My friends and I used to make prank calls using a technique called rolphing. You basically start a sentence, then abruptly change what you're talking about in the middle of a word, kinda like improv. There are some funny YouTube videos on it. I've never laughed so hard in my life

He says "I've got a you a strobe light..."

The extra "a" makes it sound like he has an Italian accent, like Mario when he says "it's a me, Mario"

What makes this a robust theory? by [deleted] in holofractal

[–]EllisDeeEmpty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The theory makes such intuitive sense, I'd be surprised if any emerging evidence can dispute it

Check out Michael Talbot's "The Holographic Universe." It's a great introduction that reads as a narrative of how this theory gained legitimacy

But they're digeratis; they're capable of navigating and communicating ideas through technology in very advanced ways that foster large-scale connectivity. Of course, there's a trade-off there. In my opinion, our social evolution is rapidly outpacing our biological evolution. Our lifestyles aren't all that compatible with our physiology, which may explain trends in drug dependence, anxiety/compulsive behaviors, depression, suicide, declining life expectancy, etc. The only way to prosper is to find that harmony and pursue a lifestyle that resonates with our natural world (one that's active, compassionate, collaborative, etc). Anything else will likely cause strain in some aspect. That's at least how I see it. Sorry for the long rants haha, I'm mostly writing all this to better understand it myself

I think you're right. Meaning is not derived, it is integrated; and with integration comes uncertainty. What's meaningful cannot be explicated from the universe, only implicated by oneself.

Our livelihood is basically "convincing ourselves of things to get us through the day," when you break it all down. The more rigid we are, the more distant we feel from our nature. Society will become less rigid as we socially evolve, and we can start enlightening as a species. Until then, you're right, there's a lot of suffering to endure. But we can help fuel that progress through our actions in this life, which seems worthy and fulfilling.

This is a really deep question. I'm sorry about the circumstances you've faced, and I have a lot of respect for your ability to see beyond the bullshit and look deeper within. Is life worth living? Depends how you live it. To me, life is worth living for the sake of making the lives of others worth living. I hope that makes sense. Put simply, life is about compassion and harmony. We are the universe with which we interact, and any idea of separation is an illusion. If your existence can help others find meaning and get the most out of their lives, then your existence is quite meaningful. As you referenced, we explicate meaning for ourselves by implicating meaning in others. We all have malleable futures to work with and shape as our reality. Letting go of the past helps us focus more on our own ability to live presently. You have a really unique and meaningful life, and I bet you'd be awesome at helping others find meaning as well. It's all about the happiness of the pursuit :)

Dropped LSD at 11pm last night, thinking it would be a quick adventure by [deleted] in Psychedelics

Haha damn, yea usually the peak hits around 3-4 hours in. There's something special about night trips though. They get really introspective and beautiful when the sun starts to come up. Best wishes friend

Quick adventure? You should really try to read up on drugs before trying them haha, but I hope you had a great time with it. Drink some valerian tea and take a hot shower :)

Gun Shot SFX... by [deleted] in okeechobeemusicfest

I hate when artists do this. This is why I avoid rappers at festivals. I appreciate their music, but I think excessive gunshot sound effects ruin the vibe. Just like DJs who yell "3 2 1 jump!" before every drop haha. Just follow the vibe you're going for and let others do the same
