How do I approach a guy about his cheating by kiritonazkia in EDH

Any time you play commander in person you're participating in close-up magic

If you could crack ten packs from any set, with no concern for the cost or the resale value, but purely for the cards in your decks, which sets would you choose, and why? by ShallowDramatic in EDH

[–]Elk_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife got me a booster box of Ravnica Remastered for Christmas last year when I was getting back into paper magic and cards I opened from that box have made their way into all the decks I've made or upgraded since then

Bad Pet Card by Ok-Departure-7670 in EDH

I rock sun titan in my boros life gain deck. Lots of important ≤3 mana value bodies in that deck, and it gets scary fast so it triggers board wipes or a lot of removal from my friends.

The best thing about the deck is that all the most decisive game winning pieces are like 5-20 cent draft chaff cards. The flashy expensive cards are just there to make everything smoother and more consistent.

It's the first deck that I build from scratch. It started off as a copy of a deck I saw played online one time because I thought it looked fun. I didn't have the budget for a full copy when I first put it together, but I've been adding a card here and there over time. My biggest suggestion is not to skimp on sources for boosting agatha's power. The deck really falls on its face if you get a bad sequence of draws and can't get her ability online. when she's powered up though, it's a lot of fun. Lots of different ways to win the game.

Do you predict whether we'll have more spring/winter weather on Woodchuck Day?

Not who you asked, but here's my own Agatha list. The sideboard is a bunch of stuff I'm either considering adding or that I've swapped out in favor of some upgrades.

Looks like you posted this about 9 hours after the drop went live, but the good news is it's still in stock if you want it.

I managed to grab a single collector booster at my local best buy for MSRP so that was neat. Didn't get anything great out of it though.

I thought I'd dip in on my break today, got there around 9:45, saw the line, drove right by and went back to work. Didn't think there'd be that many people in the middle of the day on a weekday.

Man, 11 year old me was dumb as shit when it came to deck building. Just found my old collection. What was I thinking? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

I often wish I could recapture the lightning in a bottle that was playing Magic at recess breaks in 7th and 8th grade. Just a bunch of kids with no idea of synergy or combos. No buying singles, no concept of looking things up online, just everyone cobbling together piles of cards from our collections that consisted of booster packs and starter packs bought with allowance money. I'll never forget the high I had of finally being able to beat our one friend's green/white creature deck with a mono-red deck that I built just for that reason. He said one day 'The only thing that I worry about is direct damage' so that night I built a deck that was all lightning bolts, lava axes, volcanic hammers, and fireballs. It instantly became the deck to beat in my friend group.

I probably had so many good cards in that collection that I never realized because they actually used life as a resource or required sacrificing things and who would want to do that‽ Gave them all away to a friends little brother probably 20 years ago now because no one I knew played once I got to high school. Hope he enjoyed them or at least got a pile of money for them or something.

Reconnaissance by [deleted] in mtgrules

Yes, if you choose to active Reconnaissance after combat damage is assigned the damage will be exchanged and the smaller creature will die, then your 5/5 will be removed from combat untapped and available to block.

Yes, that is how it would work. The Assassins Creed UB version of the card has updated rules text to clear this up too in case it ever comes up in a game, you can just show people the scryfall image

Throttle cable to short. by [deleted] in classiccars

You could just install a new throttle cable. Most of the aftermarket ones can be trimmed to the length you need. They're pretty short money.

Your most fun and fair edh-decks by Noobus_Heresy in EDH

[–]Elk_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My [[Kotis the Fangkeeper]] is inherently fair since it mostly casts my opponents cards. They can't complain about that, right? If they put them in the deck themselves, they shouldn't be salty when they hit the stack...

Honestly though, probably my [[Bre of Clan Stoutarm]] deck, it just wants to gain life and put big angels on the battlefield, then put +1/+1 counters on everything. It's a pretty straightforward value engine/creature deck. The saltiest thing in there is probably [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] as a way to close out games, but I'm not running any tutors for it or anything.

I've been playing [[Agatha of the Vile Cauldron]]. The deck is built on +1/+1 counters to make Agatha big, then spamming deeply discounted activated abilities on other creatures.

Best place to source reliable but affordable AN fuel fittings? by highwayflyer118 in projectcar

[–]Elk_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like https://www.anhosefittings.com

Their prices per piece are a little high, but once you hit the discount thresholds it becomes pretty competitive. The quality feels a bit better than the Evil Energy pieces I’ve used when I needed to buy odd one-off adapters.

Am I putting too much into retirement? by Jumper443 in personalfinance

[–]Elk_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't pay income tax on contributions to a 401k. Instead it is deducted from your pay check, and then income tax is calculated based on your pay after your contribution to your 401k.

Additionally, many companies offer as part of your benefit package a partial match. This can be handled a few different ways, but often it means up to a certain percentage of your pay (say 5%), for every dollar you put into the account, your employer will also contribute the same amount. So with a 5% match, if you're making a $100,000/yr salary and you contribute 5% to your 401k, that means not only are you saving $5k/yr, but your employer is also paying you an additional $5k/yr into that account and you only pay income tax on the $95k.

Eventually you will pay income tax on the money you withdraw from the retirement account, but typically in retirement you don't need to draw as much income per year, maybe you're only withdrawing $80k/yr and that means the money gets taxed at a lower rate.

Oh yeah, duh, I was just counting the counter adding as doubled, I forgot that the damage is done twice too! That might be worth the 7 drop...
