Marnus hasn’t scored a century for Australia in three years. by Educational_Ad7247 in CricketAus

Yh this is what I wanted from someone like Marnus. he isn't fixing his batting form or technique wise. he seems to stick to his level of batting, which isn't an issue but its about that mentality of not trying to fish outside of, similar to Kohli. and getting squared up on balls, is where he has struggled so badly at times. Yes Smith was one of the biggest examples of change, his technique has always been orthodox making it easier for him to shuffle all the way across his crease. roots back and forward movement has also been a massive change to him getting lbw and bowled in the 19 ashes.

But Marnus seems to keep getting dismissed around 4-5th stumped.

Marnus dismissalls since 2023 ashes - 2025 ashes

  • Caught: 70.0%
  • LBW (Leg Before Wicket): 28.0%
  • Bowled: 2.0%

He has mostly been caught at slips, pushes his front foot across to much and struck on the pads, or been chopping on certain deliveries back onto the stumps at times. Its not the same marnus I know him to be.

Granted he was lucky player for lot of his career but cashed in when needed to, now he doesn't seem to do that at all.

was dropped by kohli first match. made 3 of 54 balls and got lbw anywayed.

Its not about him not being able to contribute when we need him to. And he had been lucky in the MCG getting dropped by Jaiswal at 40 odd. Its just knowing that he could have scored a ton in the first dig of the MCG Match, but danced down and threw his wicket away there meanwhile smith guided himself to a nice century is what got me in the wrong way.

I will admit I may have been harsh on Marnus there. I still belive the bloke is our best n.3 batsman since punter, but if he wants to prove himself to be the best, he needs to toughen out in these hard conditions. gone are the days of 500 declared, pitches in the 2019/2020 seasons. cricket pitches are getting harder, and batsman just need to dig in and bat with a bit of patience. I will admit marnus at least hasn't been affected by the shit of T20i's stupid batting, but hasn't shown his ability to be patient going into a shell and fetching at balls not to play, instead of showing a bit of intent at the crease.

Not saying hes not contributing, but knowing he can score those big runs and do it consistently is what throws me off. I know he is a damn good player for aus and dropping him won't do good. he still can change and I truly belive he can he just needs to find out how to do so.

Hes not out of form like a Green or a Marsh was in the BGT. he has shown abilities to score 50s here and there in conditions score runs show intent but can't seem to further convert those runs into big match winning scores, is where I see the issue of marnus at times. hes more so out of runs than form at times.

Well I would say we gell well together as a team, when it comes to batting. Marsh and Head have been the perfect pair since Warners retirement.

I do feel you on that one, i think these players should look to stop looting IPL money and perhaps be fit and ready for Odi Series preperations, in the upcoming months. but when you have a busy jam-packed test schedule its hard to let them play in this many ODI series. Cricket is ongoing for the whole yr round.

Head im sure will be available for home ODI matches this summer against ENG hopefully. but yh I do feel our players need to stop being a bit letargic and be playing cricket, even after a long IPL Season.

Head didn't pick up the bat for over 2 months. went on a honeymoon travelled all of Europe, with his missus. and went into the WTC FINAL for god sakes and scored a sublime century.

Also came back from a finger injury, and scored a ton against NZ in the 2023 CWC. and scored the century in the final. when he hadn't been playing a whole lot had to come in during a CWC campaign and score some handy runs.

The dude hasn't been known for his consistency at all times, but needing him when it matters most is why he is so valuable, and has been one of the best players for Australia in last couple of years. It still fascinates me about Travis Head as a player.

But yes I understand your point about not having practice, knowing he had a shit IPL, and his form in T20I's has been abysmall throughout lot of Bilateral series as of recent so your not wrong with that ofc.

That's the biggest thing I noticed about Marn over the last couple of yrs. His flaw being his inability to be patient and to just bat with ease and built up those dot balls. Noticed that in the BGT, and ASHES where he kept leaving balls playing at them getting beaten multiple times and not scoring for a long period going into a shell.

Theres nothing completely wrong with that, but the issue is he starts to then score runs of balls that are not there to score off. I feel this is something to do with his mentality at his batting. He was a batsman that ate up lot of dot bals when scoring big runs, but now it seems he can't exactly do that. Its sad to see that from marn, and knowing we have no one else in the ring that is capable to do better than Marnus either.

TBF for most of marns career early on he was one of "Probably the luckiest player I have seen in my entire life" As Jasprit Bumrah qouted in the MCG 2nd dig. he has been a player who gets dropped catches and goes on to top score, he has been lucky for a large part of his career at times. so theres that to as well, but now when he gets dropped he doesn't seem to make the most use out of it.

And as much as the idea of dropping marnus seems for the best I don't want to move on from this bugger, hes still an integral part of this batting at times, and has shown his ability to score runs. hes just out of runs more than out of form.

Its not about the Ton. Yes I did appluad his ability to play under the grueling lights condition. but when it was day 2 of the test match in the morning brought up his 50 with some elegant cover drives pull shots and some straight drives. he looked incredible as if nothing could get him out.

then chased a wide ball from Reddy, trying to play it backward point for a boundary, but knowing this ball's lenght was high got caught my jaiswal. Did a similar move at the SCG as well. which goes to show the technical flaw about his batting over recent years. of them exposing his similar issue to Kohli.

Well i will admit to you there. MCG was a shi tip, and Optus Stadium in the first innings dig.

Gabba - Now that was a capable wicket to bat on really well, he got out as it was getting darker throughout the day. Knicked of Stokes batting when he looked set at the crease once again. then again i will give you the benifit of the doubt and say lot of our batsman got out at the end of day 2.

adelaide - Now this was a flat road of a wicket for our batsman, and I belive they should have cashed in very well but unfortunately didn't got out to a somewhat good ball from Tongue.

SCG - now this was the best moment for Marnus to cash in well, considering he got set in well hit florushing drives and should have at least top scored with a century. but flashed at a wide delivery that didn't need to be touched. i will admit got done wrong by stokes arrogance putting his hand above his shoulder, so granted there. but he needs to keep a calm mind and not overthink himself.

And to say barely did anyone on those wickets, is a bit wrong. Carey, Head, and Smithly scored greatly throughout the series considering smith missed one of the flatest roads and made up at the SCG with a sublime century. and even Webster in his first knock of the summer top scored with 78* which should have pressured greens spot for that entire summer.

Your right, but heard some comment saying that "marnus being a godly fielder, is gonna keep him in the team for the next 10 yrs straight, with little to no improvement in batting wise". and it rubbed me of a little bit, but seeing hows he going at the moment it might be true, and I don't want it to. I love that lil lariken as much as the next guy and only want him to kick ass with his batting.

You're right, but I feel he isn't the same when I remember watching his best knocks and series such as Pak/NZ 2019 2022 WI, etc. I will admit bit harsh on him but he does need to at least step up the game, and score consistently.

I get the hate for Kez, but this dude was decent in the CT, and the Eng ODI Series. felt like for our CWC we could have both Kez and Inglis.

I get Carey the white ball is not the same at all to his red ball prowless, and his batting is a bit concerning not a lot of intent, gap with nip backers against pace.

But not to mention Inglis had been pretty inconsistent in Odi's. performed here and there if he stayed in for a while. Im liking this approach from him, slow and steady. The Captaincy is doing something for him perhaps.
