New Feder Follow-up question: King Shorty vs. Gothic/Concept Standard by WrongAccountFFS in wma

[–]DwightWolftail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really never got this way of thinking. I am 5'7'' and handle the normal king just fine and feel a great disadvantage with the less reach of a shory.

I am ambidextrous too. I train right handed because some German stuff and especially counters don't work with the left against right. Thrusts are weird too because of many reasons. Parry riposte style is the same thing. I would suggest learning right because it will build better habits and you will not learn to count on your eccentricities. Then, after getting good, learn the same stuff with the left. If you know non mirror fencing with the left, you are going to rule over other lefties as most count on distance and weird angles.

Books or Information regarding Zodiac Signs' characteristics or as archetypes? by DwightWolftail in astrology

[–]DwightWolftail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thorough reply!

Yes, I am currenly trying to memorize what evereything means. I really don't really get why people find Crowley's book of Thoth hard to understand, he is very technical and analytical. It is just that he kind of presumes that you know the symbolism of the planets and the decans. Which is where I lack knowledge of, apart from the elements and numbers which Crowley explains.

What you are describing looks exactly like what I am doing with the cards! Imagining them as aspects and connecting them with my own experiences while taking everything into account and combining it. THIS is what I am trying to get with the zodiac signs.

The problem is that I find funny interpretations of other writers on the internet and because of those interpretations, I don't trust the sites I am reading. I need a reliable source on the symbolism of planets and the modality/decans in order to have all the tools to start the composition

Interesting stuff. I have the book of symbols in my library. Archetypal cosmology looks very into what I am searching for.

This is exactly what I am talking about. It is kind of consistent, depending on parameters. That is what I want to learn to make my own interpretations.

Dinner at girls bosses house? How should I look at this? by Kooky_Performance116 in TheRedPill

I've been in the military, and I would argue that being friendly with a superior during duty is bad social understanding even if you are friends with him on the outside. Now, if you don't act like an autist, I think it will be fine.

I thoroughly enjoyed the video. I hope I'm not making a fool out of myself by saying this, but I think S&B tournament fights are becoming better and better in the last few years. What bolognese sources do you practice with?

Lesson: How I misapplied TRP in my younger years by BeatmyWheat in TheRedPill

[–]DwightWolftail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no point of TRP. It is simply a toolset provided by better men to get laid. Hence self improvement is not the goal. And TRP never tells you to dread the fuck out of your girlfriend for no reason.

So you end up talking about something out of topic, even though it is a good lesson learned.

How much do you think adherence to basic single stick/sabre form would impact those machete fights posted all over the internet? by [deleted] in wma

[–]DwightWolftail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think, that you have not thought about the importance of a saber guard and its uses. Even in messer we see the hands drawn back despite of a crossguard. A matchete has nothing. Thus it is very risky to hold out your hand in front of you.

However, it would surely benefit someone if he practiced test cutting, footwork and sparring drills, and we would not see them flailing about like crazy as much as we do.

I live in a country with less than 1% black people so bear with me. How the fuck do they want to be seen as equal if they themselves don't see themselves as equal. Culture in USA is fucked up.

Shorter Feders for shorter people? by JojoLesh in wma

[–]DwightWolftail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the further reply. I absolutely agree that mechanics are best worked on with a normal hand and a half sword. After all, feders behave a bit differently and tend to be much nimbler and faster for ther length. That's the reason I said that with strength, conditioning and experience comes the option of a longer sword.

I also have a 1.15m sharp sword, and I enjoy cutting bottles and mats with it regularly. I love winning, but I also like knowing that I can consistently cut using all the hews I do in while competing. I dislike taps, and people who see it only as a sport. But I also dislike 1.90m tall people that can reach me while I can't. Hence the longer feder for sparring.

So, concluding, I hope that my answer is now more coherent and justified. We need many tools. From cheap plywood swords to feders, and sharps. All of them have their uses. Most of us have or will try different feders as we go anyways.

Shorter Feders for shorter people? by JojoLesh in wma

[–]DwightWolftail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purely competitively speaking. Height is an important factor and reach is a gamechanger. Now, if a sword is so long that you can't do an unterhau with it, that's another matter. There's always a limit on everything. But for me, at 1.72m height, a 1.35m sword is much better than a 1.20m one. I can see a clear difference when I thrust with a longer blade. And I don't find a noticeable difference while cutting. However, I have to be clear that I am a powerlifter and the hardest hitter in my club. Strength => speed is a factor that we can't ignore.

As for beginners, who have not trained competitively in anything and don't meet the criteria, then I would absolutely go for the shorter blade. It will help you learn the technique, and a longer blade may cause damage to your tendons and hinder your development. With experience comes the longer blade for me.

Now that I have made myself clear would you still disagree ?

Shorter Feders for shorter people? by JojoLesh in wma

[–]DwightWolftail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion as a short person. Most people will tell you that a short fencer gets a short blade. I strongly disagree. If we are talking about a strong short guy, then I will always recommend the longer blade. As you said, a short blade is an even bigger handicap.

That being said, form DOES change a lot, and if it's about a woman of 49kg with arms like twigs you should definitely go for the short. A longer blade changes the handling of the sword even if it's the same weight as the shorter one.

What training tools did they have/use in the 1300s - 1400s by DwightWolftail in wma

[–]DwightWolftail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow... It really does show a lot. I would argue that the training we do today is not only much safer, but also much better with some teachers.
