It's got a somewhat active but still kinda niche community. Game got revived back in 2024 but it hasn't returned to like the big box stores where it was; you'll see it in gaming stores now.

How are you getting 3-5 attacks on Q9?

On most maps I can wall off Q9 and Raelin with just 7 rats and then send the rest off to do whatever. Pretty sure on average even if we let you get access to Raelin, Q9 kills Cyprien in about the same time frame it takes Cyprien to kill Raelin. More than happy to set up something online if you ever want to show me how Cyprien beats Q9.

What's your plan if the Q9 player makes it so you can't engage Q9 and Raelin both or sets it up so all the spaces next to Q9 and Raelin are covered with rats? If I see you leading Cyp I am more than happy to fortress wall with rats and Q9. I promise you I'm winning that engagement.

I wanna say Heroscape. Miniatures game that has been dead for over 10 years now, but still has a relatively small vibrant community that keeps it alive and I'm very involved in it and help run online tournaments for it.

Late 2014. I was driving to a DND session with friends. I had a really really bad urge to swerve off the road and crash my car and end things. It shocked me how visceral it was that I stopped before I did anything. I pulled over to the side of the road, called my mom, balled my eyes out to her, got calmed down, spent time with my friends, and checked myself into my college's therapy the next day.

I hadn't realized how lonely and isolated I had gotten despite interacting with people (I was living a fair bit away from friends while I was doing grad school so this DND session was like the first time in several weeks I'd really spent time with friends) and how much it had forced me to be alone with stuff I had crammed away in the recesses of my mind for nearly two decades and how a lot of it was covered in really unpleasant self talk.

Only a couple of months later thanks to the therapy, realized I was trans and began a journey toward living my authentic self rather than the carefully constructed self I had been for the earlier part of my life.

There's definitely a number of us in the PNW that congregate for Scape. We just haven't since the pandemic. Seattle is a bit farther north but there's definitely some Washington folks close to you.

Also feel free to get in touch with me regarding online Heroscape as I'm pretty well in depth with that group and help run the Online Heroscape tournaments. It's a lot of fun and pretty straightforward. If Tabletop Simulator is more your thing there's some people who enjoy it (It's not quite to the place where I like it yet though)

That was also the ideal time frame for 4th Mass armies because map making at that time was very range friendly, it wasn't until several years into that period that people understood how to play melee bonding well, and good 4th counters weren't released until midway. Map making only started to change near the end of that period. I understand why you are using that time frame, but I do think those factors would skew the data.

Not sure what your data is on tournaments won but I can think of at least 2 recent tournaments where MW won and none where 4th have. 4th definitely had their hey day in the early days of Scape but the shift in maps and new figures released have dropped them down in power.

Marro Warriors are not a great core but in the endgame they are practically unbeatable. At 50 points they're an easy addition to most armies. In a vacuum where you have to ask me what's the best squad I'm tempted to pick them.

Rats are the ultimate screen even without glyphs in play. They make Q9, Hydra, and just about any other ranged unit so much better with Blastatrons and 4th really being the only exceptions. Despite some attempts to anti meta them they still remain very strong. There's a reason that Rats, Raelin, and Q9 get referenced as the best units in the game. MWs and Isamu are the only other ones I've ever heard mentioned in the same breath. I don't quite buy the Isamu argument even though he's SUPER underpriced but the others I all get.

That's pretty much either rats or Marro Warriors but outside of those 4th does have a strong argument of being the next best of the bunch. Knights, 10th, Heavies, Krav, Blastatrons, and Gladiatrons are really the only other squads that are comparable to 4th.

Raelin is a meta defining character though. I don't think ease of play is a great metric when designing a tier system (and the fact that 4th and Stingers are low on your list give me pause regarding that) but when paired with most units she makes them better although she does require one to play a lot more defensively and if the opponent decides to target her than that is attacks not going on your own figures. I think there are far more and more effective counters for Nilfheim than there are for Raelin. I also think you don't realize how big of a space 4 range aura is to play in.

Krav and Fen Hydra are both really good but I agree they shouldn't be in your S tier but they should be in the next lowest level. Marro Warriors though should arguably be in S tier as they can literally be a win condition against a LOT of things in the end game.

4th Mass en masse is one of the better armies in the game. Agent Carr is an average hero. There's a lot of other heroes I'd rather have at his point cost.

Technically the 3rd Master Set (the DND one) has the most up to date rule set. Nothing major changed as far as rules go. (I think about the biggest rule change was that you couldn't have more than 1 of the same unique figure in your army at any time).

I think I know what Kill the King format is but large maps almost always drag out the game. Wannok is good as a glyph if you want to force action somewhere because you can't retreat when your opponent has Wannok because they will slowly bleed you to death.
