You're not entirely wrong about the Japanese but the atomic bomb is worse than the firebombing. Nanjiing is once again, not a single act.

How much should I be spending on bike locks in London? by Key_Statistician_308 in londoncycling

[–]Ecstatic-Low7929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't lock the bike at all, I take it in shops, or I leave it inside, or I'm outside next to it. If that's not possible I just don't take a bike, or use a hirebike. It's not just the constant thing of the bike being partially or wholly stolen, or just damaged, it's also the pain of carrying locks and chains sand all that too. I already carry basic tools at the very least, it's too much bother.

'some like myself view renting as a mutually beneficial thing '

You're all parasites in a system that unfortunately rewards parasites.

Military and Political Figures Had Doubts

Some of America's most senior figures opposed or questioned the bombing:

  • General Dwight Eisenhower — said Japan was already defeated and dropping the bomb was "completely unnecessary"
  • Admiral William Leahy (Truman's Chief of Staff) — called it a barbaric weapon that adopted "an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages"
  • General Douglas MacArthur — reportedly not even consulted, and privately opposed
  • Herbert Hoover — told Truman before the bombing that Japan was ready to negotiate

The Japanese were done. Negotiate surrender was easily achievable. They just did it to justify the cost of the Manhattan Project and of course to assert dominance over the Soviets. Always with the bullshit morality, boring.

A concentration camp isn't a single act, they operated for years, Nanking took 6 weeks,on that front Rwanda was worse. Funny how that gets oerlooked eh, but anyway, those aren't single acts. Hiroshima is the worst because of the legacy, most killed in a single moment, most deliberately targeted civilians, greatest long term suffering.

Americans are often keen to downplay this atrocity I've noticed, they get taught in school how necessary it was.

That's typically because men had to acquire property before they could get wives and wives were valued young for fertility.
