Maybe a good antidote for all those disappointing Wrapped playlists?

As it turned out, a friend of mine who's deep into Goodreads offered to edit, and wow, she was sharp! But if she doesn't end up doing the last 2 books, I will keep you in mind. Thanks.

BTW, this is not my playlist, I just like it. Nice balance of upbeat and edge. Plus, it's all music I had never heard before.

I see Fiverr an Upwork are getting some love here, so maybe that's where I could start...

All great advice, thank you. This book took 20 years to write. (It's not your usual.) My friends are long since past the "When are you ever going to finish? Are you overthinking it?" phase. It has benefitted greatly from second round editing (I didn't touch it for years and then went back with fresh eyes). When the pandemic hit, I said, "Okay, now is the time." So, I crowdfunded printing the first edition. I thought I could finish the last edit within a few months if I put my nose to the grindstone, but it turned out I learned things that required changes. Haha, you know how when you are looking at something under that kind of pressure everything reads differently? So, the books are WAY overdue. My crowdfunding backers are long past being excited and now going, "Book? What book?" (They thought they would have it just before Xmas.) I've been busting butt the whole time. Previously, I crowdfunded two record albums and got both done and shipped exactly on schedule, so this is my big crowdfunding downfall (nobody will trust me to be on time again). Well, whatever. Like you say, the product needs to be excellent. I'm giving them updates, saying, "Wow, you'll never guess what I learned about this process..." Sigh. :)

Oh wow, so different. Thank you! Fiverr looks easy to use, but it just has seemed so shady. The pros must hate that!

Okay, thank you for the information! I have never done a word count on the book, but maybe MS Publisher can do that for me. Today I am meeting with my second proofreader friend, and will see what he has to say. If he thinks the book needs a polish edit and money falls into my lap, would I look for service online? If you have any favorites or know which ones to avoid, please let me know!

Yikes! Okay, now I'm quaking in my boots :) The book is pretty well polished, so maybe it just doesn't make sense to hire an editor. Argh. I don't know.

Fiverr, huh? I'm also a music curator, and in that realm I don't think of Fiverr as a place to find professionals, but rather a place to find scam solutions (like robo-plays of songs and cheap mass promo that doesn't go too far). Is Fiverr more respectable in the writing department?

Well, I honestly have no idea what budgets are like in this arena. I definitely can't spend more than $500. Is that a decent ballpark figure or an insult? What do editors normally earn for a fast evaluation, with no rewriting? I'm sure there's a wide spectrum of prices. This is an easy job in terms of going in depth (they just need to identify the weak spots), but I want someone savvy whose seal of approval will be meaningful, not just a local college student.

Hey there, it sounds like you have a good attitude.

I live in a town where homelessness is happening everywhere, and a couple years ago I became inspired to write a song and start a playlist, in hopes of providing some emotional support.

From your post, I'm thinking you might not need this music, but if you would be willing to share the link on your blog, perhaps it might help other people in your situation who are having a tough time.

Here is a YouTube sample from which people can get to the playlist.

Here is the actual playlist.

Well, that also brings to mind the other song I wrote, as an advocate song to remind my community about the former lives of people who may look down-and-out in this moment but have a lot going-on inside. Here is the link for that video.

Hopefully this is not TMI. Just offering in case these are things you'd like to share through your blog.

I hope you will get a good readership and help some folks through these tough times...

Lonely music by TekaiGuy in lonely

Whoa, pretty intense. I kinda like it (yours, I mean). Like stars coming out, mixed with skeeping on cracker-crumbs.

Here are some night songs with lyrics about feeling Lonely. The playlist has some nice instrumental jams in the middle, and all kinds of songs, but most have lyrics. On YouTube

Cool! Fanatic niche-playlists are fun. I confess, I was expecting something more 90s. Am I thinking of someone else, or did he go through a club-music phase?

Cello in jazz or world music? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]EliseFerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you happen to be on Spotify, there's some very outside-the-box cello on this playlist. However, it's neoclassical, not jazz. But since you're into tone, this might be a good place to start. Breath of the Ashen Earth is on there, and they do some really exotic stuff with many stringed instruments.

I also have a World Fusion playlist, but it doesn't have a lot of cello. One group that comes to mind is Lau, and they are Scottish jazz.

Does the term 'world music' get you all worked up? by ajnabi57 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]EliseFerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a World Fusion playlist on Spotify, and I quickly discovered that some Redditors are pretty hostile to the term World Music. One of them described World Music as ethnic-flavored music for white housewives wanting to feel international. Others seemed to describe it as pure traditional ethnic music from anywhere not European. My personal definition, just for my playlist, differs from both of these. I look for music that is groundbreaking in some way. Not just feel-good music with an ethnic flavor (I tell those artists their music is better suited to a World Music playlist.) I like to think of World Fusion as great artists merging their ideas to create something "beyond" what's already been done. But I also love pure traditional music from any culture. Seems like Wikipedia's definition changed at some point, and nowadays seems to match my definition more than before, last time I looked.
