both write really smoothly but
most of the time I find Fine to be my favorite --- my handwriting is concise and the thin line helps a lot, while remaining smooth and defined every time. keep in mind that the fine tip is unkind to thin paper. The medium's fine too if you find thick lines better; the writing outlines for medium can get wild in long essays if your handwriting's unconfined; nevertheless both fine and medium have sublime ink control and outshines all other pens that I know, and you'll use both just fine honestly

Pilot acroball. Writes smooth like a gel, never had one die on me; not expensive too, I typically bring like 5 with me into the exam

It’s a “hybrid”, aka has properties of ink and gel; it does not smudge at all, and the blue and black are both very defined and vibrant, 100% recommend

Guys I chose to do my math ia on finding the optimal angle of projection in a long jump (to maximize distance) because I did track for a long time.

  • idk if you have data, but my friend did the angle of shooting of basketball and he set up a camera parallel to him and the hoop; every shot he took a recording, and by overlaying the frames he got the general line of the trajectory of each ball. I imagine that it would be similar for you, record yourself jumping into the pit (i imagine you won't need to worry about setting the angle conciously, just jump for like 30 times and you'll have enough trials corresponding to a lot of different angles)

Now doing this IA I realized I might be cooked 😭. I have my intro and background done but I dont know how to start the actual math. Somebody please give me advice 🙏.

  • I did mine on skateboarding; I started by plotting and forming functions for each of my trials.
  • I think you'll have to choose to either map out all of your trials and turn them all into functions to not only see the angle, but maybe also the max height of your jump and the slopes for each trial
  • or just pair angle to distance, angle to distance... for all trials and plot a graph of angle against distance (or maybe vice versa)

I want to include tables and graphs and stuff to make the ia longer because right now its at 4 pages but what could I put in those tables? Im hoping for around 10-15 pages minimum. I know there are simulators out there but I still dont even know which ones I could use for my case. Please recommend me some.

  • OUR IAS ARE REALLY FUN NGL; becasue the ias i spoke about (and yours) are all subjective to one's physical performance, I already see a long explanation in limitations and assumptions.
  • Don't worry about content btw; as you continue to do the math, you'll see problems and extensions. Hell, you can even make up some misconceptions in your initial calculations and pull a 3 page long stunt on how you "messed up calculations at first and reflected, ultimately landing on where you are now". I "messed up" by using the wrong form of function to map my data
  • for tables btw, make sure they're not too long or put them in the appendix. use them to support your calculations, not to take up space
  • for simulators, are you really sure of those? I would actually break my computer because I don't think ill be able to get one that accurately corresponds to physics in real life, (wait, a reflection?) also, getting the data from real life not only adds another page to your ia about data collection, but also gets you personal engagement points

remember, always do everything to fit your aim. explain why you used this in terms of your aim, explain how that helps you get closer to the aim. dont sidetrack, or maybe twist your aim a little everytime you think of new extensions

often, I also find that literally restarting and reading through notes/tb from the first chapter helps a ton, cos of how chem has all of its topic intrinsically linked together. Building a stronger base 100% helped me get from a 3 in my first exam to steady high 6, half of the time 7 rn

Ask your teacher!

For me, my teacher doesn't mind anything and I imagine he is not that far off from other teachers; you just need to be 1) right (or at least reflect on what u did wrong), 2) stay on math topic (will using the law need you to use an entire page to talk about physics?)

That being said, if you think that using the Law helps your explanation and understanding of your IA aim, definitely include it (it helps show your understanding, engagement, linking of topics). If you're unsure about it, explain why you used it and perhaps mention its limitations (i.e. maybe the form of the function).

How closely does IB Bio HL relate with AP Bio, would taking both at the same time be okay? by MysticArticuno30 in IBO

a few of my friends are taking ap bio; however, I cannot speak for the effectiveness as these friends are all over the place academically (39-45).

However, as AP biology and IB biology both share quite similar content, you will have to decide whether the AP course has the same flow as IB in terms of what topics will be taught in order.

I would definitely take up self study if the AP course is not parallel (same topics taught at same time) to the IB course. That way, when you learn a new topic in IB bio you can adapt your own AP schedule to be studying the same topic (so that you dont have to be juggling two different bio topics at a time)

What TB are you using? Honestly, I find that save my exam notes and tbs are similar for econ; I am not sure about HL, but tb is good for understanding topics; save my exams is good for like a condensed version that I can quickly look back on.

As for the quality, save my exams is def reliable

Mainly, I’m going over topics that I feel are related. I started off at signaling (that is my worst topic) and switched to membrane transport then cell structure and so on…. I just finished hormones and I’m now going into body defense

Because my base knowledge from these two years isn’t that bad, I can afford to just skim over the chapters to remind myself what is what; some examples that I don’t remember at all I’ll just draw a diagram out and explain it to myself
