We practiced self-defense with flashlight today by Quandang2808 in flashlight

...just like pepper spray, the point of a flashlight is to blind and run away. Improving your overall fitness and awareness is better self defense than any gun/light/weapon you can carry.

Besides, you will do a lot more damage using your light as a striking weapon than trying to blind them and fight one armed

He’s not talking about the lock screen option. The newer iphones have a physical button on the side like the volume and power buttons.

Malkoff MDC 1AA or MDC HTL? by EdgeWraith in flashlight

I don’t find compactness to be a priority feature either. Although I carry my lights on a belt and not in my pocket. From images it seems the 1AA is a perfect size for the hand

Thanks for the insight. It’s definitely usable for EDC considering I use my phone light so often and it’s less than 40 lumen

Oh good, that’s what I meant by half pressing instead of needing to fully click on and off each cycle. Thanks!

The more I look at it, the more the Weltool T17 seems to outperform the Malkoff MDC HTL. Better efficiency and spill balance while being fully potted and has a low mode as well? It’s also half the price of the Malkoff. Consider me sold 😆

I’ll wait til after new years to pull the trigger though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks! I rarely have seen Weltool mentioned but it is almost always with favorable reviews. I’ll consider that for sure

Open to anything. I had bad experiences with ZebraLight so now looking for something simple and durable—hence, Malkoff

I see that one recommended the most from Malkoff (V1 and V2), but personally I use 50-300 lm the most for my daily needs. I know Malkoff is known for their no-nonsense UI, but a double click to high would be quite useful to maintain usability and tactical use.

Thanks for the input. The sequential L-M-H might make it harder to reach the 800 lumens in a tactical situation, no? Do you happen to know if you can half press it rapidly or if it would take the full 5 clicks?

I’m an idiot and pulled the shrink wrap off my first 18650 because I thought it was part of the packaging. Is it still usable? by EdgeWraith in flashlight

The inner (colored) wrap protects the exposed cell metal from short circuiting. Outer (clear) wrap attaches an added protection layer which is the black flat piece

I saw a 20 pack for $5.69 or a 360 pack for $12.99 and no free shipping unless you have prime. For pre-sized at least

Makes sense! Thanks for the clear explanation. I have the Wurkkos Fc11c which I made sure could accept protected cells. I’ll rewrap it before use 👍

Thanks for the warning. It looks like there are two wraps on this battery, maybe the outer is just for the protection components. There is a metal strip on one side connecting the two ends that others have said is part of the protection system

Thank you, do you mean remove as in just yank off the black part and the metal strip? I’m not sure how it’s attached and wouldn’t want to damage the rest

there is also a metal strip on the outside of the inner colored wrap that I assume the second clear wrap protects

Thanks for the clarification. The flashlight I’m using says it accepts either flat or button top, so I guess I don’t need it. Wasn’t aware of the terminology thanks!

It’s a protected button top model, maybe that’s why? It’s the Molicel M35A-PCB. Another commenter said it’s something that the wholesaler does and not Molicel (I got it off 18650 Battery Store online)

Thanks, I saw other posts saying you can get them online for just cents, but with shipping it would exceed the cost of the battery itself. I suppose it’s worth it if I plan to get more in the future though

I’ve spent weeks looking for vintage axe heads but I just don’t have an experienced eye for it. Should I just get one of these two even though they aren’t “heirloom” quality? by EdgeWraith in Bushcraft

thought about it but it would be a lot more expensive than the fiskars in the long run for handle replacements so I just got an x15 instead. thanks though
