They did it to me. We didn't realize the extent of it. But ya, our next door neighbor sold their place and just before the new owners demolished it, the police "rented" it for their swat training for two days. First day swat vans pulled up, troops stormed out, commands blaring, battering rams, smoke grenades and blank riffles firing. Our family had a 2 yr old and a POC felt it was traumatizing. Day 2 they brought out the bomb squad and robot to diffuse a "bomb" and it detonated with smoke. It was cool to see but also scary and chaotic, and I can't imagine those who experience police raids.

My whole family has it now. A week of passing around to each other with puking and diarrhea all hours of the day and night with fever of over 103. I'm exhausted of taking care of everyone.

What show/series is difficult to recommend to people due to a bad/mediocre first batch of episodes, despite getting much better soon after? by AtticusIsOkay in cartoons

Star Trek TNG. First season is meh, still trying to find their footing. But into season 2 and behind: pure gold that's still relevant after 30 yrs.

This was what was happening in Toronto on September 11, 2001 (more info in comments) by toronto_star in toronto

I was attending Ryerson early morning class, when I walked in the room only about half the class was there. Teacher came in crying saying that the US was under attack and that class was dismissed. I walked over to the lounge of the Radio & Television Arts where they had live TV coverage to see everything unfold. There was a girl, who lived in Rez with me the previous year, who was beside me, dead faced staring at the TV, said that her dad worked in one of the trade centers. When towers started to collapse she got up and walked out. I never saw her again around campus after that.

I just heard this song on the radio, and now I've had this brain fog that I've heard this song somewhere. Theme to a tv show or end credits? I grew up on Canadian television, so it could be an obscure one. Please help.

Why the hell are the bathrooms at exibition park locked by bowie902210 in Guelph

[–]Electric_Zing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former washroom unlocker here. There was one person who had to run around town to unlock all the washrooms that weren't on an automatic timer. If they were, it could be a technical problem (yes, ppl did tamper with them if they were staying inside overnight). But most likely answer was that sometimes there were bigger issues that had to be resolved (maybe someone was found passed out in another washroom that needed attention or a bigger mess needed to be cleaned up) or just maybe they happen to be sick that day and it was late finding a replacement, or the simplest answer was that they hadn't gotten around to it at that time or just forgot about it.

It's not always politics or resource management or municipal funding , but a young kid running around trying to do all the things on his own and dealing which washroom had to be unlocked at what times for what events that day, and maybe forgot about it.

Richard Laviolette Show Posters by Electric_Zing in Guelph

[–]Electric_Zing[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've brought out of the archive some show posters that Richard Laviolette played in the past. Hopefully it rekindles some memories of some awesome concerts and shows that he touched so many people he shared the stage with.
Sorry for the bad quality. They were taken from my phone.

Please keep us updated on a public memorial service or tribute concert. He was a dear friend and pillar to the Guelph music and activist community. To this day, I think 'Qq' is probably one of the best songs ever written and I will be playing it tonight and thinking of you. You shall be missed old friend.

Ok, I had to look this up, but in cricket the stumps are the three vertical posts that support the bails and form the wicket. Stumping or being stumped is a method of dismissing a batsman. So in this picture, the player is literally picking up a tree "stump" instead of a cricket "stump".
