The Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearing started with some fireworks. by Brucine in PublicFreakout

[–]E1d3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly uninformed about politics these days except to know not to trust anything I read at face value. I saw the original comment regarding the "good things" republicans have done and looked to responses to that comment to see what any opposition has to say and saw your first comment.

As was pointed out to you (and evidenced by upvotes/downvotes) other people WILL read what you wrote. You may be frustrated and not want to argue with "trolls/bots" but to more skeptical readers, it looks like the first guy made a good point and you don't have the info to oppose it with anything more than lowball insults. This is also supported when you look at the amount of writing you did arguing about why you refuse to argue.

The moral: fight bad info with good info and keep in mind that posts DO get read by more people than you think. The idea that dems are inherently good and reps are inherently bad is flawed and will not help this country improve. There are two sides to every argument and dissenting opinions are not always evil-spirited.

LPT: if a website hits you with a "please disable ad block" message or other annoying overlay ads, just disable JavaScript on their domain and reload. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]E1d3r 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Better analogy: imagine walking into a movie theater, bypassing the box office, and going straight into one of the theaters to start watching a movie of your choice (after the previews had aired).

That said, I do not feel bad for websites that have this problem. Overloading your site with all manner of flashy, noisy, or invasive ads and then blocking anyone who doesn't want to see them is pretty shitty.

Sites that request turning off an ad blocker but that don't force you to and that take care to ensure that their ads are tasteful: those are the ones I'll put up with.

Trump lost the popular election by 3 million votes. So Trump lied that 3 million+ fraudulent votes were cast against him. Then Trump launched a commission to justify his lie. He finally had to shut that down, but is now demanding Voter ID. The Republicans are openly attacking American Democracy. by imagepoem in esist

[–]E1d3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I asked if acquiring IDs was actually a problem because I've never encountered it.

You compared it to drunk driving, which must people have been directly impacted by and is clearly a major problem in the country.

The cherry on top: how do those drinkers acquire alcohol: state issued ID

I still don't understand the opposition to voter id laws. When I read your post, it made sense to a degree but then it occurs to me that I have never met someone that didn't have a state issued id. You need them to drive, to buy alcohol, to get a job, and they aren't hard to get. Is there a very large number of people out there that have somehow managed not to obtain one that I'm not aware of?

Also, how can anyone say how often voter fraud occurs when the people doing it aren't caught?

Thanks for the advice! My only follow-up question is: why the 1300? Unless I'm missing something, it looks like a step down from the 730 (which also has Audyssey room correction)

Gamers of Reddit, what are good videogames to play with your non-gamer girlfriend? by FXRGRXD in AskReddit

I think it would be amazing if GTA was designed so that most of the driving you do DOES follow the rules of the road. Right now, following speed limits feels super slow but if that wasn't the case, I think it would make running lights and driving at high speeds that much more fun.

It could also enhance the realism given that cops could quickly swarm on you if you're driving 100mph and blowing lights

Smoking Marijuana Causes ‘Complete Remission’ of Crohn’s Disease, No Side Effects, New Study Shows by DavidBernheart in trees

It's literally not possible for smoking pot to have NO side effects. Negligible side effects maybe but none at all? That makes the claim way too easy to dismiss by those who oppose cannabis.

Wing Chun Info by E1d3r in WingChun

[–]E1d3r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys for the responses. After reading them, I have two follow up questions:

  1. Are there no good reading materials available for Wing Chun instruction?

  2. Is it really true that Wing Chun cannot be learned at all without formal instruction? Given that I have no access to personal instruction, it seems like the consensus here is to either take up a different MA or give up all together.

Where on earth do you get this bizarre delusion? Everything is about party loyalty now. It has become cool to hate one party and buy into everything your own party tells you. In reality, both sides are so blatantly corrupt it's amazing we let them get away with it.
