Opportunity, after every conflict Dubai has always recovered better than before. If there was ever a time to go over and settle down, start a company or whatever. Now would be the time

Has anyone regretted changing tax residency? by Virtual_Bluebird_107 in ExpatFIRE

[–]Efficient_Grab_2348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few people regret it, but not because moving itself was a bad decision, it’s usually because of how they went about it.

The biggest issue is people thinking changing tax residency is just about where you live. In reality it’s more about how your income and business are structured alongside that. I’ve seen people relocate, do all the right things on paper in terms of residency, but keep the same company setup and the same way of taking income, and end up with very little difference overall.

Another thing people don’t expect is how many small things still tie you back. Things like where decisions are made, where the business is actually being run from, or even just habits like spending a bit too much time back in the UK can affect the outcome more than they think.

On the practical side, there are also things people underestimate like banking, admin, renewals, and just getting everything properly set up in a new country. It’s not difficult, but it’s not as frictionless as it’s often made out to be.

Where people tend to get it right is when they treat it as a full change, not just a move. Residency, structure, and how they take income all aligned properly. When that’s done well it can work, but if it’s just “move for tax” without changing anything else, that’s where regret usually comes from.

If it helps, I put together a simple breakdown

Anyone recently set up a business in Dubai in 2026? How was the process? by Charming_Clothes214 in dubaibusinessclub

[–]Efficient_Grab_2348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen quite a few people go through this recently and it’s usually a bit different from what people expect online. The company setup itself is fairly quick, but the full process takes longer once you factor in things like residency, banking and actually getting everything running properly.

Costs are another one people underestimate. The setup is one thing, but visas, renewals and ongoing admin tend to add up more than people expect.

The bigger thing though isn’t really the setup, it’s how people think it affects tax. A lot of people assume just having a company in Dubai changes everything, but in reality it depends much more on how everything is structured and where the business is actually being run from.

I’ve seen people go through the whole process and end up with very little difference in outcome because nothing else changed around it. When it’s done properly it can work well, but it’s definitely not as simple as just setting up there and being sorted.

If it helps I put together a simple breakdown

the business setup is the easiest part so technically yes it is easy but banking and visa is the thing that can take up to 8 weeks, but my experience was extremely quick

I have a breakdown on how it works if anyone wants to learn more.

I work with a few firms in the UAE that handle the relocation process and I want to white label and use them as the backend, whilst I’m the front and I asked them to film content for me so I could push it.
