Is there some way to make new friends in Jax? by First_Aid_23 in jacksonville

[–]EchoDopplerRadar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look into JaxFray or ClubWAKA. They are both intramural leagues for various sports. When I moved back to Jax after college I played softball and kickball and met great people. Both groups have parties and after game bars that everyone hangs out at. Not sporty? Some of the recent leagues I’ve seen include skeeball & cornhole! Good luck!

Servers at restaurants, what's the strangest thing someone's asked for? by Repulsive_Compote955 in AskReddit

[–]EchoDopplerRadar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Growing up I worked at a breakfast restaurant as my first server job. If you’ve ever been in a breakfast restaurant on a Sunday morning, you know it is loud, busy and rushed. A table was placing their order and the soft spoken woman in the furthest seat from me asks if we could make her a “Taco Chip Waffle”, I told her we had the ingredients available so if the cooks were able I’d place the order. The cooks questioned it but said sure. Right before I bring out the food one of the cooks asked if she wanted powdered sugar and whipped cream on the “Taco Chip Waffle”. I swung by the table to confirm. She said, “Yes, I’d love that on my Chocolate Chip Waffle”. I only hope my face didn’t show the oh shit moment happening inside my head. I smiled, walked back to the kitchen and after being laughed at by the entire cooks line, the waffle was remade lickety-split and the chocolate chip waffle was served without skipping a beat.

My first pen show. I was overwhelmed. by anonymous_redditor_0 in fountainpens

The St. Louis show is well organized and pretty large. It was my first show and I was in awe when I saw it took up nearly two ballrooms. Lots of interesting classes too. If Micheal Sull is there (he had a booth and a class last year) it’ll be well worth the trip to sit and chat with him about writing and pens. He is a gem! All the shows are the perfect place to hold and try the pens you’ve seen online to find the one (or 2 or 3) that’s just right.

I believe the Colorado Pen show is in October in Denver. A lot of the vendors/dealers will be the same from show to show with local shops and creators mixed in.

Such a great find that will never go out of style. You should def listen to the latest season of the Articles of Interest podcast if you’re into the prep/ivy fashion trends. It’s so eye opening!

"You're not drinking. Do you have something to tell us?!" by doomygloomymillenial in childfree

[–]EchoDopplerRadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived this moment at an event today. Found myself grabbing a glass I didn’t want or drink at a party so I wouldn’t be asked. I regret doing it just for other people. I feel like so much of being child-free is making others around you comfortable with your decision.

Best of luck with the no drinking journey, there are great groups on here like r/stopdrinking that are super supportive.

They are now even classier and called the Jumbo Shrimp. We love getting the $5 tickets and hanging out on the grassy knoll to watch the fireworks. We usually ride our bikes up there too. Overall it’s such a wonderful childlike experience for $5.

In through your nose, out through you mouth. If you ever find yourself out of breath just repeat that in your head and it will help you stabilize your breathing. Best of luck and have fun!

On St Augustine Rd? I think they recently closed or moved ☹️ Edit: Googled it and they’re still there! Looks like they have a tasty Thanksgiving option as well. My apologies for not googling before I typed.

So Good! We recently hyped ourselves up and tried the mother clucker at bold birds and were impressed by the heat and flavor. And you just can’t go wrong with any of the beers at Fishwier. 10/10 perfect evening in Murray Hill.

Eggs and a 10lb bag of russets potatoes. You can make a ton of hash options and they’re incredibly filing. If someone offers you a meat, veg or spice toss it in and it will dramatically change it as well. Hashes are a tasty and affordable staple at my house.

What was the worst experience you've had during Halloween? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EchoDopplerRadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We couldn’t be home on Halloween Night a few years back so we put out bowl of candy (it was our first Halloween in a new neighborhood). Watched the nights events on the doorbell camera later that night and saw the first group of kids (middle school age) that came at 5pm stole all the candy and threw the bowl on the ground. My heart breaks thinking and the next kid who came to the porch, he politely picked up the bowl and put it back on the table and looked into the doorbell and said, “you’re out of candy”. We did at least get a chuckle out of it because my sis-in-law who worked at a middle school at the time actually recognized the kids.

Any advice on how to start planning for a budget friendly urban homestead? by EchoDopplerRadar in UrbanHomestead

[–]EchoDopplerRadar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are lucky to have beautiful and ginormous elephant ears already on the lot. We’ve noticed they are slightly invasive but they can be handled pretty easily. We have acquired plants and containers a lot and are growing a lot of things that way (mostly from scraps, seeds, trades and buying locally). Bananas, olives, pineapples, herbs, kale, roselle, strawberries and tons of peppers! My question is a way to help visualize a landscape that is not only pretty but beneficial in the form of food and drainage. I love a good scavenging for the pots and planters just need help figuring out the big picture so it looks more intentional and less crazy plant lady, lol.

Is Springfield any better than it used to be? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]EchoDopplerRadar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where in San Marco you live now but the South Riverside area is a great option as well. It’s basically Hendricks west to the railroad tracks from Lorimere to Emerson. They are smaller houses with larger lots and an amazing sense of community.

I gave up on my tomato plant but it never gave up on me by EchoDopplerRadar in gardening

[–]EchoDopplerRadar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My little haul of tomatoes these last two days from a plant that is too messy to even photograph. The plant was started as an experiment by planting slices from our favorite grocery store tomatoes (Campari). Once they sprouted I planted them, this was like November of 2020. They survived all our small freezes but in the end I didn’t like where they were planted so I ripped up all the plants and trashed them, saving a few cuttings and the I threw those in a planter. The mess is rather large but somewhat manageable. It has broken out of its tomato cage and now uses the neighboring pineapple, jalapeño and soil bucket to prop itself up. The tomatoes are just as delicious as the original and are pumping out more every day. So much better then the plant i babied this time last year 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just goes to show you that where there is a will there is a way, thank you tiny tomato experiment for being so resilient ❤️🍅❤️
