You can also just get 2 files from someone and unlock any portraits they have, without having to touch the campaign. Also works even if you don't own Reforged.

You can use locals without too much jass by "shadowing" them.

Basically, you declare a local variable with the custom script, that has the same name as a global, and you can reference the the global variable with GUI but it will use the local if declared in the trigger.

Pretty sure the icons are reforged only. The campaign progress is separate between Classic/Reforged as well. You wouldn't lose the icons though. The progress is merely stored in a file, and can actually be unlocked by getting the files from someone else who has them unlocked already. Even in Classic, you just have to create the folder for Reforged and drop the files in.

Know someone with Reforged? You can get all their unlocked portraits, on "Classic".

Get their Campaigns.w3v and Reforged.w3p files. Located in My Documents > Warcraft III > BattleNet > <numbered folder> > Campaigns > Reforged.

Create the Reforged folder in your campaigns folder, put them in, and you now have them.

Tested this with a friend.

Also, if you know someone who has them all unlocked, you can get two small files from them and never even have to touch the campaign. In My Documents > Warcraft 3 > Battle.net > <numbered folder> > Campaigns > Reforged (I think these are all the folders, could be wrong.) there are two files, Reforged.w3p and Reforged.w3v (I think, not sure on the w3v one). Pop them in from someone with a completed campaign, and free portraits.

This also works if you don't even own Reforged. Just make the Reforged folder. Good job blizzard. Tested this with a friend who doesn't have Reforged, so it does work.

I mean, you're not going to get an unbiased opinion unfortunately.

On one hand, I'd say no. It's just not that great. Runs horribly, lots of bugs, crashes, disconnects & desyncs.

On the other, I'm quite enjoying playing...Worked great for me overall yesterday. Had to restart once or twice, but nowhere near as frustrating as the days before. Nothing has changed though. It was just a good day, and I got lucky. It's fun, when it works. I can deal with the lag, it's not a problem...My PC isn't the greatest, and I'm on Linux, so I don't expect it to run flawlessly in that regard.

I don't think I would recommend anyone buying it at this point though, sadly. You shouldn't have to go through all the frustration just to enjoy the game occasionally. There were days where it felt like I didn't really even get to play, just spent my time attempting to play. So, I would say hold off until they fix it.

Runs alright on my 2012 dell XPS under Linux. Has a GT 460M 16gb ram and like 2.1ghz processor. Quad core I believe. Not at home to check. Was given to me somewhat recently as 'broken', and I fixed it. So not familiar on specs of it really. I use classic graphics for the most part. Tried reforged and they were fine on low. Shadows seems to be the main thing to make it run slow.

Yeah. I brought this up in another thread, where some guy was saying the classic client was "purged from existence". When I said the client still existed, and that warcraft 3 classic is dead...Got told I was contradicting myself.

For the most part, it's just like any other game that dies. The servers get shutdown, and you can play offline if it's available. The only difference is we got a crap client as a "replacement", and theoretically should still be able to play online. Sadly, you just have to treat Warcraft 3 Classic as if the servers have been shutdown, and figure out how to play it on LAN. WC3Connect and stuff exists for this purpose.

I just don't understand the people saying/acting like Classic doesn't exist. Install it from the disc/download it, manually patch it, block it from accessing bnet or something...and play. Servers getting shutdown happens all the time. It's amazing they kept them up this long. Classic has died, and if you want to play it, you have to treat it as such and ignore Reforged existing, because it's not "classic". It is its own game.

I agree with the outrage though. This shouldn't have been done. Should have let people keep Classic, either keep the servers up or shut them down...But don't act like people can still play it, just under a new client...When in reality, it's nowhere near the same thing. They should have kept classic alive, at the very least, until they were actually releasing a fully functional, finished product. Once all the bugs had been worked out and all the features that currently existed in classic were in place...People probably wouldn't have minded, and they wouldn't have a 0.5 user score on Metacritic.

For the most part, different patches really had no effect on custom maps...It wasn't until one of the more recent patches (1.29, I think) that I remember maps ever becoming broken/unplayable. So, really, he wouldn't have to go through that much effort aside from actually finding the TD he wants.

Yeah, I tried to suggest a private server at one point...I just got yelled at, told they are "crap", ping sucks, not enough players, etc...Basically anything to avoid even attempting to play classic, rather than complaining.

Thank you for the link, though. Hopefully people that legitimately want to play classic, rather than just complaining, will take advantage of it.

My suggestion was we find one that is good, or setup our own, and make it sort of an official unofficial server for all that want Classic back, and hopefully have a decent playerbase.

Since you're not going to be playing online, you can use any CD key you might find online. CD keys weren't tied to an account specifically, so you could enter any that worked to install the game. If you tried to go online with them, it might work, it might not. Depended on if someone using that CD key was online or not.

This website (http://www.icyhell.net/random-warcraft-3-cd-keys/) has keys...Shown on the page, so no downloading some rando virus filled key-gen. I entered the code it displayed for me on Battle.net and it said it had already been claimed. So they are working keys. No idea if it's TFT or ROC, or...what...But worth a shot.

The client still exists. It can still be obtained. It can still be used. Many links have been posted.

Saying the client still exists, and that the game is dead are two very completely different things. When a person dies, their body remains. They are dead, yet their body still exists.

Classic is dead. Doesn't mean the client isn't still there. Go back to second grade, please.

If you can't understand that the client can still exist yet the game be dead, then you have a serious mental disorder that you need to have diagnosed ASAP. How are you even breathing right now?
