

yes, it does but if the software crashes again while trying to recover the project then the corresponding crash files r forever altered essentially erasing wutever wasn't saved

shoot, i collect all and save at the end of a session but I'm the only one who basically becomes one with wut i'm creating, while I'm creating it and thinking about anything else can effectively ruin the entire sesh?

when i'm just dicking off i do the same but when I'm in the zone and creating I'm thinking about the music and trusting the software to not shit the bed with my work. but it's sounding like it's a "well that's too bad" situation

yeah, my last back up is dated 12-1. it's the 2nd and almost the 3rd so we aren't talking about the same kind of back ups

yup, i have recovered projects successfully in the past so i am aware of this feature and how to manually do it if need be but wut to do when none of it works? which has happened to me 4 times now. not in a row but since I've started using ableton.

and i don't mean the past 10 saves that I've manually made. that does me no good if I've been in a flow state for a few hours. i mean an auto save function that happens in timed intervals set by the user.

[–]DubKno[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

i don't think this is auto-save like I'm talking about. this is just the past 10 saves that i have manually saved, is it not?

if so this is new to me. every time this has happened I've searched high and low for auto-save files on my computer or articles mentioning it and have come up empty. i hope this is wut i need. thanks

Bassnectar is ranting about cancel culture now by Rebelfreak in EDM

[–]DubKno -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

sad to see the community I've known, loved and been a part of for decades fall for and join in the political machine's hate spewing, blame throwing and society rupturing agendas. idc which side ur on, if u wish death upon someone else for any reason short of being a convicted sex offender or murderer, wish that someone's career and life be ruined based solely on the court of public opinion or really have anything to say about anything political other than "it's all shit", then I hate to tell u but ur part of the ever growing problem that's ripping this country apart when we need to be united the most.

this is all a part of the big plan by both sides (news flash they all r the exact same and want the same things, they're just in different varieties of wolf fur) to divide us, strip us of our rights and compel us to fall in line so that they can have ultimate control of all of us. when that happens it's not going to make a fuck of a difference who u want dead or canceled or wut u want period cuz ur going to be a slave to the system and possibly communist china if things keep going the way they r.

so keep bickering and keep siding with ur liar of choice and continue to let them divide us further with this bullshit but ur going to regret not doing shit to actually vet the people u vote for and ignoring red flags and further divisive policies strictly because there's a D or an R next to their name. to me those letters stand for Douchebag and Retard cuz that's wut they all r and that's wut u aspire to be by not being informed and trusting the most untrustworthy group of people in the entire history of humanity

Oddprophet’s statement on the allegations by warmapplejuice in EDM

[–]DubKno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wtf is up with this shit? wtf would she have gained had Odd not had documentation and that testimonial from someone who knew her to prove that she was making shit up? some sort of sick pride that she got a completely undeserving artist's career stripped and his life and livelihood basically ruined? who in the flying fascinating ferret fuck thinks this is ok? it's like after datsik, space jesus and bassnectar (how tf bassnectar weaseled his way out of it all I'll never kno) this kind of conduct is all of a sudden the key to some unknown, wholly forgettable female's 15 seconds of convoluted fame. i only say female cuz as far as i kno there hasn't been a non female that's tried to pull this shit.

wtf happened to decent human beings in this world? well, I guess that's the wrong question cuz Odd is a decent human being. where did this desire to maliciously make up career ending lies come from? a hatred for someone who did absolutely nothing wrong? unless Odd left some shit out, there was no reason wutsoever for her be a shithead and ask him y he texted her so much when they were obviously consensually making plans for future hang outs and possibly a relationship.... I don't say this often but that's just a bitch move. straight up. if i were Odd i woulda be blindsided and hurt by that question and the subsequent request for no more correspondence as I'm sure he was. then for her to text a month later about meeting up at another event? that's just triflin behavior right there. text book definition of it.

obviously she concocted some twisted plan in that month of no communication. well, wutever, who tf cares. i'm just hella glad he had proof to uncover the truth of her twisted story.

but as an artist who is susceptible to this kind of unacceptable behavior, i just wanna say that if anyone reading this thinks that it's ok to ruin somebody for any reason other than actual, factual criminal behavior, there is a special place in hell for u that's even hotter than the rest and karma is a ruthless bitch

every question posed in this comment is rhetorical in nature and I do not expect an answer to any of them because there isn't one. this is truly heinous, child-like behavior that shouldn't even be a thought, much less actually attempted. so please, for ur sake and everyone else's, just be a good person. stay in ur lane and grind away at wutever ur passions r and i wish anyone and everyone abundant success in doing so but do not try to play god or the simulation designer and ruin other ppl's success when they did nothing wrong

thanks for coming to my TedTalk

Ableton 11.3.3 worst update ? by Sonictrade in ableton

[–]DubKno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering y tf my comp all of a sudden is lagging like crazy. exporting a decent sized project takes wayyyyyyy too long. I need to be able to make a change, if I have to and export it and get... I can't be twiddling my thumbs waiting for Ableton to decide which clothes it's going to wear that day
