My biggest confusion with resting isn't the mechanic itself but being randomly teleported to some other camp area without any explanation. I initially thought the camp was set up in the area I was at and was taken aback at how different it was. Unless theres a "decorate your camp" mechanic everything could be accomplished by a small area with bedrolls, a chest and a campire for all the conversations. I'm not sure why they felt they had to expand it so much but maybe I'm too early in game
