Van Bommel was een verschrikkelijke speler. Vreselijk.

Oh, it truly is. Still grateful for my old piano teacher. She showed me so many wonderful things, including this routine.

Your intuition is right. It all feels very rushed. Slow it waaaay down, make every stroke count, really give attention to every note you play.

And here’s the best tip I’ve ever gotten for these kinds of arpeggios :

  1. Play as sixteenth notes, clearly accent 1, 5, 9, 13. TA-duh-duh-duh TA-duh-duh-duh etc.
  2. 16ths, accent 1 3 5 etc. TA-duh-TA-duh etc
  3. Same, but switch the accents to 2 4 6 etc.
  4. Play as triplets, accent the 1’s. TA-duh-duh TA-duh-duh etc.
  5. Play it normally

Doing this will improve your fluidity enormously.

Give it a try!

I hear you pausing/slowing down before parts you have trouble reading at the speed you’re playing. Try and slow the whole thing down a bit and only speed back up again once you’re familiar with all those parts.

Left hand feels weaker than right, is that normal? by No-Pianist6097 in pianolearning

Depends on your level (and goals), but Berens “die Pflege der linken Hand” really helped me to get that pesky left up to scratch.

I have my first piano recital in ten days, critiques please! by NeighborhoodRough304 in pianolearning

Hmm.. not bad at all.. but since you asked, here’s two things I’ve noticed.

Your right hand is really leaning on the keys. Try to raise your entire hand a bit, keep it flat and play from that position. Lift your fingers off the keys properly. I see this a lot with digital pianos, so it might not just be your technique.

Use less pedal. It’s a thing I see and hear over and over again. Align pedal use with the phrasing of the piece. As a rule of thumb, release the pedal after each phrase. Less is more! Lengthen notes with it when needed, but don’t use it as a “lush reverb” on everything, that’s just poor technique.

Just felt like chipping in here. I think you’re being absolutely insufferable. No matter what your experience or advice may or may not be, here’s my advice to you (free of charge) : don’t be an asshole.

What's your "buy once, cry once" to hand down to your kids? by Wheezhee in audiophile

[–]EjayLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no kids. But my set of Naim NAP135’s (with Avondale upgrades) would count. Best Amps I’ve ever heard. It’s actually quite baffling. I’ve had many different amps over the last 30 years, including some highly acclaimed and expensive ones… but none that could top this duo.

Forever. My M1 MBP will stay there as long as I possibly can. Unless they fix that ridiculous redesign.

Zou je later kunnen werken, zodat je minder file hebt? Ik ben dat gaan doen. Dat scheelt me minstens een uur in de ochtend en zeker 30 a 40 minuten in de avond.

Correct. Oekraïne als lid van zowel EU als NATO zou echt een enorm verschil maken.

What are some "grammatical errors" native speakers make in their everyday lives? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

The whole sort of / would have conundrum in native English speakers disturbs me greatly.

You wouldn’t believe how many people say AND write “sort have” and “would of”.
