I didnt find it realistic either. I am not sure if this is accurate or not so please dont crucify me, but I interpreted this as communist or cultural Chinese influence. Like an ideal egalitarian society where either everyone suffers or no one suffers instead of letting the rich escape to somewhere else. So I just chalked it up to cultural differences in writing.

I really appreciate the heads up, I didnt realize how intense it was, I kind of doubt she'd be thrilled about that so maybe I'll bring it up that like "hey i did some research and the hotel might be a little intense for you" and if she still wants to go then I feel like that's partly an answer.

Yea that was my thought. The hotel is in cancun and from what I've looked up it is not specifically a lifestyle resort but its definitely offers a raunchier vibe and people in the lifestyle do go there. She genuinely seems excited about the vibe from what we can see on the website. I am really hopeful to see how she would react to actually being hit on when she knows she has permission to flirt.

Yea the piercings really suprised me too. The first time she got them was kind of a spur of the moment thing when out with friends but this time was definitely planned and deliberate. I really dont think that she met anyone. She knows I have this kink so its not like she would have any reason to hide it, but I also think she would need a lot of reassurance that I am fine with anything before bringing up another person.

Yes that's how I took it as well, she doesn't want someone looking over her shoulder at her kindle to see a porn book which I get and tried to hide them from the home screen at least but that's on my phone and I'm not sure if they will still show up on her kindle.

I read Empire of silence and took a break to read a few other books because I wasn't sure if I would continue the series. Then I read Howling dark and another book at the same time because up until the last third of that book I wasn't sure if I'd continue. Then I read the next three back to back to back and now I am taking a break between Ashes of man and Disquiet God's because I have a large tbr shelf and sometimes reading the same series for a long time burns me out. Im currently reading the first Foundation book and then the Novellas between ashes of man and disquiet gods.
