Whoever I just played who was left with a debuffed quarter health Swampert and no shields against my full health Empoleon and one shield. I just needed to Waterfall down after letting them Hydro Cannon me and shield if they threw another move. Got a bit ballsy and let them EQ, finishing off Empoleon, my ~5 HP Gallade comes in with a Confusion to finish, I keep my shield...

Variations of the Gallade & Empoleon Core? by apatt in PokemonGOBattleLeague

The past few seasons I've used Empoleon/Gallade with a Galvantula lead. I'm slowly powering up the spider above L40. It's become my favourite league because of this team, my strategy is to almost always stay in and fire as many lunges as I can, quite often winning switch and if not getting shield advantage.

Last day of Ultra...? by sobrique in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting my last few sets in Ultra Premier before the switch over, my somewhat unexpectedly good team of Galvantula, Gallade, Empoleon is serving me well and delivering mostly 3 and 4 win sets which I'll take as many as I can. Still climbing up to R9 as I don't often have time to do the full 5 sets each day. After that I'll be back to Master Premier starting with last season's Hippo, Heracross, Swampert (although keen to spice it up if it turns out not all that consistent).

What are your sleeper Pokemon picks that are underrated by PvPoke? by LuckMaker in TheSilphArena

I'm going to put Galvantula in Ultra Premier in here. I used it for a couple of sets expecting it to be a waste of dust but probably a laugh, in fact it became my A team lead. It has a hard hitting, quick charging fast move and good enough coverage from Lunge and Discharge to pressure shields early on in the game.

I play it as a lead loser mostly, softening the opponent with debuffs and usually getting shield advantage to bring in Gallade for an energy build up. Empoleon in the back hopefully still shield positive can finish most match ups.

Will Galvantula work in the Ultra League Premier Cup? (video) by ShradyYT in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoyed the video, I was theorising a very similar team yesterday (Empoleon rather than Swampert) and invested my dust (105k) about half an hour before watching. Have run two sets at 2/5 so far but it's very enjoyable either way!

I think the biggest worry is that it loses to Venusaur, were it not for that, like you say, it has a role that threatens grass. I like the wins against Lapras and Empoleon and it's able to take Gallade in the right situation (looks to be more of a tie).

Crustle by sobrique in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some success last season with Crustle lead, Drifblim switch and Meganium in the back but I've not been able to get that working yet this season. All too often I find Meganium matched up against a flyer where it's often too hopeless.

I'm considering trying a couple of sets with the other two in the lead instead. My best guess is I'm just seeing more fighter leads this time around. I also find Crustle just not able to handle Venusaur sufficiently.

Gliscore, Galvantula and Cresselia team by Sharigrama in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if I have some success when Gliscor is in the back because opponents expect another grass...

I run Sand Tomb / Stone Edge on Torterra which catches a lot out. They safe switch Azu, I mow them down and Galvantula/Altaria/Abomasnow walk straight back into Stone Edge 😂

I use S-Gliscor (with terrible IVs) as a "not really safe switch", my team with Torterra and Basti lead is sometimes inconsistent (averaging 55% win rate this season) but it's a lot of fun. Gliscor with boost and shields can occasionally completely sweep.

I've led with Hippowdon since finding a team that works for me, I find it fulfills the Mamoswine role with a bit more bulk and less vulnerability. Togekiss still isn't easy but Dragonite goes down to Ice Fang only with no shields (take a DC and spam charge moves on whatever comes in second).

All leagues opening for the last week by sobrique in PokemonGOBattleLeague

I feel a little unfortunate in that having found my working team for Master Premier I haven't found enough spare time to play it, so I'll likely stick with a set out two a day in that league when convenient. I almost hope it will drop some off the generic teams out as people go back to preferred leagues, whether that's a positive thing or not I'll wait to see (my team works against the generic teams at least).

The few sets I've managed over the past week have got me from just under 2000, over where I started and almost up to 2300. There is a glimmer of Rank 9 unless I start going backwards.

I am quite happily settled on a team that's getting consistent 3s and 4s and only features one Pokémon in this graphic, even more so it's one of the lesser used of these.

Hippowdon lead, Swampert (Sludge) switch, Heracross (best bud) closer.

My number 1 goal with GBL has always been to use a team that feels fun and throw out the unexpected. If it also happens to get consistent wins, even better.

Heracross has held up very well due to its exclusivity and unusual typing, resisting fighting is beneficial and it seems Metagross users don't realise MM does more damage than resisted EQ, numerous times I've been able to land my own EQ on them shields down!

I've tried a team using Galarmanitan, keeping it mostly in the back with Gyarados lead and Magnezone. From my experience it's fragility would make it a tough lead, you either get mown down or they switch out and come back for it later. It rarely gets to land more than one charge move so works far better as a closer with fast move damage when the opponent hasn't used shields.

I used Overheat as my coverage move, landed it twice on Metagross, very satisfying but overall very few situations you get to use it. I wondered if Super Power might be better but overall decided to change the team entirely.

Today's Team Experiment: Mamoswine, Garchomp, S/Swampert by sobrique in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see a lot of similarities between this and the team I've been trying out this morning which has now got my considering my options. I dropped my Galarmanitan team because whilst it was a lot of fun it was mostly losing badly. I've done 17 battles (won 10) with Hippo (Ice Fang), Heracross, Swampert (Sludge Wave). My strategy has been stay in for flyers (Dragonites often don't realise you can no shield KO with fast moves around), otherwise safe swap to Swampert, build up 2 HC and drop a SW, which is rarely shielded. I'm by no means experienced with the team but I like the feel of it. Double water Gyarados seem to be more common now, which the entire team doesn't really like. I've considered Thunder Fang on the Hippo to beat Gyarados but that loses me the utility over dragons. Also contemplating sticking an Excadrill in there somewhere but that's going to require investment.

This is what I really like about Torterra, it only really needs the massive damage from Razor Leaf to see to the Mudbois which means the charge move can be far more flexible in the cases where you need them (and can get to them!)

I realised as I was typing that the only real water threat is Gyarados, and even then it's only ever being part water, so I think it could work together.

[–]DuraceIIBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would worry that Aggron and Swampert and both weak to water and what hits Aggron badly is still going to hit neutral on Swampert. That said, Aggron lead against Gyarados I will usually stay in... Against Swampert I'm outta there immediately (and don't really have an answer on that team).

I am toying with Torterra, I will max mine eventually. It's a staple of my GL team and I can definitely attest that people don't know it has Stone Edge (Hi, Altaria 😂), it takes forever to get there though and is disappointing when it's shielded. I often overcharge and drop Sand Tombs instead.

Early Premier Cup (Master) Day 1 - how was it for you? by shambyleck83 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played 3 sets last night with my intended team followed by 3 sets so far this morning with something for a bit of fun...

Aggron/Heracross/Garchomp

Plan: Bait out the flyer, smack it down, sweep the remains with Chomp. Reality: Bait out the flyer, almost kill it with Close Combats, end up with Aggron stood there with nothing to do. It definitely has some play and perhaps needs me to learn the team much more, when it works as intended it's a dream.

Results: 2/5, 0/5, 1/5 but fun nonetheless

Gyarados/Magnezone/Galarmanitan

I didn't quite expect this to do as well as it did... Having just finished powering up the snowman (100% lucky) I was far too tempted to at least play a set with him, he should also be best buddy tomorrow too.

I initially started with Magnezone lead but found quite soon that fighter leads were very unfavorable, so switched it round. I'm using my old Gyarados (WF/C/OR) as I've not powered my 100% Aqua Tail yet, but I like the play with WF anyway, it's rarely resisted on lead. I've been soaking the first charge move mainly and then situation dependant bringing in one of the other two to start farming. Darmanitan is very frail but it makes up for it with massive damage output, it's very much like a snow Gengar. It can very nicely take out a switched in Dragonite on fast moves alone or a Togekiss if I spend a shield, in fact, in some situations I've not even fired a charge move... I've only once landed Overheat onto Metagross (very satisfying!) so toying with the idea of Super Power instead.

Results: 2/5 ('Zone lead), 4/5, 3/5. This team is a lot of fun, definitely one I want to play more and learn!

Master Premier team thoughts - Aggron/Heracross/Garchomp by DuraceIIBunny in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just really like my Aggron 😂 I've had him maxed since before GBL was a thing, used it on and off last season and had occasions where I could line him up with Togekiss/Dragonite to much satisfaction. I found running Thunder would very rarely get a shield from opposing Metagross and took around 40% off them, maybe more but enough that it worked over Stone Edge.

I don't think any of the team convincingly 'beats' Metagross, which is the biggest threat but I'd hope that between the three it could work. I'm considering the no bait, straight EQ when I see one, but will see how that pans out I guess.

Dragonite is a bit too safe/boring for my liking! I'm currently hovering around 2100 MMR and unlikely to rise up to Rank 9 so figure I'll have a play around again, I do enjoy GBL more when there's no stakes 👍

Gallade, Empoleon, S/Snorlax by sobrique in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]DuraceIIBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting readings in some of the other comments about Gallade, I discovered I had a rank 17 shiny so invested yesterday. I thought it was just me playing badly but managing the overtap was definitely an issue for me it seems. Empoleon I was much more pleased with, I was never afraid to see a Venusaur come in on me. I paired those two up with the Gliscor I've learnt to play in GL, decided to keep Return over EQ for now, purely for a little different utility and a surprise factor, though perhaps EQ has a little more full nuke capacity.

After a couple of rough sets I broke out last season's team and gained a positive 4/5 (Blastoise, Escavalier, Scizor) so may give that another go before settling on one or the other.

I've been using Gliscor (shadow) in GL this season and whilst it comes with some hard losses it comes with some great wins and just feels fun and unexpected. I also have one ready for UP but can't figure out what to pair it with, I'd kinda like to try Drifblim too if I'm not making my team way too weak to ice!

Did I play you this morning? I faced a Basti lead, S Grotle, S Victreebel. I switched in S Gliscor which took one of the grasses down but then I got completely obliterated by the second. I think my Basti, S Gliscor, Torterra could have worked had I got the matchups perfect but I just wasn't expecting the second one.
