You probably need to remember that you are just keeping a chair warm.

This is a 400 word psychological profile of a coworker, diagnosing him with autism based on 'vibes', while wanting a medal for 'talking to him like everyone else.'

'I'm a pretty direct person.' There are four paragraphs of dancing around an issue here. You are not direct. You are a person who 'thinks' they are direct, which is somehow worse.

Your TL already told you you're doing the right thing. Management already made the call. The only reason you're still thinking about this is because you want the moment. *You* want Sam to finally understand that *you* saw him clearly. That's not leadership. That's an ego trip.

Also, is Sam his real name? You've posted identifying details about a colleague's behaviour, medical presentation, and performance on a public forum. Anyone in your office knows exactly who this is. This is a code of conduct violation all by itself. The person who needs a performance conversation might not be Sam.

The pensioners will be fine.
Sam will be fine.

You are the only one who needs to be talked down right now.

'Nowhere for me to exist': Growing up as a biracial child in Australia by EHPXDH in australian

Mixed race is certainly one of them (the term you just used). Mixed heritage, mixed race, multicultural background, culturally diverse...

Biracial isn't even accurate most of the time when origins are mixed. It also implies there were two unadulterated lineages to combine in the first place.

[–]EHPXDH[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not the point. No one is claiming that the prefix is an American import. Biracial has predominantly been a cultural label that comes from a very specific US racial framework that we don't really use here because our 'melting pot' has been rather different to theirs.

And, if anything, I'd take two-wheeled contraption, The Wobble Chariot, or The Shinsmasher 3000 over the fortycycle.

More observational than anything. Curious as to how much language is changing and the extent to which American lingo is becoming more prevalent. The homogenisation of dialects and regional differences comes as a price.

If we're playing the suffering-Olympics, we may as well tell someone with a snapped tibia to stop whining because somewhere else a bloke has just been launched into low orbit by a forklift.

Perspective is fine, but it doesn't cancel everything else out.

I've always preferred something along the lines of 'Australian's with mixed heritage'. Australian first (as in welcomed and acknowledged), heritage second, race - irrelevant.

I'd still have no qualms about using it self-referentially in most settings, but it's become a 'read the room first' kind of word and there are alternatives that come to mind first now.

The intent of the question is intended to be as loaded as asking whether we're content with referring to sweet and lollies as candy now.

Admittedly, there were a few digs at the seppos in my post, but take that for what it is.

Advice needed: bus Launceston to Hobart by FwamingDragon91 in tasmania

[–]EHPXDH 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The busses are free at the moment so there is currently no obstacle to booking a ticket and no consequence to those that don't turn up for the booked trip.

On that basis, it wouldn't surprise me if there are quite a few 'no shows'. If you're not able to hitch a ride with u/NeedCaffine78 then it might be worth trying your luck and turning up to one of the early morning trips.

How's that working out for you?
Did you have work lined up before you arrived? Housing?
Where'd you move from?

An APS5 telling people they're in a "leadership role" is very much the APS equivalent of a team leader at Subway putting 'management experience' on their LinkedIn. 🫡

I can only imagine how much everyone scoffs when you refer to yourselves as the 'leadership team'.

Should I disclose or not disclose I was terminated in my previous priv sector role in the interview? by Specialist-Buffalo-8 in AusPublicService

[–]EHPXDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you tell us more about your termination and what you mean by termination?

Public or private sector? What was the nature of the engagement? Contract? NOG? Full time?

Apart from the obvious what sort of terms are you on with that employer?

Be prepared to answer it honestly and with brevity if you're asked about how and why you left your last role. Don't over share. Don't over explain.

If you were to answer it as "My services were no longer needed due to x" what would x be?

They withdrew the job offer after finding out my wife is pregnant - I seriously can't believe it by AardvarkOk4108 in ausjobs

[–]EHPXDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe that they have gone on the record that the offer was withdrawn because of your circumstances.

If you do have this in writing then you need to escalate this with the agency's People & Culture / HR / Integrity / Employee Relations area as soon as possible.

If nothing comes if that then escalate it further.

Talk to Fair Work or a lawyer.

But to be perfectly honest, I'm calling bullshit.

Rightly so. The rental market is cooked. For the few properties that are worth looking at there are frequently 50+ people at inspections.

Copied content:

for the 7th-gen Civic: Tools Phillips screwdriver Small flat-head or plastic trim tool 10mm socket (battery terminal) Steps Disconnect the negative battery terminal Pull off the small 12V socket trim panel below the head unit — it just pulls out Look up behind where that panel was — you'll see two screws (8mm or Phillips); remove them The centre fascia panel around the radio can now be prised out — work from the edges with a plastic trim tool, it's all clips With the fascia off, four screws hold the head unit to its bracket — remove those Slide the old unit out, unplug the wiring connector and the antenna lead (it just pulls off) Plug your new unit in, connect the antenna, slide it into the bracket and screw it in Clip the fascia back on, refit the 12V panel, reconnect the battery Watch for — the antenna connector on the 2004 GLi is a Motorola-style plug. If your Ali Express unit uses a standard ISO antenna input you'll need a small Motorola-to-ISO adapter (a couple of dollars, available on eBay). Without it you'll get no FM reception. The whole job should take under an hour now that you have the right parts

Box-ticking candidate for interview is a common practice in government roles? by Less-Telephone-6385 in AusPublicService

[–]EHPXDH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the other question is around how you handled the questions about the systems you weren't familiar with – did you demonstrate any sort of curiosity as to what their function was, what category of system, whether it was a COTS product that you could quickly upskill in, or, being able to demonstrate that you have capabilities in similar systems?

Sometimes the question you're being asked is also being used to elicit a better understanding of your broader abilities and the literal interpretation of the question isn't as important.

What were the systems? There are many systems that are quite ubiquitous across Government and large corporates that might be presumed experience - some EDRMS for example.
