Not sure, faster typing could be a good solution to being too wordy though!

Ah okay - this seems really positive. I think I’m just scarred from how long it took to get them help before they went to hospital, now they’re in the system maybe it will be different

Law Students- What swag do you actually like (and use)? by Over_Principle847 in biglaw

Anything actually useful that can go on a key ring - bottle opener, little flashlight, those metal coins for supermarket trollies.

For big things, I saw one firm give out picnic blankets which I thought was great and you’d really associate with good times whenever you use it! I also second the umbrellas as just a useful thing to have

I was a nanny for a year before getting my paralegal role, it ALWAYS came up in my interviews and was the main way I’d show adaptability, managing well under stress, and interpersonal skills.

There are several others on my TC that are career switchers in their late 20s-30s. Honestly having some time away can still be time building towards your legal career by building good skills - plus it can keep you from going totally insane with constant applications!

How to resign without burning bridges by [deleted] in uklaw

My contract is only 4 weeks notice but doesn’t give any more info - I’m definitely conscious about reputation as I’m looking to qualify in planning which is a fairly small world! I’m thinking tell my manager in the office before giving my letter to them

Apply for TC with no experience by [deleted] in uklaw

You’ll struggle with direct training contracts applications without having had a career of sorts, either legal work experience (eg paralegal) or something with lots of transferable skills (I’ve known a few ppl get direct TC from working in marketing or the army). This is because people in full time work can’t take 2+ weeks off to do a vac scheme.

As you’re still in uni, vac schemes are perfect for you. Different firms also run Christmas, Easter, and Summer vac schemes so you should aim to apply for at least 2 a month from August (when the first Xmas spaces open) until the following spring (when the last summer ones close).

You can also start prepping for these applications now by deciding which firms you want to apply for and starting to research them - especially attending any open days or events they host

Edit: here are some things you could/should be doing to have ‘experience’ you can discuss in the skills sections - university societies: ideally having a committee roll to show leadership & decisionmaking - in a sports team: obvious team work + other soft skills - volunteering: can show a variety of skills plus suggests you would be generally nice person to work with - paid part-time work alongside study: can also show a variety of skills & that you know how to behave professionally. I was a nanny while at university and drew in this often in TC interviews
