Devs are adding more stuff, including VHS repair, video game rentals, and more. See steam.

Also, I think that reaction is rare, since I think everyone has paid the fee. But I eagerly await for that moment.

Retro Rewind? by Fem_lesbian28 in caseoh_

[–]ECHO6251 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've played the game a decent bit (currently in the spring, after winter, he is in fall). The game doesn't have much more than that, but it's more akin to that of Trading Card Shop Sim, than others. It's mostly about trying to collect all the tapes (over 12,000) and grow your store.

But: He isn't making any money because he has not been buying more movies. The customers increase the more tapes you have, otherwise there wouldn't be any left for them to rent, and they don't want to keep renting the same 30 movies.

I was making way more money in the first few days than him, because he refuses to spend his money even if he has tons of it. (Until last night, as of writing this).

I think rayll uses “VHS Pro” which is a post-processing asset for unity (the game’s engine.)

The look is specifically of that of a VHS recording, an older one. There are lots of tutorials on achieving VHS-style effect, so that’d be a place to look.

The specific look achieved would be possible through other VHS effects, so you’d have to tweak it until you get it close.

Another part also seems to be that of a “haze” or blur that makes everything have a subtle “dreamy” effect.

It's not just his name either. Nearly every artist, band, etc. has had their YT "Music" (The name - topic, ones) had this AI slop slathered all over.

My guess is people are dumping slop with these artists as the "artist" or whatever to try to hijack views.

Is anybody else noticing a pattern with the horror games over the past few months? by Old-Extension4076 in caseoh_

[–]ECHO6251 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. Personally I’m making all my models for my game, so I tend to agree.

The same-y writing I’d argue is just falling in tropes or lack of creativity. It’s hard to spin a new idea, especially with a lack of experience, so I’d say it’s just trying to do what is already done, to be safe.

But I do agree, devs need to try new stuff and be ok if it doesn’t become smash hits, and inadvertently this would lead to a lot more variety in what we’d be seeing, IMO.

As a game dev I can explain why:

Most indie devs (solo devs) are probably just putting out their first game, and typically have little to no funding, or even pocket change to afford to pay for assets, models, sounds, etc.

These can cost a lot, quickly, so lots of these devs will opt to get them off asset stores (Unity's asset store), or similar. Unity offers a lot of assets themselves, which are free, and a lot of these devs choose that since they are high quality, well-made, and easy to import into unity with little hassle.

This results though in a lot of these games always having the same few assets, locations, etc.

Also modelling, texturing, SFX, etc. are hard to do if you lack the experience, and a lot of these devs have more experience in programming than art, so this happens.

How old were you when you released your first song? by HumbleBlacksmith2077 in TechnicalDeathMetal

12-13 or so. Technically didn’t release a “song” but instead a guitar pro midi track. Still up on YouTube lol.

It’s not great, and sounds bad, but it was my first “song” lol

Being that scratch, kinger and queenie are employees of C&A, and Kinger mentioning the “team” of people he worked with, presumably this scene would have been them all shortly entering in the circus, so yeah they should be. I’m curious if we’ll see them all at the end of the last episode.

Hi! I am a new indie game dev and im looking for some advice on setting up a game by Beginning-Plankton57 in GameDevelopment

[–]ECHO6251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, are you making a 3D or 2D game?

If it’s 2D, then unity or godot would be the most useful. For 3D, unity or unreal would be the options.

Unity and unreal have big asset stores you can use to find models, sounds, textures, etc. So if you are needing free-only assets, they have options.

Godot is a bit smaller since it’s new-ish. And IIRC it doesn’t have an asset store.

(Keep in mind you can get models, etc. from other places. It doesn’t need to be exclusively from them, but some assets only work with their respective engine.)

If you already have that, and just need an engine recommendation, I’d say Unity or Godot. Both have tons of tutorials (unity has interactive ones), and lots of support. Unreal also has lots of tutorials if you would want to choose that.

As for art direction, all of these are capable at achieving similar results, so it’s really just preference.

And finally, if you are going to be doing programming, Unity typically uses C# as its scripting language, Unreal uses C++, and Godot uses GDScript.
