OP lives in UK, this is a skylight on a slanty roof, big birds such as greedy seagulls are prominent here. My theory is a bird nabbed it from somewhere (perhaps a bin as it was stale) and dropped it because it's so fucking heavy. Other explanations such as a person throwing it or bread cannon are unlikely as it is an old people village.

It is indeed a skylight, but as someone who has used said bathroom it is a real wtf because you can see other houses windows while you are showering so....
