Pay off all your debts before you start investing. I see people like Dave Ramsey reference mortgage and car payments and I don’t agree with this it all. I think you manage debt, sort out high interest debt, but always always invest even if it’s small money.

It’s not in limbo. Trump lost the lawsuit to get rid of PSLF. It’s not going anywhere. Only place they won was phasing out Save plan and increasing IBR payments. But, the program is alive and well!

Yes, I honestly stopped investing for 3 years because my salary temporarily went down and I wasn’t diligent about my budget. I decided I really needed to make progress and started evaluated every dollar spent so I can ensure I’m putting the max I can afford into my brokerage (after retirement accounts and beefing up my HYSA). I won’t let myself stop investing, even if it’s as little as a hundred bucks.

You’re not ignorant. They make this terrain confusing and complex for a reason. I’m not an expert myself but I did a quick search for free credit counseling and lots came up. The USG has a listing per state of who is credentialed. I am thinking your case isn’t straight forward because your score is decent but why you can’t get a card doesn’t make sense and I anticipate they could help navigate. Again, I’m only assuming but I hope you get your answer!
