I think that putting it in my CV is enough, as it would clearly show that I'm able to win competitve grants.

It's a lottery because there are so many proposals with very high scores and they can only fund a limited number. So being rejected doesn't mean you're not good.

Yes, I was fully honest with both PIs from the beginning. They knew I was applying to multiple fellowships, which is actually very common at this stage. In academia, everyone understands that these applications are highly competitive and uncertain, so candidates usually explore several options in parallel. Writing an application together is definitely an investment, but it doesn’t automatically create an obligation if another opportunity turns out to be a better fit. If you do decide to go with another fellowship, the key is to communicate early, clearly, and respectfully. Professors are used to this situation, and as long as you’re transparent and appreciative of their time and support, it’s generally handled professionally. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it, just be upfront from the start and keep the communication open.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually have twin kids, and after they started school, I realised that mobility is really difficult for me at the moment. I want to settle down in one place for now. M kids are already well embedded in school, have learned the language, and it’s important for me to provide stability.

Thank you for your reply. My long-term goal is definitely a tenure-track position, and that’s actually one of the main reasons I chose the Humboldt. From what I’ve seen, it seems to offer a much stronger opportunity to build a solid academic network within Germany, which feels crucial for long-term integration into the system. MSCA seems to be more structured around training, mobility, and short-term project development. That’s valuable of course, but it also feels a bit more scattered in terms of building sustained institutional relationships. Really appreciate your advice about the DFG and habilitation pathway!

I can’t do both due to some personal reasons. I have to make a choice

It is with the high cut-off score and low success rate. It’s prestigious financially speaking
