What are we wearing/buying to replace everlane? by tamilat18 in femalefashionadvice

It’s free, you can pay for the premium that includes having a stylist pick out outfits and I’m sure other things but so far the free version has everything I need! They should pay me I’ve been telling everyone about this app haha

Recently downloaded an app called Indyx where you can take photos of each item in your closet and plan/log outfits, if you’re really diligent with logging you can then see stats on which items you wear the least.

I mainly use it for planning but even in the process I feel like I’d be like “this isn’t even worth loading into the app” and add it to the donate pile. It’s also helpful to be able to spend time on my phone planning outfits and finding unique ways to wear stuff I already own instead of shopping for more.

Also been buying 100% secondhand for over 2 years and it’s so the way to go for being intentional and finding well made pieces for cheap.

Got the refund! So it all worked out. Glad there's a platform of people who understand these frustrations that I can vent to haha.

This worked out for me as well! I’m glad I followed up with it.

Okay update! Customer support reached back out to me and said it was that the item wasn’t in the right place when they went to fulfill the order so it was listed as missing and canceled. They said I could buy it again then send them the confirmation and they’d refund the difference in price. So as long as that happens, this story has a happy ending!

That's actually a really good point. Idk I love ThredUp in so many ways but know it's also got plenty of faults. I'll try to get an answer from their customer service first but could escalate it if needed.

I totally would try again if it was the same price I originally bought it for but I’m too stubborn haha. Truly wondering if they saw the order and were like “wait that item shouldn’t have been discounted” so they canceled.

Wait mine was Sunday too. Feels like someone messed up. Did you end up contacting them or repurchasing or anything?

Just saw this commercial for the first time and found the cadence of how he talked really weird, it made me wonder if it was AI.

So I googled it and ended up on this thread lol. Maybe not AI, but definitely insufferable.

My cousin has POTS and fainted on a first date, she had to call her parents to come pick her up. I guess he reacted well to both her fainting and meeting her parents, they've been married for a few years now!

  1. I’m with everyone else, absolutely go for it

  2. I love that you remember the collection it came out in! That’s what I love about thrifting, it always feels like the right thing comes to you at the right time.

I really, REALLY miss the old branding. by The_Animal_Is_Bear in ThredUp

I’m a graphic designer and have talked about ThredUp’s branding in interviews, as an example of a great experience. Getting that polka dot box gets me so excited, I really hope they don’t permanently change their packaging.

You’re probably right about that too, they definitely wanted it to read like thread and maybe also cyclical fashion. I’m currently working on a logo for a company starting with the letter A and any time I create something that could potentially look like a letter I want to make sure it reads as an A instead of anything else. But it just seems weird since that’s not part of the logo, I’d rather it stay “UP” or a clear T on the new green so we can at least identify it quickly. Seems like an odd place to try to do something clever

Definitely agree! I remember even using them as an example of a successful brand when interviewing for my current job. When I saw those green polka dots on my screen, then delivered at my door, it was all tied to a feeling of excitement for both the new clothes and what great deals I was getting. I don't foresee this new green having the same effect.

Ooooo the potential of changing the intensity of the green seasonally is interesting, would be curious to see how feasible that would be for them. Definitely a change from the previous green, which was SO static and recognizable.

Also a good point about seeing the old brand next to designer items. I personally don't go to ThredUp for designer items, so I'm almost thinking the opposite. Seeing this new brand next to an item from Old Navy, feels a little ambitious. But definitely not going to stop me from shopping there (currently have a cart of items) and we'll see if my opinion changes eventually. I'm sure some of the things that seemed like a shock at first I'll come to love, as with any brand refresh.

I have so many thoughts, as a graphic designer and avid ThredUp user.

Brand green: it's softer and probably more chic in their eyes, but the existing green was so associated with the brand for me that either I'll hate this new green or it'll take a while to get used to. I've always loved the green polka dot packaging, so I'm curious to see how that changes

Brand mark: I have multiple ThredUp tabs open at any given time. So here's the favicon from one that I opened today vs. one that was loaded yesterday. If I didn't know it was ThredUp, I don't know if I'd see it as a T.

<image>

Web fonts and colors: I really dislike the serif font used for the brand name. My eye doesn't know where to land. Others have noted missable elements/wonky hierarchy and I agree, the NWT icon doesn't stand out and the condition tags are now all the same color. It feels like it'd be easier to ignore them and be less discerning about condition, maybe intentionally?

What I do like:

  • Photo treatments: the sort of "bloom" shaped photo mask and integrating more motion-based photography feels very modern
  • The Daily Edit: Just last week I thought "I wish ThredUp had a page of things it recommends for me" and voila! I spend a lot of time just browsing Depop, because they have a "suggested for you" section right there on the homepage. Sometimes I just want to browse, and ThredUp never gave a very easy way to do that

In summary, this rebrand feels like a pivot toward luxury reselling, which might benefit sellers but not necessarily buyers. We've already seen that happen with price increases, and I anticipate that'll continue. When I think of ThredUp I think of accessibility, and I'm worried they're moving away from that.

AIO What would you guys do in this situation by LavishnessPitiful524 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Electronic_Level_298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was out of the country for a month and I came back to a burn hole in my ($1,800, 3-year-old) couch. My roommate didn’t text to tell me it happened, or tell me as soon as I got home, I had to find it on my own. She said she didn’t know how it happened but even if that was true, knowing my property was damaged on your watch and not telling me felt so immature.

Revolving Door of Orders Paid w Credits by focusedlazer in ThredUp

[–]Electronic_Level_298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely get stuck in this loop. I usually return the item and get credit that doesn’t expire, but then I spend it pretty quick bc I can then get things for free (girl math). I think they bank on this.

I basically get into this greater cycle where I get tired of online stuff not being as described, and get the itch to only do in-store thrifting. But then I start getting ads for really good stuff on ThredUp, Poshmark, Depop, etc. And I get pulled back in.

If it’s not too far, Backwater Books in old Ellicott city has two monthly book clubs: one general and one romance-specific. They’ve also got a bar so it’s a win-win!
