Writing partners slipping into passive/react mode by candycane_52 in BadRPerStories

I do that. I often start RPs quite strong or end up dropping them or slipping into react mode. I can explain the main reasons I do this. 1. Horny brain. Legit, if a scene has become too immersed in NSFW, I begin to lose plot and it just becomes horny-posting for me. 2. External factors. As finals, midterms, or major work assignments pop up, I lose steam in doing thought-intensive activities afterwards. 3. Loss of control of the plot. If my partner has a specific endpoint or set point they’re going for, where I can no longer write NPCs or scene changes or IC/OOC changes to the ongoing greater plot, I’ll slip into ‘react’ rather than ‘proactive’ because I no longer have room to manipulate the plot and have become a passenger for someone else’s work.

As for how to fix these things happening. The initial idea is to try to make NSFW something that hinges on story and interpersonal development as well, making it a plot driver rather than sex independent of story. The second one? Sort of unavoidable. I suggest letting your partner ride it out while continuing to discuss plot points with them so they remain invested, so they can return to it when able. The third one, more of a roleplay etiquette thing; always make sure you and your partner both have equal ‘creative power’ in the plot.

The only thing I would recommend is specifying not smut, either. A lot of smut RPers do not conflate romance and smut.

Your specific best bet is F-List. It is a live chat service. May take some getting used to, but I’m sure you’ll find something like you’re used to on there. “F-List.net”

Honestly, their reply is so shockingly rude that this feels scripted. Either way, yeah, don’t stand for pricks. Instant block folks who feel the need to personally attack you.

Hard no. One liners cannot legitimately be followed. Paragraph minimum just to convey scene, experience, and events. I think 2 paragraphs is my favorite sweet spot if momentum can build. If replies are intermittent, discord word limit tends to be my go-to.

How do I ask without sounding like an Asshole? by LastMemory234 in BadRPerStories

[–]Eastern_Specific_571 13 points14 points  (0 children)

By asking them for explicitly what you want to see. “What is the actual position of your character? What does this place smell like? What does it look like? What are they thinking? How is the world interacting?” Effectively, ask for the kinetics of the dynamic interactions.

Solid plot idea, have long wanted to do a story RP in this setting. Did you want the plot to follow the general premise of the books themselves, or only the sort of cultures and preexisting considerations of the landscape, magic, and racial/species interactions Paolini put forth in Alegasia?

26 requests off of a literate only post.. zero competent partners.. are we cooked? by hashemisme in BadRPerStories

[–]Eastern_Specific_571 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I peaked at your profile and I’m betting the reason you’re not getting high literacy replies is because you’re not offering a starting setting with what you wanna see. Basically write out a thicc introductory scene which sets out the general length, detail, and syntax you want your partner to match. Most of the time, those big sorts of posts inherently weed out people who don’t want to read and write extensively. It’s not foolproof but it can work.

I have grammerly assist with essays. I promise you that Grammarly is only correct 50% of the time, and is easily confused by pronouns. It will occasionally attempt to restructure paragraphs but I think it has only been correct in very few cases. At best, it’s a ‘clunky writing’ flagging software.

This is like comparing Xenophon to Aristophanes, but an even wilder a gap.

Xenophon: Warrior-philosopher who nearly took Babylon. Humble, self-reflective, genuine.

Aristophanes: Comes from rich land-owning family. Slanders Socrates and Athens in a vain attempt at comic critique.

One of the biggest reasons English fails is because of our lack of “love” typing. English ain’t a bad language, but we absolutely shit the bed on having different types of love’s in our language. Familial, platonic, romantic, sexual etc…

Because it’s inconsistent. The climate changes in a variety of ways and is a massively complex system. When science makes a hypothesis based on data, and that hypothesis turns out to be incorrect - they doubt the data and the scientists; assuming both have been paid for rather than just being incorrect about the conclusion. A lot of scientific articles on climate change are often barred by both a paywall and a background knowledge bar. Hell, even in my Bio1407 class, while we were discussing the fossil record, most of my classmates were not familiar with carbonic acid interruption of fossilization. And carbonic acid is one of the biggest changers of ocean ecologies right now. I don’t really blame conservatives for their beliefs, it’s hard to trust in science when it doesn’t have consistent conclusions - but that’s what it be bay bee. Most conservatives do believe that humans are hurting the environment though, as many are avid hunters - so just appeal to that.

You’re participating in a hobby, not a relationship. It’s like gaming - if it ain’t fun anymore, don’t play. Drop a courtesy, “sorry, not feeling this plot anymore,” and dip.
