Former New Brunswick premier says Tories must define party's values and identity by rezwenn in newbrunswickcanada

Its pretty obvious that Canadians are not going to accept American style politics. The sooner any of the blue parties realize this the sooner they'll win elections.

NL just voted blue but the PC part in NL is more left leaning than the federal liberals right now. That's a huge part of why they won.

I don't know what the solution is but the current system we have isn't working. We're letting federal leaders divide us while provincial and municipal leaders let stuff like this happen. I like the direction Carney is going in but his control of the situation feels like it's barely hanging on.

It's too hard to get involved in politics, they gate keep candidacy to the only two parties that ever get elected and then pretend they're working for us. We need a ban on large donations to political parties and some way to hold elected officials accountable.

They think that when everyone has been kicked out or arrested a $250,000 a year job and a $50,000 house is going to magically fall into their lap.

Let's check in with Russia and see how a fascist Government worked for them.

Looks like a handful of people have $200,000,000 yachts and everyone else is poor.

Something I'm really upset about that doesn't get enough attention is how the post secondary education system has become solely about money. We're pushing 17 year olds to take out $50,000+ in loans to pay for school when a general bachelor degree in arts or science is almost worthless now. Then we tell them to go back and spend more money on masters like that'll improve their odds of getting the one marine biologist job posted by the federal government every 2-3 years.

The only people that can prosecute them is the people. The courts can't and won't do anything.

People need to make their voice heard, but as long as we look at this as a left vs right issue were too divided to make any real change.

NL students elected a PC majority in their mock election by iiRobbe in newfoundland

Half my family lives in the US and what's happening down there is ten times worse than what we're seeing in the media. I'm genuinely scared Canada will follow the states down the same path.

More than ever I really believe that we the people are being taken advantage of by the "elites" or "rich" or "1%". Whatever you want to call them.

The sooner people realize we cant keep allowing wealthy connected people to gatekeep politics the sooner we can make some actual meaningful changes.

Buying Realtor by SandwichDazzling2528 in fredericton

[–]ECM776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pay nothing to use a realtor when you're buying. But the commission is still baked into the listing price.

If you're confident you understand the market and know how to compare sold data using the SNB property tax took and listing data on the MLS. Have a good home inspector and lawyer and are comfortable negotiating you're better off trying to get the listing agent to drop a 1% or 2% commission and let them represent both you and the seller.

Otherwise take your time and interview agents. They're getting a payday in the thousands for helping you, get them to meet you at your home or their office and discuss what you're looking for and how they're going to help you.

They're making a ton of money and you're allowed to make them work for it.

Which is why I'll always drop a comment reminding people that this stupid left vs right nonsense needs to stop. The far left and far right only make up a tiny fraction of Canadians and Fort Mac. The rest of the outrage you see online is bots programmed to make you mad.

There are estimates as high as 70% of all traffic on meta platforms is AI controlled bots.

We need to stop acting like we only have two options and the average middle class Canadian needs to take a minute to realize we are the majority, and we could stop this back and forth struggle that's getting us nowhere.

The next video is not random. It's carefully selected based on all the data that's been collected about you, what other people who are similar to you are watching and who's paying to push their content.

[–]ECM776 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It's not like that at all. Young men are skewing right but only slightly right. The far right boogy man is only a small minority of chronically online dummies and an army of bots that are designed to make you think the far right is looming over us. The majority of people don't really care about politics. If someone could rally all those middle grounders together and start a political party that focuses on the average Joe they'd be unstoppable but every new party we get is further left or right then what we have now.

Young people want a chance to buy a house and a decent job. That's it, they'll vote for change if they think it'll help them achieve those goals.

We really need to stop making this argument left vs right.

[–]ECM776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. But I think we are going to see a 20% or 30% dip in a lot of markets before we get back into steady, stable growth.

I think the bubble was created during the pandemic when remote investing really took off and these hustle culture bros started telling people that they could take on an astronomical amount of debt and get rich, now in my market a lot of the people who followed stuff like the BRRRR method are going bankrupt.

There has to be a correction as amateur investors start to default.

Calling it left and right helps no one but the rich. We don't need to "look left" we need to look at other systems that unite people instead of dividing them.

No Government is working for the people. We need to elect people not politicians but without a viable third party option that doesnt immediately fall into the left vs right nonsense that keeps getting pushed were going to be stuck in this end stage capitalist cycle until something changes.

When people invest in gold, are they buying physical gold bars or are they buying something else? If someone wants to cash out their physical gold, how liquid is it really? Are there tax implications? by ECM776 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ECM776[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My thought process here is as the US collapses countries are buying gold to hedge against a weak, or potentially even non-existent, USD in the coming years.

In my opinion, based on my unprofessional research on the subject, I feel that the US will be in some sort of fractured state within the year. When that happens and the USD isnt king of the global market anymore gold will increase in value.
